was coined by Gayle Rubin (1984) to
describe:
“the set of arrangements by which a
society transforms biological
sexuality into products of human
activity.”

(1894-1956) is commonly referred to as
the father of human sexuality research.
He believed that sexual knowledge was
the product of guesswork and had never
really been studied systematically or in an
unbiased way.
