Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her self-portraits. She was in a serious bus accident at age 18 that left her in constant pain and led her to start painting while recovering in bed. Though in pain, Frida smiled and made jokes. Her paintings combined realistic elements with fantasy and had a unique style that influenced fashion both during her life and today. Frida's home is now a museum in Mexico City honoring her life and work.

2. Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907, in Mexico.
Frida mostly painted self portraits.
Her paintings were realistic, but they had elements of
fantasy.
Frida was in a very serious bus accident, when she
was 18 years old.
Frida was in bed, healing, for several months.
She also had many surgeries, after the accident.
Frida was often in a great deal of pain.
Even though she was in pain, Frida was always
smiling and making jokes.

3. Frida Kahlo’s father brought her paints and created a
special easel, that she could use in bed, while she
was healing from the accident.

5. He asked Frida to paint his whole family…

6. Frida and Mariana became great friends.

7. She had a fawn, an eagle, sparrows, a spider
monkey, a dog, a cat, a macaw, parakeets and hens.

8. Frida had a
nickname for
Diego, Frog-Toad.
They loved each
other very much.

9. Frida had a very unique style. She influenced
fashion, during her life, and today.

10. Frida’s home was turned into a museum in Mexico
city. Her life and her work are honored there.
