The California Science Center provides hands-on science education experiences through its permanent exhibits on life, ecosystems, technology and more. It also has on-site education programs and hosts traveling exhibits. The 400,000 square foot facility in Los Angeles includes areas exploring the living world from cells to humans, ways technology meets human needs, and 11 immersive ecosystem galleries with over 400 plant and animal species.

Dear Mr. Tyler,
The California Science Center provides an innovative model for science learning
by combining exhibits with an on-site Science Center School and Amgen Center
for Science Learning as well as a teacher professional development program.
The Science Center is open to the public seven days a week, 362 days per year,
with free general admission to its permanent exhibit galleries. The facility, which
opened in February 1998, spans more than 400,000 sq. feet and includes four
major exhibit areas. World of Life probes the commonalities of the living world,
from the single-celled bacterium to the 100-trillion-celled human being; Creative
World examines the ways people employ technology to meet their needs for
transportation, communication and structures; and Ecosystems, a major expan-
sion opened in March of 2010, features an unprecedented blend of nearly 400
species of live plants and animals, and hands-on exhibits in 11 immersive envi-
ronments. Ecosystems highlights include a 188,000 gallon kelp tank populated
with live kelp, fish, and other marine life, a desert flash flood, and a special gal-
lery dedicated to the urban ecology of Los Angeles. The Ecosystems experience
empowers explorers with the science knowledge to become better stewards of
the environment. Additionally, World of Life, Creative World, and Ecosystems
each have a Discovery Room intended for children 7 years of age and younger.
These specially designed spaces make science more approachable for young
learners by focusing on hands-on learning experiences.
We aspire to stimulate curiosity and inspire science learning in everyone by
creating fun, memorable experiences, because we value science as an indis-
pensable tool for understanding our world, accessibility and inclusiveness, and
enriching people’s lives.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Rudolph

Plans are underway to build the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, a 200,000 square foot addition to the California Science
Center's main building, joining existing exhibits and galleries. Long envisioned as Phase III of the Science Center’s 25-year Master
Plan, this major expansion will include a diverse collection of aircraft and spacecraft, immersive experiences and the Science
Center’s signature hands-on, educational exhibits that encourage active learning through discovery.

Perfect register — that is, exact
placing of each color in its prop-
er space is secured by two guide
marks raised on each block, usually
on one corner and in the middle of
an adjoining side. The paper is fit-

then lowered for printing. Blocks
are cut from cherrywood, and the
paper, though of different grades, is
made of the fibres taken from the

to which not a bit of pulp is mixed
and is all handmade.
