The gothic movement began in the 12th and 14th centuries originating from dark, gloomy architecture and arts in England. Centuries later in the 1970s, some gothic culture evolved as punks adopted a new look wearing black clothes and dark makeup while listening to mournful or nu metal music. Followers of the darker gothic lifestyle not only wore black clothes but believed in an ideal lifestyle while being drawn to cult-like or necrophilic music about death, pain, and depression often inspired by 8th century European songs.
