Ram
Ram (Random access memory) is used to help a consoles
processor work faster because any Byte can be accessed
randomly.
CPU
CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the brain of the computer and
the most important part of any computing system.
Graphics Processor
The graphics processor (GPU) is used to generate the 3D shapes
on screen, a task which otherwise would but great strain on
the CPU
Video Display/Output
The video display is used to show information in visual form,
in a games console this would be used to show the video game
on the Console, PC or other screens.
Sound/Audio
Recorded or produced sound effects used to provide information
in sound form. In consoles this would be played through
speakers either built into or outside of the console.
Storage media
Used to record information in almost any form. Its typically
used to describe devices like magnetic tape or flash memory.
Software Kernel
A module of an operating system, it loads before anything else
on the operating system and is generally used for low-level
tasks such as disk management.
HCI
HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) is used to allow a person to
interact with a computer, usually using an interface such as a
GUI.

2. LAN
LAN (Local-area Network) is a network of PCs that spans a very
small area, although it can be used long distance when
connected to a telephone or radio waves. When used like this
it is called WAN instead.
GPRS
GPRS (General packet radio service) is a very fast wireless
service that supports many bandwidths making it very
effective.
WAP
Wireless application protocol allows information to be
transferred instantly between some wireless devices such as
smart phones.
Cache
A type of high speed storage device, some examples of a cache
include disk caching and memory caching.
MPC
MPC is an abbreviation for Multimedia personal computer and is
used as a standard for hardware and software. There are 3
types of MPC; MPC1, MPC2 and MPC3, The latter being the most
advanced.
2D V 3D graphics processing
2D graphic processors are generally cheaper and slower than a
3D graphics processor, and a 3D processor is usually faster
and more expensive than the 2D. Most games consoles and gaming
computers use a 3D processor, depending on the generation and
console
Subscription TV
Some TV channels on analogue, cable or satellite require a
subscription and typically payment to be viewed, this is true
for some HD channels, Sky channels and Movie channels.
ETV
Educational Television (ETV) channels are channels that
broadcast primarily educational programs. Some groups of

study at home from.
API
Application Programming Interface (API) specifies how some
different pieces of software should interact with each other.
It is also used to ease the load on some kinds of GUI.
Interpreted programming language for games
Interpreted programming language is a kind of programming that
requires a piece of software called an Interpreter. It uses a
text file to convert the coding into a set of commands.
Compiled programming Language for Games
A form of programming that uses a compiler to turn source code
into machine code instead of using an interpreter, although it
can pass on the coding it compiles to an interpreter to
execute it
Object-Oriented Programming
A type of programming in which the programme not only defines
the data type, but also the functions that can be applied to
the structure
Scripting Languages for Games
A programming type that supports scripting, which is read as a
runtime by the computer. Scripts can also be read as a HTML
which means it can be embedded into a webpage or
advertisements.
