1. GO TO GATZ: Creating a LinkedIn Profile
A personal LinkedIn profile enables people to connect and reconnect with you, represents your career
accomplishments and opens the door to new opportunities and helps you control your professional
identity online.
Basic Information
• Enter your first and last name to be displayed as “First Last”
• Your headline is your current job title
• Enter your place of residence, location and job function industry
• Upload a professional head shot
Position
• Enter company name and select it from the dropdown menu
• Enter your current job title, your start date and check the ‘I currently work here’ box;
add a description of job duties and responsibilities
• Add past positions and education experience
• Recommendations can be seen as illegitimate if they come from friends or relatives; ask
for recommendations from colleagues, teachers, or managers instead
Additional Information
• You are able to add up the three websites on your profile and the first website should
be your current company homepage; the other two can also be work related (company
blog, recruiting site, etc.) or personal (personal blog, links to other social networking
sites); instead of leaving each title as “My Website”, you should change them to the
actual title of each of your links
• Add any interests, groups and associations you belong to and honors and awards
• Adding your Twitter account will automatically post your tweets as your LinkedIn
status
• Make it easier for people to find you by editing your public profile URL to appear as
http://linkedin.com/in/yourfullname
• Your summary should be a brief paragraph summarizing your current work experience,
especially any work experience that is relevant to your ideal job; feel free to include any
unique abilities and differentiators such as awards, honors or certifications
Privacy
• You are able to edit your public profile settings to show only certain details of your
profile to connections
