Iris-leaf Rush is a clumping perennial rush native to southwestern North America that grows 1-2 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. It has flat, iris-like leaves that are evergreen but can become dormant in drought. Showy brown seedheads appear in summer and fall. It is well suited for areas along ponds, streams, or in rain gardens where it needs regular water but is very drought tolerant. Iris-leaf Rush provides habitat and food for birds and lizards. It grows in full sun to part shade in most soil types with little need for fertilizer or other care.
