Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her self-portraits that reflected her complex psychological world and eventful life. At 18 she suffered a serious accident that forced her to convalesce and learn to paint, influencing her artistic style of naive and deeply metaphorical works. Through numerous symbolic elements in her paintings, Kahlo consciously investigated and portrayed herself, producing portraits inspired by Mexican iconography as well as canvases focusing on her experiences with pain and identity.
