Ecodesign is important because 80% of a product's environmental impacts are determined at the design stage. Furniture production, use, and disposal can negatively impact the environment through resource consumption, emissions, energy use, and waste sent to landfills. Companies and designers are looking to reduce these impacts through ecodesign which can be measured using methods like life cycle analysis and carbon footprinting to design products that minimize environmental impacts across their entire lifecycle from material sourcing to end of life.
