This document discusses future trends in labor force displacement due to emerging technologies like automation, AI, and the Internet of Things. It notes that in the past, technology was expensive and people were cheap, but now people are expensive and technology is cheap and abundant. The future will see a combination of knowledge workers with multiple skillsets using high-tech tools. Factors driving displacement include business competition to lower costs, globalization, and new technologies. The document recommends researching trends, upgrading skills, obtaining multiple disciplines, and taking proactive steps like training to develop a competitive edge in this changing environment.

Summarizing the conference attended in Gulf Hotel, Bahrain on 14th and 15th of march 2018, organized by Polytechnic University Bahrain
Conclusion: The conclusion for this conference was to adapt to changes as per the change in the environment and enhancing innovated technology, software skills to your profile.
One example,
Dr. Ihsan Taie (Chief Technologist O&G Network Integrity R&D Division Saudi Aramco)
PHD in Chemicals but developed a department in Aramco related to IT where he hired individual with different specialization in IT field to create and develop robots to reduce risk and maintenance cost

Tech Talents: The pivotal success factor for digital transformation and SEA G...Djoann Fal
The biggest issue isn’t that robots are taking all the jobs — it’s that there aren’t enough humans to take them. Indeed, the study finds that by 2030, there will be a global human talent shortage of more than 85 million people, or roughly equivalent to the population of Germany. Left unchecked, in 2030 that talent shortage could result in about $8.5 trillion in unrealized annual revenues.
“Governments and organizations must make talent strategy a key priority and take steps now to educate, train, and up-skill their existing workforces,” Accenture 2018.

Bg wesleyan liberal arts to silicon valley oct 2016Bhaskar Ghosh
Talk at Wesleyan University, 29 Oct 2016, as part of the WeSeminar series during parents' weekend.
The initial intent was to share BG's experience building a Silicon Valley and how internships in SV are important, from a pay-it-forward angle as a Wesleyan parent. But as we prepared the talk with help from Nikhil and the career center at Wes, the theme grew larger to talk about the tech-driven disruption happening in the world, the culture of start-ups and how constant-learning will be part of everyone's professional future. And then about how a liberal arts education can be a huge positive in building skills, networks and careers in tech-driven enterprises, public and private.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

6. Globalization: Where technology, world
labor and business collide. ‘The Fourth
Industrial Revolution’
Future
7. Knowledge workers with multiple skill
sets combined with high tech tools
Future
8. High tech materials, technology that
didn’t exist just a few years ago
Future
9. Factors
Businesses competing with other
businesses, lowest cost possible
Globalism - not a level playing field for
the worker – fierce competition
Automation, Artificial Intelligence (AI),
Self service kiosks, ‘Internet of Things’
and …
11. Factors
Worker displacement via technology
Communications technology is shrinking
the world – ‘tech without borders’
New industries that haven’t been
created or in infancy using new
technology
13. Factors
Staff to have a combination of multiple
skillsets and knowledge
A Developer with robotics engineering
classes, CAD design background with a
science degree
A Business Analyst with accounting
principles, global trade background with
a degree in Organizational Leadership
15. Factors
Technologies and trends will
integrate/blend into society.
Normalization will occur
New jobs will be created but what’s the
replacement ratio?? 1:1, 1:20, 1:100??
What are the uncharted factors?
opportunities …
17. What to do?
Research latest business and
technology trends – creative and
emotion jobs are hard to automate
Staff from a ‘traditional worker’ to a
‘knowledge worker’ role with multiple
skillsets and disciplines
Upgrade or obtain new knowledge and
skills. Look for the ‘competitive edge’
19. What to do?
Get out, walk around. Watch what
others are doing
Networking is still important
Make a plan…
Then do it!!! Take that CAD design,
Organizational Leadership, business
process or robotics engineering class!!!
