MEDIA STUDIES
Considering the ‘z-pattern’ advertising technique, the firstthing the audience sees is the name of the artist. Ithas been written in a bold
simple and capitalised font which stands out to the audience and immediately grabs their attention. The second part that is seen is the
artist himself, letting the target audience knows who heis and whathe looks like. Though existing fans may already know this, it is
important since this is his debut album advertisement that people are awareof whathe looks like as they might feel an emotional
connection through the artistand his personality before listening to his music. Thirdly following the technique, the title and the fact that it
is his debut album has been written on the poster – this is of less importance but is still usefulinformation for fans and adds further
information for the audience. The final thing that the audience sees is the ‘outnow’ and a link to George Ezra’s website, one of the most
important parts of the poster, since this is a way of promoting himself as an artist and allows the audience to find links to his social media
such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagramand YouTube. Italso allows the audience to buy the album that has been promoted through the
poster directly through his website.
The image used in the
background of the
poster is a high angle
shot. The camera is
looking down on the
people and George Ezra
is the focal point of the
image. He is dressed in
bright red and is looking
up at the camera
whereas the rest of the
individuals are seen to
be looking elsewhere
immersed in
conversation or
continuing their day.
This immediately lets
the audience know that
he is the mostimportant
person in the photo
(sincehe is the artist).
There is an obvious
link between the
poster and album
cover because they
contain the same
images. This is a
popular marketing
decision becauseif
the target
audience sees the
poster they will
easily be able to
find his album in
shops becauseit
looks very similar.
Looking at the colours involved in the poster, the audience may be able to establish the
genre. Itmostly contains earthy colours such as light browns, dark brownsand reds
which are often used within the folk genre. The title is in white which contrasts with the
darker background and makes it very prominent. Furthermore, sincethe image has
people of different ages and genders, I think the target audience has been established at
both males and females of perhaps over eighteen.
