California tarragon is a perennial herb native to western North America that grows 2-5 feet tall. It has stiff, upright stems with linear to toothed leaves that are sometimes scented like tarragon. Small yellow flowers bloom from July to October. California tarragon grows well in full sun to light shade with well-drained soil, and occasional watering. It can be used as a groundcover, in large pots, and its leaves can flavor foods.
