2. INTRODUCTION
Pervez Musharraf (11 August 1943 – 5 February 2023) was
a Pakistani army general and politician who served as the
tenth president of Pakistan from 2001 to 2008
He also served as the 10th Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff
Committee from 1998 to 2001 and the 7th Chief of Army
Staff from 1998 to 2000
Born in Delhi, Musharraf was raised in Karachi and Istanbul

3.  He studied at the Forman Christian College in Lahore and the Royal
College of Defence Studies in the United Kingdom
Musharraf entered the Pakistan Military Academy in 1961 and was
commissioned into the artillery regiment of the Pakistan Army in 1964
In the 1990s, Musharraf was promoted to major general
He played an active role in the Afghan Civil War, encouraging Pakistani
support for the Taliban
Musharraf became the head of the armed forces in 1998 when he was
promoted to four-star general by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
In 1999 he took the army control of Pakistan after the contentious
relations with shareef family

4. Kargil Conflict
The Kargil War, also known as the Kargil conflict was fought
between India and Pakistan from May to July 1999 in the Kargil
district of Jammu and Kashmir and elsewhere along the Line of
Control
About 524 Indian soldiers were died and 696 Pakistani soldiers were
killed
Pervaiz Musharraf was the Chief of Army Staff at that time and was
responsible for overseeing Pakistan military actions during the
conflict

Musharraf proposed a 4 point formula to resolve the
Kashmir issue leads to ultimate solution of prolonged
Kashmir issue which is very important for the peace and

6. Lal Masjid Operation
The siege of Lal Masjid was an armed confrontation in July
2007 between Islamic fundamentalist militants and the
government of Pakistan
It was a military operation to clear out a mosque in
Islamabad that had been taken over by militants
The operation resulted in the deaths of over 100 people

7. Emergency of Musharraf
A state of emergency was declared by President of Pakistan
Pervez Musharraf on 3 November 2007 which lasted until 15
December 2007, during which the Constitution of Pakistan of
was suspended
When the state of emergency was declared, Musharraf
controversially held both positions of President and Chief of
Army Staff
He later resigned as army chief 25 days into the emergency
on 28 November

8. Reforms of Pervaiz Musharraf
Pervaiz Musharraf implemented a number of reforms during
his tenure as President of Pakistan, including economic
reforms , educational reforms and devolution of power to
local governments
He also established the National Accountability Bureau to
combat corruption
He increased the enrollment in schools and universities and
improved the educational quality
He implemented a devolution plan that transferred from the
federal government to local governments
