This document defines and describes different types of healthcare providers. It identifies three main categories of healthcare providers: 1) health professionals like physicians who provide medical care, 2) healthcare facilities such as hospitals and clinics that offer medical services, and 3) health insurance providers which cover individuals' medical costs through financial agreements. Within each category, specific examples and descriptions are given of the different types of providers that fall under that group.

Health care is the maintenance or improvement of health via the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, amelioration or cure of disease, illness, injury, and other physical and mental impairments in people. Health care is delivered by health professionals and allied health fields. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, midwifery, nursing, optometry, audiology, psychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, athletic training, and other health professions all constitute health care. It includes work done in providing primary care, secondary care, and tertiary care, as well as in public health.
Defining a Culturally Competent Organization Culturally competent .docxvickeryr87
Defining a Culturally Competent Organization Culturally competent health care, broadly defined as services that are respectful of and responsive to the cultural and linguistic needs of patients, is increasingly viewed as essential in reducing racial and ethnic disparities, improving health care quality, and controlling costs. The U.S. government considers cultural competence as a method of increasing access to quality care for all patients. The aim should be to develop systems more responsive to diverse populations. Managed care organizations view cultural competence as driving both quality and business. By embedding cultural competence strategies into quality improvement initiatives to make care more efficient and effective, clinical outcomes are improved while costs are controlled. Those in academic settings agree that cultural competency education is crucial for preparing future health care workers, although appropriate education on the topic is provided in only half of the medical schools in the United States (Betancourt, Green, Carrillo, & Park, 2005). According to the Office of Minority Health, cultural competence refers to the ability of health care providers and organizations to understand and respond effectively to the cultural and linguistic needs of patients (Office of Minority Health, 2001). Cultural competence encompasses a wide range of activities and considerations. It includes providing respectful care that is consistent with cultural health beliefs of the clients and family members. Competent interpreter services and programs to promote staff diversity are other ways in which health care organizations can increase cultural competence (Clancy & Stryer, 2001). Because communication is a cornerstone of patient safety and quality care, every patient has the right to receive information in a manner he or she understands. Effective communication allows patients to participate more fully in their care. Communicating effectively with patients is also critical to the informed consent process and helps practitioners and hospitals give the best possible care. For communication to be effective, the information provided must be complete, accurate, timely, unambiguous, and understood by the patient. Many patients of varying circumstances require alternative communication methods: patients who speak and/or read languages other than English; patients who have limited literacy in any language; patients who have visual or hearing impairments; patients on ventilators; patients with cognitive impairments; and children. The hospital has many options available to assist in communication with these individuals, such as interpreters, translated written materials, pen and paper, communication boards, and speech therapy. It is up to the hospital to determine which method is the best for each patient. Various laws, regulations, and guidelines are relevant to the use of interpreters. These include Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, 1964; Executive Order .
Healthcare is comprised of many professions that work on different levels to care for their patients. Some healthcare professionals have tasks that vary from complicated surgical procedures, to changing a baby’s diaper. This chapter will discuss some of many professions that make up the healthcare system. Nevertheless, when we think of healthcare professions we assume that only nurses and physicians are involved. While physicians and nurses are a vital part of the healthcare system there are many other professions that makeup the healthcare field. This chapter will discuss the duties, skills, and educational level of many healthcare professions. The chapter which follows is divided into seven sections. The first of these sections contains Healthcare Professionals, which will include medical doctors, doctors of osteopathy, and nurses. The section will also discuss the differences between a medical doctors and doctors of osteopathy. The second section describes the official medical specialties. The next section is on Nursing, including different types and their duties, skills, and educational background. The fifth section will discuss other licensed professions like, Rehabilitation specialists, Occupational therapist, and Physical therapist. The sixth section will cover Healthcare Managers. This refers to the people that are providing services instead of care. The last section will discuss controversy between physician, nurse practitioners, and physicians assistant.

The Affordable Care Act had several important elements in relation t.docxmanningchassidy
The Affordable Care Act had several important elements in relation to community and public health. The main aim of the Affordable Care Act was to provide all Americans with access to health insurance that will enable them seek medical health with or without any existing conditions (Health and Human Services, 2015). Also it was to allow people to get access to primary and secondary prevention services like immunizations and regular disease screening e.g. Blood pressure and cholesterol screenings. Several behavioral health interventions are also to be covered at no cost. The Affordable Care Act is also supposed to prohibit insurance companies from rescinding coverage, prohibit insurance companies from denying coverage of children based on pre-existing conditions. It has also to expand the number of primary doctors, nurses and physicians assistants to underserved areas.
Nurses play important role in implementing the law. They help in educating patients about preventative diseases, services available for the community. Nurses help in research that is needed in health field. They also help in offering quality professional advice. Nurses also play a vital role in implementing the laws by advocating for the patients and informing and providing resources for the patients so as to be able to get good care.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Health services are usually
offered by healthcare providers.
“A healthcare provider is a
trained professional who
provides people with
healthcare” (Meeks, et al., 2011).
There are different types of
healthcare providers.
4. I. Health Professionals
Individuals who are licensed to practice
medicine and other allied health programs.
An example of a health professional is a
physician. A physician records the medical
history of individuals, provides diagnoses,
performs medical examinations, and
prescribes medications. There are different
types of physicians based on their area of
specialization.
5. DO YOU KNOW?
Healthcare practitioners and allied health professionals
are also considered health care providers.
“A healthcare practitioner is an independent healthcare
provider who is licensed to practice on a specific area of
the body” (Meeks, et al., 2011). Some examples of
healthcare practitioners are podiatrists (who specialize in
the problems of the feet), dentists, and optometrists.
On the other hand, “an allied health professional is a
trained healthcare provider who practices under the
supervision of a physician or healthcare practitioner”
(Meeks, et al., 2011). Nurses, dieticians, pharmacists, and
physical therapists are examples of allied health
professionals.
6. II. Healthcare Facilities
A. Hospital - It is an institution where people
undergo medical diagnosis, care and treatment.
- offers different types of medical care like inpatient
and outpatient care.

7. In the Philippines, there are two classifications of
hospitals:
1. General hospitals have complete medical,
surgical, and maternal care facilities. Some
examples are the Philippine General Hospital,
Baguio General Hospital, Cebu General Hospital,
and Davao Medical Center.
2. Specialty hospitals handle a particular disease or
condition or deal with only one type of patient.
Some examples are the Philippine Heart Center,
Lung Center of the Philippines, and National
Kidney Transplant Institute.
8. B. Walk-In Surgery Center It is a
facility that offers surgery without the
patient being admitted in the hospital.
C. Health Center The services in a
health center cater to a specific
population with various health needs.
D. Extended Healthcare Facility A
facility that provides treatment,
nursing care, and residential services to
patients, often the elderly..
9. III. Health Insurance
health insurance is a financial agreement between an
insurance company and an individual or group for the
payment of healthcare costs.
It offers various types of coverage: “medical insurance,
major medical insurance, hospitalization insurance,
surgical insurance, and disability insurance” (Meeks, et
al., 2011). Medical insurance pays for the fees of the health
professionals, laboratory tests, and prescription drugs.
Major medical insurance offers payment for long-term or
chronic diseases such as AIDS and cancer. Hospitalization
insurance pays for the stay of the patient inside the
hospital. Surgical insurance pays for surgery fees.
Disability insurance provides financing for members who
meet accidents or suffer from illnesses.
10. Health insurance may be sourced from both public
and private companies. An example of public health
insurance is PhilHealth. As mandated by law in the
country, employees of both public and private
companies avail of PhilHealth. It requires a small
monthly contribution from its members. These
contributions are saved and used for the medical care
needed by a PhilHealth member.
A health maintenance organization (HMO) is a
healthcare provider that offers medical services that
are availed through a prepaid amount of money. It is a
business that requires a relatively reduced monthly fee
for subscribers.
