Trhe glossary
1. RAM
Random-access memory is a form of computer data storage. A random-access memory
device allows data items to be read and written in roughly the same amount of time regardless
of the order in which data items are accessed.
CPU (pronounced as separate letters) is the abbreviation for central processing unit.
Sometimes referred to simply as the central processor, but more commonly called processor,
the CPU is the brains of the computer where most calculations take place. In terms of
computing power, the CPU is the most important element of a computer system.
Intel Core i7: High-end
Intel Core i5: Mainstream
Intel Core i3: Entry-level

Graphics Processor
graphics processing unit (GPU), is similar to a computer's CPU. A GPU, however, is
designed specifically for performing the complex mathematical and geometric calculations
that are necessary for graphics rendering. Its what keeps the graphics going.

Video Display/Output ( LCD, Monochrome, Colour)
A device that accepts video signals from a computer and provides information in a visual
form.
Lcd - A liquid-crystal display (LCD) is a flat panel display, electronic visual display, or video
display that uses the light modulating properties of liquid crystals. Liquid crystals do not emit
light directly.
Monochrome a photograph or picture developed or executed in black and white or in varying
tones of only one colour.
2. Color television is part of the history of television, the technology of television and practices
associated with television's transmission of moving images in color video.
Sound/Audio
vibrations that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach a
person's or animal's ear. Light travels faster than sound.
Storage Media
Storage media are devices that store application and user information. The primary storage
media for a computer is usually the internal hard drive. Most internal drives are regular IDE
hard drives that come with the computer. A removable drive is another popular storage
device that is usually connected by firewire, USB, or parallel port
Power Supply
A power supply is an electronic device that supplies electric power to an electrical load. The
primary function of a power supply is to convert one form of electrical energy to another and,
as a result, power supplies are sometimes referred to as electric power converters.
Software Kernel (operating system)
In computing, the kernel is a computer program that manages input/output requests from
software and translates them into data processing instructions for the central processing unit
and other electronic components of a computer. The kernel is a fundamental part of a modern
computer's operating system.
HCI
HCI (human-computer interaction) is the study of how people interact with computers and to
what extent computers are or are not developed for successful interaction with human beings.
As its name implies, HCI consists of three parts: the user, the computer itself, and the ways
they work together.
LAN
A local area network is a computer network that interconnects computers within a limited
area such as a home, school, computer laboratory, or office building, using network media.
3. GPRS
General packet radio service (GPRS) is a packet oriented mobile data service available to
users of the 2G cellular communication systems global system for mobile communications
(GSM), as well as in the 3G systems.
WAP
Wireless Application Protocol is a technical standard for accessing information over a mobile
wireless network. A WAP browser is a web browser for mobile devices such as mobile
phones that uses the protocol.
Cache
a collection of items of the same type stored in a hidden or inaccessible place.
MCP (Media Communications Processor)
Passing your first Microsoft Certification exam automatically makes you a member of the
Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) community, with access to all of the benefits
provided through the Microsoft Certification Program and the private MCP member site.
2D v 3D graphics processing
3D animation differs significantly from 2D, both in terms of the process used to create it but
the end result as well. 3D animation produces a more realistic character that is represented in
all three dimensions (height, width and depth). All 3D animation with the exception of stop
motion animation is created using computer software applications.
Subscription TV
Pay television, premium television, or premium channels refer to subscription-based
television services, usually provided by both analog and digital cable and satellite television,
but also increasingly via digital terrestrial and internet television.
ETV (Enhanced Television)
With Enhanced TV from Optimum TV, you can interact with your TV in a whole new way.
With your remote control, you can select up-to-the-minute local news and sports updates,
explore entertainment options, research the purchase of your next car or a new home and
even play games.
4. API (Graphical and Sound)
The Graph API is the primary way to get data in and out of Facebook's social graph. It's a
low-level HTTP-based API that you can use to query data, post new stories, upload photos
and a variety of other tasks that an app might need to do.
Interpreted programming languages for games
Compiled programming languages for games
A compiled language is a programming language whose implementations are typically
compilers (translators that generate machine code from source code), and not interpreters
(step-by-step executors of source code, where no pre-runtime translation takes place).
Object-oriented programming
In object-oriented programming (OOP), inheritance is when an object or class is based on
another object or class, using the same implementation; it is a mechanism for code reuse
Scripting languages for games
Game programming, a subset of game development, is the software development of video
games. Game programming requires substantial skill in software engineering as well as
specialization in one or more of the following areas, which overlap heavily to create a game:
simulation, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, physics, audio programming, and input.
Though often engaged in by professional game programmers, many novices may program
games as a hobby.
