2. 'Computer' comes from the word 'Compute' means 'to calculate'
A Digital Electronic device which was actually
invented to create a fast calculating machine,
but now-a-days almost 80% of work done by
computers are non-mathematical.
3. Charles Babbage was considered to be
the father of computing after his concept,
and then later the invention of the Analytical Engine
in 1837. The Analytical Engine contained
an ALU (arithmetic logic unit),
basic flow control, and integrated memory;
hailed as the first general-purpose computer concept.
Father of Computer
4. COMPUTER stands for
"Common Operating Machine Purposely
Used for Technological and Educational
Research".
C = Common
O = Operating
M = Machine
P = Purposely
U = Used for
T = Technological &
E = Educational
R = Research
5. 1. First generation (vacuum tubes) (1940-55)
2. Second generation (Transistors) (1955-64)
3. Third generation (Integrated circuits)(1964-75)
4. Fourth generation (Microprocessors) (1975-1989)
5. Fifth generation (Artificial intelligence) (1989-Present)
Generations
6. The main features of the first generation are:
Vacuum tube technology
1. Unreliable
2. Supported machine language only
3. Very costly
4. Generated a lot of heat
5. Slow input and output devices
6. Huge size ,Non-portable
7. Need of AC , Consumed a lot of electricity
First Generation Of Computer
8. Second Generation Of Computer
Transistors replaced vacuum tubes, allowing computers to become smaller,
faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient and more reliable.It was a vast improvement
over the vacuum tubes. 2nd generation computers still relied on
punched cards for input and printouts for
output, and are moved from cryptic binary
machine language to assembly languages,
which allowed programmers to specify
instructions in words.
High level programming languages were also
being developed at this time, such as early
versions of COBOL and FORTRAN.
11. Fifth Generation Of Computer
The main features of fifth generation are −
AI includes −
12. AI is an emerging branch in
computer science, which
interprets the means and
method of making
computers think like human
beings
Artificial
Intelligence
13. Technology won't replace teachers,
but teachers who use technology will
probably replace teachers who don't.
