What is Gender Equality?
 The process of being fair to women and men.
 Requires equal enjoyment by women and men of socially valued-goods,
opportunities, resources and rewards.
 It doesn’t mean men and women being the same.
Why is it Important?
➢ For the success of our organizations.
➢ It is the right thing to do and the smart thing to do.
➢ For the nations and the whole world.
➢ Companies with a female board representation outperform
those who has no women on their board.
➢ Businesses who include females in leadership do better than
those who do not.
➢ Organizations with gender diversity practices, attract and
retain the best talent.
Fact of Importance
 Women represent almost 50% of the world’s
population.
 Women represent 43% of global workforce.
Causes of Gender Inequality
❑ Patriarchy
❑ Discriminatory fosterage of children by parents
❑ Illiteracy and violence
❑ Sociocultural and religious influence
❑ Access to higher education
❑ Professional Obstacles
❑ Feminization of Poverty
❑ Over all, women are expected to obedient and
very submissive at all times.
Some Facts and Figures
❖ Women with full-time jobs still earn only about 77 percent of their
male counterparts’ earnings.
❖ 62 million girls are denied an education all over the world.
❖ At least 1000 honor killings occur in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh
each annually.
❖ 1 in 3 women has experienced physical or sexual violence at some
point in their life.
❖ Each minute, 28 girls are married before they are ready.
The common difference in our society
 Boys go to gym,
girls go to beauty parlors.
 Boys go to office,
girls stay at home.
 Boys play with ball,
girls play with doll.
 Boys are strong but
girls are sensitive.
Way to reduce the difference
✓ Equal treatment of children by parents regardless of their gender.
✓ Eradicating patriarchy.
✓ Equal educational opportunities for children.
✓ Instilling the notion of gender equality into kids at a tender age.
CONCLUSION
 Gender Equality must become a lived reality.
 It will come from determination, guts and heart.
 It will come from the men and women who believe they can make a
difference.
 We must close the gender gap.
Of all the great things ever created in the world, half of
its welfare has been done by women, half by its male.
