Graphs final
1. Gender
For this question I asked students from my media class. As shown on the graph most of
them are boys meaning we should aim our opening sequence at mainly a male
audience, this can be done by using male character which they can identify with (uses
and gratification theory). We can also target a male teenage audience by using a
female character who they will find as an object of desire (Laura Mulvey).
Age
This graph shows that most people that filled out the
questionnaire were between the ages of 15-17. This shows that
we need to make sure we target a teenage target audience as
they will be more attracted to watch our comedy/chick flick
film. This is because it will offer them entertainment (uses and
gratification theory) and because they will be able to identify
with the teenage characters (uses and gratification theory).
2. Favourite Film
This graph shows that the most popular film was ‘’white chicks’’. This means in order for
our opening sequence to be successful we should incorporate characters who will offer
entertainment to our teenage target audience (uses and gratification theory). We can do
this by using a stereotypically geeky character that always speaks formally and wears glasses
to offer entertainment to the teenage target audience (uses and gratification theory).
Most important character
This graph shows that the popular girl was rated the most important character to have
as a protagonist, this is because the teenage target audience of girls will want to
identify with her popularity (uses and gratification theory).
3. Music
This graph shows that our teenage target audience think pop music would best suit our
opening sequence, meaning we should incorporate it into our sequence, to attract our
teenage target audience.
Costume/ Props
This graph shows the most popular costume is uniform, this shows that our
opening sequence would appeal more to a teenage target audience if we
incorporate it, as a teenage target audience can identify with the characters
wearing it (uses and gratification theory).
4. Setting
The most popular setting for our opening sequence is the classroom, meaning we
should base more of our narrative in this location, as the teenage target audience
will be able to identify with the setting (uses and gratification theory).
Angle/ Camera Shot
This graph shows that all the camera angles and shots were seen are important by the
teenage target audience; this means we should aim to include all of them in order to
attract a mass teenage target audience.
5. Favourite Chick-flick
This graph shows most people questioned chose mean girls as their favourite
chick flick, this means we should use similar stereotypical characters for our
teenage target audience to identify with (uses and gratification theory). This
character’s should include prop 8 stock characters, such as the popular
character, the jock, the geek etc.
6. Opening titles
This graph shows that our teenage target audience prefer the opening title
sequence to be gradual as it ensures that they will not get bored, and that they will
instead be entertained (uses and gratification theory).
Address
This graph shows that most of our teenage target audience prefer no direct
address, meaning we should not incorporate it as it would attract a teenage
target audience more if we do not directly address them.
