 Bridge a gap between where we are today

 Set the goal of an organisation
 It is the basic function of the management
 It helps the management to plan and decide
in advance the most appropriate course of
action for achievement of pre-determined
goals
 Planning is necessary to ensure proper
utilisation of human and non-human
resources
 Thus we can say planning is a systematic
thinking about ways and means for
accomplishment of pre-determined goals
 It is the process of bringing together
physical, financial and human resources and
developing productive relationship amoug
them for achievement of organisational goals
 According to Henry Fayol – “To organize a
business is to provide it with everything
useful or its functioning i.e raw material,
tools ,capital and personnels”
 Recruiting, selecting , appointing the employes,
assigning duties, maintaining relationship and
taking care of employees
 It is the function of managing the organisational
structure .Staffing has assumed greater
importance in the recent years due to
advancement of technology, increasing in the
size of business, complexity of human behaviour
etc.
 The main purpose of staffing is to put right man
on right job
 Giving directions or instruction to employees to get
the job done
 Leadership qualities are required
 Communicate with them at regular intervals
 It is considered as the life spark of business because
planning organising and staffing are the mere
preparations for doing the work
 Thus, directing is that part of managerial function
which makes the organisational methods to work
efficiently for achievement of organisational purposes
 Matching actual performance with the planned goal
 If problem arises , try to find out the reason for
deviation and suggesting corrective measures
 The purpose of controlling is to ensure that everthing
occures in accordance with standards. An efficient
control system helps to predict deviation before they
occur.
 According to Theo Haimann “Controlling is the
process of checking whether or not proper progress
is made towards the objectives and goals and acting
if necessary, to correct any deviation”
