This document outlines activities for earning a Digital Scotland challenge badge through Girlguiding Scotland. It includes 4 topics - research and exploration, creativity and design, problem solving/computational thinking, and digital technology careers. Each topic has multiple age-appropriate activities that can be completed either digitally or without devices. Activities include exploring how computers are used, designing algorithms, learning about careers, and more. Completing a certain number of activities per topic earns participants their Digital Scotland challenge badge.
The webinar gave participants an exploration into how to use and incorporate coding activities in everyday learning as well as identifying web 2.0 tools and apps to support engaging students in coding activities across the school. The session also provided practical examples of how to implement coding activities and highlighted the value of coding in relation to curriculum needs.

This paper provides an overview of Computing Science delivery in Local Authority secondary schools.
Education Scotland carried out a survey of 356 schools between July 2021 and October 2021. The survey was promoted via local authority technologies leads, Computing Science teacher groups and Education Scotland officer contacts with local authorities and RICs. At the point of writing, the survey had 309/356 unique local authority school responses. This represents 86.8% of local authority secondary schools. While this is the majority of schools, it is acknowledged that the survey data is not complete and that this paper should be treated as provisional in this respect.
The survey collected data relating to Computing teacher numbers, delivery of Computing Science in S1/2 and opportunities for learners to study Computing Science or related courses in the senior phase.
The paper also provides an overview of Senior Phase Computing Science uptake and attainment, including summary data relating to attainment and deprivation.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. our young people to pursue interesting, important and
rewarding educational pathways and careers.
Girlguiding Scotland want to empower every girl to make the most of the amazing
opportunities technology has to offer, both in her everyday life and her future career.
But we know gender stereotypes and a lack of female representation in science,
technology, engineering & maths can sometimes hold girls back. In fact our research
found that from as young as seven, girls think that science is a subject for boys.
And only 37% of girls aged 7-21 would consider doing a job in technology (Girlguiding’s
Girls Attitudes Survey 2017). We want to change this – and we hope this challenge pack
will help you and your unit get excited about technology and discover the digital skills
to re-invent the future!

The table of activities shows four topics along the top: research and exploration,
creativity and design, problem solving/computational thinking and digital
technology careers. The level of challenge increases as the girls move sections.

2.1 Create your own dance.
Computers work by following a set of instructions. We call this set of instructions
an algorithm. Can you say this word algorithm and share this new word with a friend,
family member, carer or Rainbow leader? Computer games follow a precise algorithm
(set of instructions) and these algorithms are made by humans. Can you think
of algorithms that you use in the world around you? A recipe is an algorithm.
Can you think of other algorithms?
Let’s create our own algorithm! You are going to create an algorithm
(set of instructions) for a new dance and you will be able to teach it very
quickly to your friends, family, carers or Rainbow unit. Make sure your
algorithm is correct at every step!

2.2 Binary Bling!
Design your own jewellery with a secret message.
Messages are sent around a computer in code, and this code is called Binary.
When you type into a computer your words and numbers are changed into Binary.
The computer works with the binary code and when it needs to show you something
on screen, it changes the code back into letters and numbers you can read.
This is all done very fast.
