This document provides an overview of Asturian cuisine and festivities. 2. BREAD
 Borona (cornbread or round loaf of bread made ​from cornmeal)
 Rapa (cornbread stuffed with bacon bits)
 Neno, ( Pie filled with Asturian saussage , ham and boiled egg)
 Tortos (small corn cakes golden in pan)
 Formigos, Tradicional escanda bread (Asturian cereal with tough
grain).
 Bollos preñaos (buns stuffed with highly seasoned sausage )

 Faba or Asturian bean: Main ingredient of the
typical Fabada asturiana (beans stew). It’s also
used in the Asturian stew which includes
cabbage, potatoes and black sausage.
 Wild mushrooms: Collected in the forests of
our region.
 Apples: Our most remarkable fruit, essential
element for making cider.

5. MEAT
 Cattle and sheep are essential ingredients of our most

 Traditional ingredient in the gastronomy of our region.
 More than forty different types of cheese which are
made of cow, sheep or goat’s milk, even combined in
different proportions.
 Cabrales (strong blue cheese), Gamonedo (cow,
sheep and goat’s milk cheese) and Afuega’l Pitu (cow’s
milk cheese) are three excellent varieties which have
obtained European Guarantee of Origin.
 La Peral, Los Beyones or Oscos are types of cheese
associated with other areas of our región.


7. DESSERTS

and different from other towns.

 Tuna fish festival: 2nd or 3rd week of

 San Roque : August, 16th
 Santísimo Cristo de Candás: September,
14th.
