The Greenstone Digital Library Software was developed by the New Zealand Digital Library Project to provide a way to build and distribute digital library collections by making information available online or through CD-ROM. It is open-source software that is distributed in cooperation with UNESCO and the Human Info NGO to empower users like libraries and universities to create their own digital collections. Greenstone allows users to gather documents, describe them with metadata, design collections, and build and preview the collections which can then be shared online or via CD-ROM.
