California mugwort is a perennial shrub native to western North America that grows 1-5 feet tall and spreads widely. It blooms small yellow-green flowers from June to October. It can be used as groundcover and prefers full sun to part shade with low water needs. While it provides habitat for birds and insects, it can become invasive if not contained. Propagation is from seed in summer or from rhizome divisions.
