Geocaching Games
innovative teaching motivates students
2o Geniko Lykeio Volos, Greece conducted geocaching games on the
following school subjects:
 CHEMISTRY 10th grade
 ANCIENT GREEK 11th grade
 MATHEMATICS 10th & 11th grades
CHEMISTRY GEOCACHING CHEMICAL ELEMENTS & THEIR
PROPERTIES
Teachers responsible: Maria Trouboutza , Despoina Tsiachri
Preparation: The teachers decide the didactic material they wish to
incorporate in this lesson-game activity. Once they have decided what
knowledge will be incorporated in the activity, they start making the cards for
the game. One suggestion for the Chemistry lesson could be this:

Teachers find the coordinates of certain spots in an area. This area can be
the school premises, a nearby park, and if the students are older it can be a
neighbourhood or a part of the city, depending on the availability of time and
safety standards each teacher wishes to set. The teacher marks the
coordinates of each spot and writes them down.
Implementation: Teachers place the containers with the riddle, the answering
card and writing equipment at the designated spots in the area where the
game will take place. Students are divided into 4 groups. They are given the
geographical coordinates of 4 spots scattered in the designated area. Each
spot has the hidden container with riddles to solve. Students use GPS to find
the spot, solve the riddles and return to the teachers with all the parts of the
game.
Evaluation: Teachers can use a google form questionnaire, or mentimeter to
evaluate the activity and assess the impact it had on students.
ANCIENT GREEK GEOCACHING THE SECTIONS OF THE ANCIENT
THEATRE
Teachers responsible: Dimitris Apostolou, Georgia Loukidou, Fotini
Tsiropoulou

  • 2. Teachers find the coordinates of certain spots in an area. This area can be the school premises, a nearby park, and if the students are older it can be a neighbourhood or a part of the city, depending on the availability of time and safety standards each teacher wishes to set. The teacher marks the coordinates of each spot and writes them down. Implementation: Teachers place the containers with the riddle, the answering card and writing equipment at the designated spots in the area where the game will take place. Students are divided into 4 groups. They are given the geographical coordinates of 4 spots scattered in the designated area. Each spot has the hidden container with riddles to solve. Students use GPS to find the spot, solve the riddles and return to the teachers with all the parts of the game. Evaluation: Teachers can use a google form questionnaire, or mentimeter to evaluate the activity and assess the impact it had on students.
