Green tea
GREEN TEA- Camelia sinesis - minimal oxidation
during processing
• BMI and WHR
• BMI or body mass index is the measure of body
fat in relation to your weight.
• BMI = Body wt in kg/ Height in m2
• Normal Range 18.5-24.9 kg/m2
• WHR or Waist Hip Ratio is the ratio of
circumference of waist to that of hip.
• Male 0.95 Female 0.82

Increase fat burning &
improve physical
perfomance.
Contains antioxidants.
Used for Crohn’s
disease,Parkinsonism.
diseases of heart &blood
vessels,diabetes,low blood
pressure.
As candy is used for gum
diseases.
as ointment for genital warts.
• DISADVANTAGES
-
• The side effects of green
tea is due to the presence
of caffine.
Objective
• To study the beneficial effect of green tea on BMI
& WHR in healthy volunteers.
Method
• 2013 regular students were divided into 5 groups.
• This was a prospective study involving 20
volunteers of age group 20-23 for a period of 3
months.
• Inclusion criteria: BMI >23 both male and female
• Exclusion criteria: BMI<23
• Informed consent was taken.
Before starting the project clearance obtained from
IEC.
• Basic parameters like weight,BMI,abdominal
girth and waist and hip circumference were taken.
Method
• 200 ml of freshly prepared green tea (Lipton lemon &
honey) in hot water added with 5 g sugar was given
everyday for 3 months at stipulated time.
• Regular register was kept where volunteers used to sign
after having green tea and during holidays sachets were
given to take it home.
• Measurements were repeated at the end of 1,2 and 3rd
months.
• Initially 20 volunteers were selected but only 13 were only
regular and were selected.
• At the end of project data was analysed statistically using
t test.
Method
• Informed consent- based on principle that
competent individuals are entitled to choose freely
whether to participate in research or not.
• It protects the individuals freedom of choice and
respects individuals autonomy.

Discussion
Significant reduction in weight as well as BMI was
observed in volunteers taking green tea even
though there was no change in regular diet.
Unsignificant reduction in abdomen girth and
WHR.
Conclusion
• It was observed that there has been significant
reduction in weight and BMI in all the 13 healthy
volunteers who took greentea for 3 months.
• Experiment on green tea has yielded a good
outcome and the result would have further
enhanced if we continued the project.

Green tea

  • 1. Beneficial effect of green tea in volunteers with B.M.I > 23 kg/m2 Presented by:Shani Group members, Shibil,Sumayyul,Swetha,Thahseen,Tijin,Vidhu,Vishnu, Bipin,Asif,Javad,Nadeem.
  • 2. Green tea GREEN TEA- Camelia sinesis - minimal oxidation during processing
  • 3. • BMI and WHR • BMI or body mass index is the measure of body fat in relation to your weight. • BMI = Body wt in kg/ Height in m2 • Normal Range 18.5-24.9 kg/m2 • WHR or Waist Hip Ratio is the ratio of circumference of waist to that of hip. • Male 0.95 Female 0.82
  • 4. Green tea • ADVANTAGES – Improve health,brain function. Increase fat burning & improve physical perfomance. Contains antioxidants. Used for Crohn’s disease,Parkinsonism. diseases of heart &blood vessels,diabetes,low blood pressure. As candy is used for gum diseases. as ointment for genital warts. • DISADVANTAGES - • The side effects of green tea is due to the presence of caffine.
  • 5. Objective • To study the beneficial effect of green tea on BMI & WHR in healthy volunteers.
  • 6. Method • 2013 regular students were divided into 5 groups. • This was a prospective study involving 20 volunteers of age group 20-23 for a period of 3 months. • Inclusion criteria: BMI >23 both male and female • Exclusion criteria: BMI<23 • Informed consent was taken. Before starting the project clearance obtained from IEC. • Basic parameters like weight,BMI,abdominal girth and waist and hip circumference were taken.

Method • 200 ml of freshly prepared green tea (Lipton lemon & honey) in hot water added with 5 g sugar was given everyday for 3 months at stipulated time. • Regular register was kept where volunteers used to sign after having green tea and during holidays sachets were given to take it home. • Measurements were repeated at the end of 1,2 and 3rd months. • Initially 20 volunteers were selected but only 13 were only regular and were selected. • At the end of project data was analysed statistically using t test.
  • 9. Method • Informed consent- based on principle that competent individuals are entitled to choose freely whether to participate in research or not. • It protects the individuals freedom of choice and respects individuals autonomy.

  • 11. Method • Students “t-test” :- • Introduced by William Sealy Gosset. Students ‘t’test Unpaired ‘t’ test (Compare mean of two independent sample) Paired ‘t’test (Compare mean of two dependent sample)

  • 23. Discussion Significant reduction in weight as well as BMI was observed in volunteers taking green tea even though there was no change in regular diet. Unsignificant reduction in abdomen girth and WHR.
  • 24. Conclusion • It was observed that there has been significant reduction in weight and BMI in all the 13 healthy volunteers who took greentea for 3 months. • Experiment on green tea has yielded a good outcome and the result would have further enhanced if we continued the project.
