The City and County of Denver has used an award winning ArcIMS based intranet solution for 10 years. The software is still very robust and useful, but unsupported. Geocortex was chosen as a platform to replace this internal tool. A discussion of the process of migrating including changes in the approach, requirement discovery and technical obstacles that were encountered and (sometimes) overcome in this year long process.

One of the key activities in IRENA is the development of renewable readiness assessments (RRAs). An RRA is a holistic assessment of conditions for renewable energy deployment in a country, and the actions necessary to further improve these conditions. An RRA is a rapid assessment of how a country can increase readiness and overcome the main barriers to the deployment of renewable energy technologies. It covers all services (transport, heat, electricity and motive power), and sources of renewable energy, with countries selecting those of relevance. The RRA comprises a process and a methodology that includes completing a set of templates and a final report. On the occasion of the RRA Mauritania, the Global Atlas was presented, as a potential supplier of data, data infrstructure and education for zoning renewable energy hotspots.

State of the Map Asia (SotM-Asia) is the annual regional conference of OpenStreetMap (OSM) organized by OSM communities in Asia. First SotM-Asia was organized in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2015, and the second was organized in Manila, Philippines in 2016. This year’s conference, third in the series, was organized in Kathmandu, Nepal on September 23 – 24, 2017 at Park Village Resort, Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, Nepal. We brought nearly 200 Open Mapping enthusiasts from Asia and beyond to this year’s SotM-Asia. The event provided an opportunity to share knowledge and experience among mappers; expand their network; and generate ideas to expand map coverage and effective use of OSM data in Asian continent. We chose ‘from creation to use of OSM data’ as the theme of this year’s conference, emphasizing on the effective use of OSM data. We also brought together a government panel from four different countries in this year’s SotM-Asia. We believe this event will deepen the bond and enhance collaboration among OSM communities across Asia. More information about the conference can be found on: http://stateofthemap.asia.

CO-TreeView is a web-based tree inventory and mapping tool built on Esri and Open Source technologies used by Colorado foresters and arborists to record and visualize the location, species, and condition of the trees that make up Colorado's urban forests. This user-friendly tool, which allows users to view tree and planting site data at a variety of scales, enables proactive, data-driven forest management planning, grant solicitation, and public outreach in support of the conservation and enhancement of the state's community forests. While designed for utility in a broad range of applications, the CO-TreeView tool was created in response to the discovery of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in Boulder in late 2013. The Colorado State Forest Service and the Colorado Tree Coalition, who funded the development of the tool, recognized the potential value in having a statewide system to house, aggregate, and display tree inventory data from diverse sources, encouraging Colorado communities to work together to build and protect urban forests.

This webinar includes an overview and demonstration of the desktop-based Geospatial Toolkit and the web-based Enterprise Geospatial Toolkit. Participants will also learn how the Geospatial Toolkit was used in Vietnam to support the development of Thanh Hoa’s Green Growth Initiative. The Geospatial Toolkit is a desktop-based application produced for individual countries or regions that allows data visualization and guided geospatial analysis of high-level renewable energy development issues (wind, solar, and/or biomass depending on data availability). The Geospatial Toolkit is designed for use by non-geospatial professionals, but also provides access to the geospatial layers for more advanced analysis. Geospatial Toolkits have been produced for several countries/regions in Asia, and around the world. The Geospatial Toolkit is recognized as a valuable tool providing decision makers with the ability to visualize the renewable energy resources relative to their infrastructure and conduct guided, quantitative analysis of high-level renewable energy resource potential under different scenarios. It can be used to identify areas with large amounts of renewable energy resource potential and/or few barriers to development, allowing more efficient targeting of detailed site analysis needs. The desktop version of the Toolkit is an open-source application, packaged with public data to allow widespread access to the application. Recently a web-based version, the Enterprise Geospatial Toolkit, has been developed, improving access to more spatially and temporally detailed datasets for analysis within the application and externally, improving performance, and providing access to enhanced analysis capabilities. Invited keynote at the ISWC2015 Workshop on Semantics and Statistics (SemStats 2015). http://semstats.github.io/2015/ The release of the W3C RDF Data Cube recommendation was a significant milestone towards improving the maturity of the area of Linked Statistical Data. Many Data Cube-based datasets have been released since then. Tools for the generation and exploitation of such datasets have also appeared. While the benefits for the usage of RDF Data Cube and the generation of Linked Data in this area seem to be clear, there are still many challenges associated to the generation and exploitation of such data. In this talk we will reflect about them, based on our experience on generating and exploiting such type of data, and hopefully provoke some discussion about what the next steps should be.

Presented by Ian Hanou at the Trees, People, and Built Environment 3 Conference, Birmingham, England, April 2017. Geospatial mapping and analysis of the urban forest including tree inventories and Urban Tree Canopy (UTC) assessments have become commonplace tools in North America. Cities and environmental nonprofits use inventories to improve management and maintenance, and use UTC to develop a citywide benchmark, monitor change, inform master plans, and prioritize planting efforts to maximize benefits where they are lacking in the community. As a natural progression with recent GIS and mobile technology innovations, inventories and UTC data have been incorporated into online mapping programs to increase access to this information and ease-of-use for non-technical users. Through a series of short case studies, this paper highlights some of the benefits, considerations, and impacts of bringing urban forestry data and prioritization tools into online mapping applications. Evidence suggests that such tools may increase awareness of the urban forest as an asset and a resource for community development, public health goals, and scenario planning. The collaboration that is created during an inclusive process to develop and implement such tools is discussed along with the role of tree professionals and nonprofits in UTC targets, followed by recommendations for practitioners.

This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management. The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM). Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing

Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process. In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds. - These are slides of the talk given at IEEE International Conference on Software Testing Verification and Validation Workshop, ICSTW 2022.
