Friar Lawrence Essay
Crafting an essay centered around the character of Friar Lawrence is both intriguing and
challenging. On one hand, Friar Lawrence is a complex and multifaceted character in William
Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet." He serves as a mentor, advisor, and mediator in the
turbulent events that unfold. Analyzing his motivations, actions, and impact on the tragic
outcome requires a deep understanding of the play's context and the character's nuances.
However, delving into Friar Lawrence's psyche and dissecting his role involves navigating
through the intricate layers of Shakespearean language and Elizabethan cultural nuances. It
demands a keen ability to interpret the subtleties of the text and discern the underlying themes
that shape the friar's character. Unraveling his moral ambiguity, questioning his intentions, and
exploring the consequences of his decisions add an additional layer of complexity to the essay.
Moreover, a successful essay on Friar Lawrence necessitates a comprehensive exploration of the
play's broader themes, character relationships, and societal norms of the time. Connecting these
elements to Friar Lawrence's character requires a meticulous examination of the text, scholarly
interpretations, and critical analyses.
In summary, while writing an essay on Friar Lawrence may be intellectually stimulating, it is
undeniably challenging. It demands not only a profound understanding of Shakespearean
literature but also a keen analytical ability to navigate the intricacies of character portrayal and
thematic exploration. However, the rewards lie in uncovering the layers of meaning within the
text and gaining a deeper insight into the complexities of human nature as presented through
Friar Lawrence.

The s Influence On Their Home State
4.How Diasporas Engage their Home State
Diasporas can influence their home states in three primary manners. First, diaspora
use remittances to a) help and to influence family, religious and ethnic members and
interest groups and b) to a lesser and more recent degree, influence the state in
particular ways. Second, diaspora engage in home state political party mobilization in
order to influence home state politics and economics. Third, a diaspora uses its host
state political and economic apparatuses to influence their home state.
I.Remittances
Remittances remain the most widely studied and most enticing to sending states
governments of ways a diaspora engages its host state. Estimates of total remittances

In 2009, the World Bank declared its 5x5 Initiative which aimed to reduce the cost
of financial transfer from 10% of the total value of the transfer in 2009 to 5% in
2014. While the global average cost has decreased to 7.9% by the 3rd quarter of
2014, many prices of money transfer to sub Saharan Africa remain above 10% at
11.28%. Today, Money Transfer Operations remain substantially cheaper than
commercial banks (about 5% cheaper). The international community has particularly
focused on ensuring transparency in pricing with laws such as the United States
Dodd Frank law which mandates that an individual knows the full cost of transferring
money overseas at the moment that she/he sends the order. The hope of reducing
costs and increasing transparency is to allow remittances to create income generating
activities.
To accomplish this goal within sub Saharan Africa, where 70% of all money
transfers are controlled by a single company, greater competition is needed to drive
prices down.
Although there has been a significant effort in this area, sending states must be
convinced that their tax system should be designed to reward remittance investment
into business development and infrastructure so as to build a strong tax base rather
than to seek quick profits from hefty taxes on the incoming remittances.

Synoptic Gospels Research Paper
The Synoptic Gospels include Mark, Matthew, and Luke. Syn optic, meaning seen
together , because so many of their stories are in common with each other and can
be lined up columns and can be compared, often their words are verbatim. The
reason John is not included in this group is because his writings are not as similar to
those of the Synoptic Gospels. The writers of the Synoptic Gospels had a similar
theme going on than that of John. John does incorporate information about Jesusthat
seems to have come from some of the same souses as Matthew, Mark, and Luke, but
he also seems to have a much different view of Jesus and includes many more stories
that are unique to him than that of the other three. To break down the Synoptic
Gospels and how they each portray Jesus, it is appropriate that I explain how they
each relate to, and differ from each other.
Mark, based upon scholars findings, appears to have been the first written and ...

This is strange and much different from John as well as the other books. For us to
know this today ... we entail for it have been passed on orally or through recorded
documents of some sort. This clearly means that there is diffidently more to the
story and Mark is not telling us all of it. Why he leaves so many events out much of
Jesus life unwritten is unknown but there must have been a reason at the time just as
there is a reason John had written all that he had at the time he did.
Matthew and Luke are believed to have been written at about the same time. They
both seem to have used similar sources but do not appear to have ever known each
other, because they rarely are in agreement against Mark s wording. They both have
used Mark as a reference while editing Marks within their own writings by reverbing
or cleaning up his phrasing to be better and more fluently
Fun Things To Do In Madison Persuasive Essay
Fun Things to Do in Madison We hope you enjoy your stay in Madison, getting
together with old and new family and friends at Annie Jeff s wedding. We hope
you enjoy everything they ve planned. And if you feel like exploring Madison
during your stay, they re lots to do. Here are a few suggestions, in no particular
order. If you d like more info, don t hesitate to call. 1. State St: This is a long
pedestrian mall that connects the UW campus with the State Capitol. It has lots of
coffee houses, bars, cafes, shops, etc. 2. UW Memorial Union Terrace: A true
Madison tradition. Drink beer and have barbecue while overlooking Lake Mendota,
sailboats, and people. 3. State Capitol Bldg. Monona Terrace: Capitol s always open,

Monona Terrace is really neat, overlooking Lake Monona, designed by Madison s
favorite son, Frank Lloyd Wright. Always open. Trivia alert: Annie and Jeff met
when he portrayed FLW in a play at the Bartell Theater. 4. Water sports: Several
locations where you can rent water boards, canoes, kayaks. My favorite is
Knickerbocker Sq. on Lake Wingra, because it s a really interesting, diverse
shoreline, it has food, and it s close to a phenomenal ice cream stand called
Michael s Frozen Custard. Anne and I keep our canoe moored on Lake Mendota
so if you want to borrow that let me know. If you want to borrow my kayak after
Sunday, and feel comfortable in one, you can borrow that too. 5. Farmer s Market:
Every Saturday morning. Always ranked one of the best in the country. It encircles
the Capitol Square. 6. Running and hiking. Lots of options, but for folks staying at
the Inntowner I d recommend the Lakeshore Nature Preserve on the UW campus.
The trail starts at UW Memorial Terrace, and hugs the shoreline west to the next city,
Middelton. It extends out to a peninsula called Picnic Point. It also has digital

Robin Hood Research Paper
Socrates once said, The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on
fighting the old, but on building the new. Robin Hood changed a lot from
beginning to end. He started off being different, but in the end, he was the same as
anyone else. People had affected his ways of doing things, and how he was as a
person. Robin Hoodchanged over time by realizing what he has done, he changed
because of the decisions he made, and he changed after the hate between him and
King Henry dissolved.
Robin Hood changed a lot over time. He started off as an outlaw, and almost
everyone was his enemy. And so he came to dwell in the greenwood that was to be
his home for many a year to come, never to see the happy days with the lads and
lasses of sweet Locksley Town; for he was outlawed not only because he had killed
a man, but also because he had poached upon the King s deer (Pyle 21; ch 1). But in
the end, he was no longer an outlaw, he was part of royalty. Thus rode the King into
Nottingham Town on that bright afternoon in the early fall season; and none rejoiced
more than Robin Hood and his merry men to see him come royally unto his own
(907; ch 21). Everyone knew who he was, even before he became royal. Time
changes all people, and it really affected Robin Hood. ... Show more content on

Robin Hood made decisions that were not so good, but he also made some good
choices. He allowed new people to be his merry men, and tricked people into
giving him things, or doing things for him. But after Robin left the little dell he
strode along merrily, singing as he went; and so blithe was he and such a stout
beggar (692; ch 17). He tricked a beggar into switching clothes with him, so no one
would know who he was. I am right glad too see thee, Will, and thou wilt add great
honor and credit to my band of merry fellows (327; ch 9). He added many more
people to his band, including Allan a Dale. Robin Hood made good and bad
decisions, and all of them affected his
The Human Perception And Distinction Between Gender
And...
Evolutions in scientific thought have often contributed to overhauls of the human
perception and distinction between gender and culture. Consequently, scientific
revolutions have also triggered sociopolitical movements, which have had negative
and positive connotations on culture and society. This overhaul in scientific thought
began in the 19th century with naturalist Charles Darwinand his theory of Darwinism.
Darwinism states that animal species continually evolve through the complex
processes of natural selection and those most fit learn to adapt and survive to their
particular environment (darwin online.org, 2008). Shortly after Darwin made his
revolutionary claims, one of the most prolific and controversial scientific revolutions

In short, this theory has a history of elevating certain groups while oppressing others
and this paper aims to expose the impact of the Eugenics movement in and its lasting
effects on gender and culture in America, specifically on women and African
Americans and individuals with disabilities.
In the minds of eugenicists of the late 19th and 20th centuries, the ideal and most fit
race of people was Anglo Saxon. This obsession to breed a world dominated by the
white Anglo Saxon race negatively skewed the societal perception of women. It
placed extreme pressure on them to procreate and preserve the genetic integrity of
the superior race. Women were held in high regard for their ability and fitness to bear
and rear children, but little else. Women were adversely burdened with the stigma of
possessing a diminished and often emotion driven mental capacity in comparison to
male counterparts.
Dr. Roswell H. Johnson student of influential American eugenicist Charles Davenport,
expert, and professor of eugenics and prominent mind in the American Eugenics
Movement picked up where Darwin and Galton left off. He was co developer of the

It s Only Natural Essay
It is only natural that human beings have always been fascinated in what makes them
who they are and what characteristics of themselves set them apart from other people.
Behaviorists on the other hand believe there is nothing more in where they grew up
because their theory is human nature can be completely understood by the laws
intrinsic in the innate environment. Psychologists influence one another and trigger
theories for additional experimentation. Some psychologists do not care about other s
theories while some battle other s theories. Not many scientists believe the
behaviorist theory is as encompassing as it once was thought to be. One cannot

Some debate that one s environment is responsible for mental capabilities; therefore,
alcoholism could be from one s environment or biologically passed. For instance,
John Doe s parent is an alcoholic and noticed the heavy drinking consumed at parties.
This could steer John Doe to an altered mental, emotional, and physical condition
(biological factors). As teenagers develop they are subjected to mixed messages and
peer pressure. Teenagers will experiment to see what they like and do not like. For the
teenagers that opt out, they are likely to be harassed, tormented, and even bullied,
thus causing them to withdraw from social interaction and form introversion.
In this section, three main points will be discussed on how evolutionary, biological
genetic, and environmental factors have an effect on the development of an
aggressive personality. First, peer relationships especially during middle school can
influence in the development of aggression. The failure or success rate of developing
peer friendships during adolescence is a direct indication of the learning that is
identified with early parent and child interaction. Consequently, the individual stages
from birth through adolescence are like building blocks. It is essential that each
block is just as strong as the last one because it has to support the next block (stage).
This means if a child has a positive sense of worth then the child s mood is expected
to be friendly, thus interactions
The Electronic Health Record And Clinical Decision Support

The scenario selected for this evaluation project focuses on the electronic health
record. The scenario involves patient documentation, clinical decision support, and
performing nursing notes. The project involves evaluation and implementation of
EHR. The electronic health record and clinical decision support are not only relevant
to my current organization but also are particular interest of mine. The electronic
health record has helped to reduce the amount of paper which was a nightmare to
maintain with the number of new patients being admitted daily. The electronic health
record has also reduced the amount of missed documentation and errors. Any
clinician can testify to the wasted time and poor communication among providers that
sometimes results because antiquated paper records still predominate in our offices
and on the hospital wards (Shortliffe, E. H., Tang, P. C., Deimer, D. E., 1991). The
clinical decision support system has been a great assistance to clinicians. Nurses,
health visitors and midwives, as the largest group of healthcare professionals, record
and generate most of the information used to maintain and improve patient care
(Levy, S., Heyes, B., 2012). Clinical support systems (CDSS) integrate information
(ideally from high quality research studies) with the

A teenager stood on the stage, screaming furiously at a small group of people

bags under her eyes. Her medium length brown hair was pulled up in a ponytail.
She wore a strange ensemble, to say the least. She wore a long black vest with Her

Global Warming is a Fact, Not a Theory Essay
When many people think about their future, usually they are only considering things
that will effect or benefit their personal lives. Things such as the city that they will
live or if they will have the same job five years down the road. Few people think
about what may be going on in the environment around them. Global warming, also
known as the greenhouse effect, is a rise in the entire temperature of the earth s
atmosphere. It has been receiving a lot of attention from scientists in the past few
years. However, this is not a problem that has just been discovered. It has been
evolving throughout history since 1928. But, it is a system that started around
eighteen thousand years ago (When Did Global Warming Start?). Global warming is

Burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas releases a huge amount of
carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This is because almost all fossil fuels are
made of mostly carbon (Singer). Fossil fuels are used for many things such as
providing gas for vehicles and airplanes, heating homes, and powering electricity
plants. Power plants are what humans use to convert coal into electricity
(Khemani). Although scientists are working on ways to make the combustion of
coal safer for the environment, they still have not perfected it. There are large tube
like structures attached to many power plants. They are also known as stacks. In
many power plants across the world, these stacks are used to get the exhaust fumes
out of the power plants (Black). The reason that this is harmful is because although
a lot of the fumes coming out are just water vapor, other gases such as carbon
dioxide are also mixed in. Carbon dioxide traps heat in the atmosphere, so these
exhaust fumes are actually helping the process of global warming increase. Natural
gas is a fossil fuel; however it does not create as much carbon dioxide as coal and
oil do (Government Solutions to Global Warming). So if power plants used natural
gas instead of coal and oil, they could reduce the amounts of carbon dioxide that get
into the air (Government Solutions to Global Warming). Volcanic eruptions are a
natural cause that can lead to global warming. Smaller eruptions can cause weather
Important Concepts on Film Edition
Section 1F 1.Define parallel editing, montage sequence, and master shot, using
Nichols. Give an example of parallel editing that you notice in The Terminator.
a.Parallel editing is method of editing scenes that shows two separate incidents
happening at once. In The Terminator, this editing method was used when, after
calling Sarah Conner pretending to be her mom, the terminator comes to the hotel
that she and Kyle were staying at. During this scene, the scene where Sarah Conner
and Kyle are talking and preparing to leave and the scene where the terminator is
approaching the hotel crosscuts. Thus, the audience knows that the danger is
approaching. b.Montage sequence is group of shots that marks the change in time or
the unfolding of a process. (Nichols, 2010) c.Master shot is a shot that provides an
overview of the scene showing all the characters movement and gestures. It is
different from establishing shot in that establishing shot often puts a bigger action
into play. In The Terminator, master shot is applied when Kyle, in the future world,
enters the underground hut where human beings stay, master shot is used to show the
movement and gestures of Kyle and all the other soldiers. 2.Briefly summarize
Pudovkin s essay on editing. What does he see as the function of editing in relation to
narrative? What is his argument concerning editing as an instrument of impression ?

Tale Of Two Cities Allusions
Charles Dickens is universally perceived as one of the excellent authors in
literature. A Tale of Two Cities is one of Dickens most precise novels, and is also
exceptionally fast paced. Dickens chose to publish it in weekly portions, and there s
consistently ample action to keep readers captivated. Dickens, we find throughout
history, always had a knack for the dramatic, and it s undoubtedly presented in this
novel. This type of appealing style and approach is demonstrated in A Tale of Two
Citiesthrough the use of symbols and allusions, while also clearly presenting the
overarching theme of the book: Resurrection. One of the most important and critical
symbols thats Dickens uses is represented with wine. Dickens says, A LARGE

Examples Of Clytemnestra In The Odyssey
Clytemnestra s Odyssey
In Robert Fagles introduction to Aeschylus s tragedy Agamemnon, he calls
Clytemnestra a female Odysseus who has the right of retaliation on her side. Fagles
comments on Clytemnestra s actions and comparison of her to Odysseus can be
justified. In The Odyssey, Odysseus is seen as a very masculine authority figure
whose character is defined by his strength, courage, and confidence. His most
distinguishing trait, however, is his sharp intellect, which helps him out of some very
tough situations he finds himself in throughout the epic. Similarly in Agamemnon,
Clytemnestra is portrayed as a strong, independent, and quick witted character who
defies every convention of the female gender role. Within the beginning of the tragedy
, the watchman and the chorus describe Clytemnestra as, although being just a
woman, a man in strength of purpose. This provides a clear distinction between
gender roles but also presents Clytemnestra as having manly qualities. One such being
her dominant leadership, a trait shared by Odysseus too, during her husband s
absence. Fagles notion of Clytemnestra having the right ... Show more content on

It is the rejection of this role that leads to many thinking of her as devilish and
abnormal. Another factor that leads to her portrayal as a diabolic character is her
cunningness, portrayed in her skillful manipulation of the language she uses.
Clytemnestra s double meaning in her words which not only deceives Agamemnon
s men but also sends a justification to the gods for what is to come can be seen as
frightening as it is ingenious. Aeschylus portrayal of Clytemnestra can also be seen
as negative as it is positive. She seeks justice for her daughter which many people can
relate too. But at the same time is totally unrepentant for the act of

Factors To Reduce Climate Change
Climate is increasing our global temperature, and we should be aware of the effects
of climate change so we are conscious about how to alter our actions to reduce it.
Climate is the overall weather pattern over a long period of time. Over the decades,
climate has drastically changed. There are several key factors that contribute to how
climate works. The atmosphere acts a greenhouse, trapping the carbon dioxideand
other greenhouse gasses inside, gradually warming the earth. The clouds in the
atmosphere act as a second layer trapping in the heat from water vapor, and
blocking the sunlight. The albedo of ice caps and glaciers is high meaning their
reflectivity is high, however, with the melting of ice caps, more heat is retained into
the ocean rather than reflected off. Ocean currents also play a role in climate change
in the sense that the conveyor belt keeps the oceans circulating. In addition, the
Milankovitch theory which uses the earth s eccentricity, tilt, and wobble to explain
the alternating warm and cool changes. Carbon dioxide plays a significant role in the
effects of climate change. The trapping of greenhouse gasses, of which includes
carbon dioxide, has overtime caused a global warming. Since the Industrial
Revolution, humankind has tripled the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the
atmosphere(NASA, 2107). The burning of fossil fuels is a large contributor to the
emission of carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide is gradually warming the planet
which affects all
Wolfgang Mozart Research Paper
The interesting things that I learned about Wolfgang Mozart was that half of his
symphonies that he created was between the age of eight and nineteen. He was
given a nickname called Wolfe . It was funny to me that when he was a child he was
afraid of the trumpet. When Mozart was performing in London when he was young,
people could not believe that a young person like Mozart could be that talented, so
they thought that he was dwarf. When he was fourteen, he performed Mitidate re di
Panto and it was a successful performance for him. Mozart could understand the word
of musicbut could not write words. Mozart spent most of his life traveling to
perform his music. He wrote over 600 works and most of his writing that he did were

The Issue Of Gun Ownership
As time has progressed, the issue of gun ownership has become more and more of a
debate. With the development of new technology that can lead to devastating
destruction, it is extremely difficult to overlook the harm that this weaponry could
ensue on the safety of our nation. As stated in the second amendment of the
constitution of the United States, The right of the people to keep and bear Arms,
shall not be infringed. ( The Constitution of the United States: A Transcription ) The
framers, however, could never have known the potential for destruction that our
present weaponry can cause. So, the question to this day has been, to what degree
should the infringement of our right to bear arms be prevented? There are many
different possible answers to this question, however, to me, only one answer seems
to stand above the rest. The government of the United States, in order to uphold the
rights for the general good of the majority of United States citizens, should infringe
on this right to the degree necessary in order to provide the utmost amount of safety
for their people while continuing to recognize the original intentions of the framers.
This theory, although broad, I believe is necessary in order to get the greatest
amount of satisfaction for the population as a whole. In the present day, many
people believe that automatic weapons should be outlawed, as they have no greater
use than for mass killings of people. This is a reasonable opinion, as it is true that
Analysis Of Maus And The Sandman By Neil Gainman
When defining great literature, graphic novels are often the last source scholars
and educators consider. In general, graphic novels are seen as low brow, mass
culture entertainment or as pedagogical tools (Long 6). In recent years graphic
novels have proven to be worthy of being considered great literature and valuable
tools in the classroom. Comic books should not be viewed simply as aesthetic
objects, but rather as texts which function when read by their audience within a
specific context. Our education curriculums are heavily relied on reading
comprehension, which has proven to be a struggle for visual learners. Graphic
novels offer value, variety, and new medium for literacy that acknowledges the
impact of visuals. Novels such as Mausby Art Spiegelman and The Sandman (vertigo)
by Neil Gainman, not only appeal to visual learners, but are useful across all
curriculums. Maus and The Sandman offer different style narratives and visuals that
reflect the diverse nature of graphic novels. The variety in compositions between
these two demonstrate the strengths of the graphic novelgenre, and how they can be
considered valuable sources of education. The use of word image combination allow
the reader of graphic novels to experience much more than what words allot. For
visual learners that struggle with reading compression, the visual components of
graphic novels help portray the context in a medium that is easier for these learners
to digest. Maus by Art Spiegelman is one of
Conquistadors Summary
The reshaping of the New World began the moment Spaniards set foot on the
continent. Those first conquistadors documented their encounters with native
peoples, emphasizing their desire to convert these peoples to Christianity and away
from their heathenistic rituals. The documents presented by Stuart B. Schwartz
portray accounts from the perspectives of both the conquerors and the conquered. His
work does not provide much in the way of personal interpretation but rather displays
the documents so the reader can compare better both sides of the New World
inhabitants. These documents present an opportunity to consider moments of
heroism, greed, and despair born during the clashing of Spanish and Nahua cultures
and challenge the way historians view such cultures and the interpretation of primary
texts. Schwartz s goal, it would seem, is not to persuade readers of the accuracy of
one source over another but rather to call attention to how personal interests, class
and ethnic biases, and politics influence the interpretation of the conquering of the
Aztec empire. Irene Silverblatt examines the new Spanish lands after Spaniards have
established themselves in and amongst the native peoples. She describes the
development of a modern world through the views of Spanish imperialism and argues
that the Inquisition provides such evidence. Using church records, sermons, and
missionary guides, Silverblatt examines how the modern world was build,
experienced, and understood by the

Measles Vaccine
Before a child is able to attend school they are required to get the measles

The measles vaccination is a live virus that is transformed into a weak strain of the
virus so that your body can identify the cells that make up the virus. When your
body comes in contact with the virus your body will know how to fight it off so that
you don t become sick.
There are many benefits of getting the measles vaccination. One benefit of getting the
measles vaccination is that it prevents the measles virus to affect people because they

Queen Elizabeth I s Speech Analysis
Queen Elizabeth I s speech can be considered as a historical political text in which
Queen Elizabeth I is giving a speech to her troops for getting prepared for the battle
against Spanish troops, the Spanish Armada, managed by King Philip II of Spain,
during the summer of 1588. This speech took place in Tilbury, in Essex, where the
troops were assembled, near the Thames Estuary. With it, Queen Elizabeth I was
trying to make her troops know that Philip had reached Englandwith his fleet in order
to conquer it. This speech was found in a letter dated 1623, from Leonel Sharp, who
had been a witness when Elizabeth delivered her speech.
Due to everything mentioned above, this speech can be situated during the century of
Tudor rule (1485 1603), a glorious period of English history.
During the fifteenth century, the trade in England had been damaged. Before dying
and, in order to improve England s trade because of its importance, Henry VII, who
was the king at that moment, spent a big amount of money in a fleet of merchant
ships. When he died, he left the reign to his son, Henry VIII. In 1510 Henry married
Catherine of Aragon but, years later, after several disagreements, he got divorced and
married Anne Boleyn. It meant a breakdown with Catholicism, establishing by this
way the Protestant Church. Some years later, in 1547, Henry died and ... Show more

Personal Nutrition Analysis Essay
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans
are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their
diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a
healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout
my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have
been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight.
These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned
with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however,

On my current diet, I consume excessive amounts of refined carbohydrates and
added sugars. These types of carbohydrates do not contain the necessary nutrients,
needed by the body for optimal health. Also, consuming excessive amounts of these
types of carbohydrates may result in obesity. The DRI recommends that I consume
a minimum of 25 grams of fiber daily. My current intake of dietary fiber falls short
of meeting my recommended amount. Fiber is important in a healthy diet. It is
beneficial in maintaining good digestive health and with prevention of diseases,
including colon and rectal cancer. Adequate amounts of fiber also decrease the risk
of heart disease by lowering the amount of LDL cholesterol within the blood. My
current caloric intakes, varies from day to day. On some days, I exceeded the DRI s
recommendations; however, my caloric intake most often fell below the
recommended amounts. Both of these are important in maintaining a healthy body
weight. Consuming too many calories can cause weight gain. In addition,
consuming inadequate calories can have the same effect. Since calories are used as
the main source of energy within the body, consuming too few calories can slow
down the body s metabolism, making it difficult to maintain a proper body weight.
Although the DRI has not determined a set value for fat intake, my intake of fat is
high. A major problem with my current fat intake is that it is rich in

My Dragon In Beowulf
As humans, we all possess great qualities. We develop memories that we can
cherish forever. Hopes and dreams help us strive to do great things. However, we all
have our demons that we all tend to conceal. The famous poem Beowulf is renowned
for the battles against Beowulf and many monsters. The battles in the poem pose as
metaphorical battles. Beowulf defeating the monsters represent him trying to
overcome his demons. The last battle was between him and a dragon. To the reader s
surprise, he lost the battle. The dragonrepresents Beowulf s greatest demon. Despite
the dragons that Beowulf faced that are external, my dragons are more internal.
One of the most hellish dragons that I possess is my anxiety. My anxiety has got
the best of me most of the time when I was younger. It would be difficult for me to
go out with other people. I often found myself isolating myself from the rest of the
world. In the poem, Beowulf , Grendel often hides in his dwelling. A powerful
monster, living down in the darkness, growled in pain, impatient as day after day
(ln 80). Having excessive anxiety has developed into my second dragon which is
appearence. My appearance is the most staggering dragon that I have is because it
is a dragon I know I can never defeat. This dragon was mostly fueled by words that
still haunt me to this day. Being hairy is a big nuisance. People would always make
comments about my leg and facial hair. Being a senior that is five feet and three
Descriptive Essay On The Mall
I pranced myself across the parking lot off the mall with a grin on my face because
my parents were taking me to the local mall. I walked into the mall jubilant and
ecstatic because the Polaris Mall had a mini playground for kids and they had this
climbing wall which I completely adored. I could have never foretold the events
which took place next. The moment I walked in, I felt a fresh blast of air
conditioner air on my face. I looked around, taking in the ambiance of the mall. The
Starbucks to the right of me, the Nike store to the left of me. But I quickly forgot
about these trivial matters and I sprinted to the playgroundand immediately leaped to
the top of the slide. I slid down the slide, swung on the swings and saved the best
for last, the climbing wall. After I finished all of the other playground equipment, I
bounded over the playground with wide strides with a wide grin on my face at the
climbing wall. There was a couple of kids at the bottom of the climbing wall, I didn
t pay too much attention to them. There were also kids just like me climbing the
wall with skill and dexterity. I was determined to ascend the top of the climbing wall
before them.
I scaled the wall faster than I have ever thought possible. In doing so, I was
reckless, my feet placed themselves where I thought was a climbing rock. My other
foot immediately relocated itself and I lurched to the right and my feet displaced
themselves. I found myself no longer on the climbing wall but in mid air
Evolution of the European Council
Introduction
To fully appreciate the position of the European Council within the European Union
we first took a brief look at how the European Union came about. The European
project first started soon after the second world with the creation of the ECSC
(European Coal and Steel Community) to harmonise relations between the Nations of
Europe and to prevent any further conflicts of the scale of the wars that had preceded
its creation. The new spirit of cooperation aimed to bring about a new era of peace
and prosperity across Europe. The founding nations were Belgium, France, Germany,
Italy, Netherlands and Luxemburg. The first enlargement came in 1973 when Ireland,
Denmark and the United Kingdom joined the EU. Since then a further 18 ... Show

Step 4 came in the shape of the Amsterdam Treaty which reaffirmed the powers and
responsibilities given to the Council within the Maastricht Treaty. It then extended
these powers and responsibilities with regards to the EMU and CFSP.
The Nice Treaty was step 5 wherein it gave the Council the power to nominate the
person to be put forward for the position of President of the European Commission.
The final and sixth step came in the form of the Lisbon Treaty when the European
Council was established as a fully fledged institution of the European Union. The
Lisbon Treaty stated The European Council consists of the Heads of State and
Government of the Member States and is an official institution of the Union (Article
I 21) (Europa.eu, 2012). This treaty changed the structure of membership of the
European Council. Before the Lisbon treaty the membership was a two tiered system.
The first tier consisted of the heads of state or government of the member states and
the president of the commission. The second tier consisted of the foreign ministers of
each member state and one other member of the commission. Before the Lisbon
treaty only two members per delegation were permitted to attend meetings of the
council. This was to promote a more relaxed and informal atmosphere than that in
council of ministers. Since the Lisbon treaty there is just one tier of membership
consisting of heads of state, the European
Advocacy In Health And Social Care

Fine Tuning Research Paper
Science is defined as knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general
laws as obtained and tested through scientific method and concerned with the physical
world. The steps of the scientific method are defining a problem, forming a
hypothesis, collecting research and data, conducting the experiment, and defining the
conclusion. Fine tuning is the precision of the physical constants of nature, as the
beginning of the universerequires extremely precise values. These constants serve to
explain the nature of the universe, theories that potentially point to a divine creator.

The likelihood of being able to observe another universe is slim because
information probably could not transfer between universes. Besides these reasons,
a universe generator itself, or whatever universe production process would require
many constraints and parameters, fine tuning(!) as well. According to probability,
small patches of order are far more likely that large ones, so the most probable
observable universe would be a small one inhabited by a single simple observer.
Surprisingly, what is actually observed is a vast and fine tuned universe inhabited by
billions of observers. The laws of nature are definitely hospitable to life, because
humans exist. Otherwise, humans would not exist to notice this. If both necessity
and chance are not indicative of the existence of the universe, finally, design seems to
be the most probable option. As said by Fred Hoyle, A common sense interpretation
of the facts suggests that a super intellect has monkeyed with physics... and that there
are no blind forces worth speaking about in nature. The numbers one calculates from
the facts seem to me so overwhelming as to put this conclusion almost beyond
The Social And Political Causes Of The Haitian Revolution
The Haitian Revolution is based on the political purpose that France had when they
fought to possess Saint Domingue (now called Haiti). France, like other empires at
the time, was trying to extend its wealth and power. Therefore, possessing Haiti,
having a lot of gold, sugar, coffee, indigo and others were one way to be strong and
powerful. Being driven by the profits that Haitiwere emanating, African slaves were
continuously brought to Haiti, first to replace the Aboriginals that had died
previously, but also to increase their profits. This led to the slaves outnumbering the
French colonizers. Later on, the free people of color were demanding more right to
the French government and after their refusal, the slaves and the free people of color
revolted which led to the Haitian revolution (Simpsons 1942, 487). The French
colonizers were already struggling about the equality between themselves because
there was a hierarchy present within the White community. Moreover, what created a
reaction to help slaves to revolt was the religious ceremony performed at Bois
CaГЇman by the Maroon voodoo priest Dutty Boukman, which was attended by
representative slaves from several plantations (Laguerre 1989, 1). Boukman called
the help of the spirits to revolt against the white colonists. The revolution of Haiti in
1804 was a social and political uprising in the French Colony of Saint Domingue.
Voodoo rapidly became Haiti s way out of slavery, as it helped them reunite together

The countries are teeming with oil, ranking Nigeria as Africa s largest oil producer
and Angola as the second largest oil producer. In 2014, it was reported that Nigeria
was responsible for producing 2.4 million barrels of oil per day and Angolaproduced
1.8 million barrels of oil per day. While these numbers have fluctuated greatly in the
past, both countries still remain at the top as Africa s oil producers (Carpenter;

profit to both countries, however, it has also come along with a number of

Neither country has strong state institutions so political progress and economic

institutions (McMillan 156). Corruption is a major obstacle in Nigeria and Angola
which is influenced by oil money. In both cases there is a bloc of corrupt powerful

which directly impacts the country s ability to democratize. In Nigeria, oil
revenues have been the primary lubricant in making democracy work (O Neil,
Fields, and Share 760). Politicians have rigged elections by promising money and
positions of power to citizens to guarantee votes. This is problematic because
Nigerians are not having their voices heard. They are being bribed with money and
power to vote for a politician, which is enticing in a country where the citizens live
below the poverty line. This not only hinders democracy, but is a breeding ground
for violence (O Neil, Fields, and Share). In Angola, the government aims to keep
corruption and other abuses of power a secret from Angolans. The state owns most
newspapers and the only television station, so they tend to show government
propaganda in favor of the state only. Any journalists
Iphone Vulnerabilities
The Apple Inc. iPhone mobile devices have been a successful phone in the

jail breaking which allows third party applications without an official SDK from
Apple to run on the iPhone. A fix to this vulnerability would be to not download any
applications to jailbreak the mobile device or any untrusted mobile applications.
Another vulnerability to the Apple iPhone is the Airdrop figure, which allows a user

Black Americans And The Black Freedom Struggle
Many have thought that the end of the civil war was also the end of the
suppression against Black Americans. However, real freedom hasn t been present
to them. Discriminations against Black Americans were transformed and still
exist in other aspects. The life of a Black American was planned before he or she
was born, not much freedom in their hands. Black American experience
disadvantage and discrimination in many different institutions that all prove the
existence of Neocolonialism. From housing to education, formal and informal
social controls prevented them from equality and freedom. Moreover, Black youth
was forced to be in the pipeline of incarceration from school, because of the lack of
resources and attention to them. In this ongoing fight for Black Freedom, many
influential Black leaders stepped up. One of them is one of the most important
figures in the Black freedom struggle history, Ella Baker. This essay will first,
explain key issues on Black Americans freedom in housing and school to prison
pipeline, then identify Ella Baker s theory in the Black Freedom Struggle, and
finally define what freedom means. It s the American dream to own a house with
beautiful white fences and yard and live joyfully with families, but not many Black
Americans can live up to that dream. The hate and prejudice against Black
American didn t reduce much since the end of the civil war. I m not prejudice, but I

The way one shows emotions on the outside is very different from what they hide on
the inside. Individuals might change to fit in, but others will pretend to be something
they are not. While attempting to act as someone else reality will eventually show up

It warns him that MacDuff will come back to Scotland and destroy him. Acting as

Argumentative Essay On Vegetarianism
Whether you re a hard core vegetarian, or someone who wants to find out what Tofu
actually tastes like, going meatless isn t always easy.
Especially, when you re in college, it seems like every meal option contains some
animal product or meat within it.
I remember during my freshman year of college, I was on the school meal plan and I
struggled daily trying to find ways around the constant meat heavy items. Though the
meal plan did have vegan and some vegetarian options, I still found it hard not
eating the same meals every day. However, through trial and error I have come up
with some awesome tips for anyone looking to go meatless while also attending
college.
Tip #1 Don t be afraid to ask about the ingredients!
This tip applies to any vegetarian, whether you have a meal plan or not! I personally
try not to eat foods with chicken or beef broth in them, and many soups and sauces
may contain either. I also try not to eat foods cooked in the fats of animals and
unfortunately, a lot of fried food is prepared with it. If you re ever unsure about
what is in your food, make sure to ask the waiter or cook. When it comes to certain
foods, it is better to ask than just assume. For instance, one of my favorite soups
from Panera was the broccoli cheddar, but I recently found out that they cook it with
chicken broth instead of vegetable. Of course I was devastated, but I found out their
autumn squash is completely vegetarian so now that one is my new favorite. Of
course, if you re
The Aspiration Of Gastric Contents
Aspiration of gastric contents is a major cause of morbidity and mortality related to
anesthesia. According to the NAP4 report, aspiration accounts for 50% of
allanesthesia related deaths1. Aspiration pneumonia, sepsis and prolonged ICU
admission are common among survivors. A Swedish study on 185 385 general
anaesthetics reported an aspiration rate of 1 in 2131 patients, and four fatalities
related directly or indirectly to gastric content aspiration into the lungs 2. While the
overall incidence of aspiration is relatively low (1:2,000 1:4,000), its prevalence is
much higher in certain sub groups of patients. One such group is patients undergoing
emergency surgerywhere it is reported in 1 in 900 cases.3
The best way to prevent aspiration is to ensure an empty stomach at the time of
anesthetic induction. However, at the present time our ability to distinguish an empty
from a full stomach and low from high risk situations is limited. In many reported
cases that have resulted in fatalities the underlying risk was not appreciated leading
to inadequate airway and anesthetic management 4. Fasting time guidelines
developed by the American Society of Anesthesiology are widely followed in North
America 5. They suggest that for otherwise healthy patients undergoing elective
surgery, it is safe to abstain from clear fluid ingestion for a minimum of 2 hours,

Essay about The Critical Perido Hypothesis
The critical period hypothesis has been a long standing topic of debate in first and
second language acquisition. There are many studies that focus on the effects of age
on the attainment of a second language. The Critical Period Hypothesis theorizes, at
its most basic level, that younger learners are more successful than older learners in
language learning. It also theorizes that language learning is difficult after puberty.
Thus, a critical period or age limit exist in language learning. It is generally accepted
that the critical period extends to second language acquisition. However, there are
disagreements on the optimum age range in which second language can be easily
attained. The term critical period is used to describe... Show more content on

31). Thus, adults have a harder time learning a second language.
Arguments for and against the Critical Period Hypothesis (CPH) are found in many
studies in second language acquisition. The purpose of this paper is to determine the
acceptance of critical period and to find whether or not there is a support for a cut
off age (set off of critical period) after which adults can no longer attain native like
proficiency in a second language. Also, studies will be reviewed to determine if
adults can attain native like pronunciation post puberty. Finally, studies from 1960
1999 are sufficient to determine the support for or argument against the CPH on
second language acquisition (SLA).
Evidence for a critical period in SLA
The effect of age on second language acquisition is a subject of many studies.
These studies use Lenneberg s CPH as a base in order to explain why adult learners
have a difficult time in mastering a second language. A commonly asked question is
whether or not there is an age limit to attain proficiency in second language
acquisition. And, if there is an age limit, what is the cut off age?
There is research in the body of literature to support the notion of age as a factor in
second language acquisition. There are studies that sought to test the relationship
between age and second language competence. Support for the age factor
Uncontrolled Driving Technology
Drifting off to sleep while driving can lead to a vehicle drifting off the road. An
uncontrolled moving vehicle is dangerous and can cause fatalities, injuries,
property damage, as well as legal problems. Staying alert and awake is crucial
while driving. Rolling down the car windows creates wind in the vehicle and can
keep drivers from drifting to sleep. Passengers or hands free devices can allow the
driver to maintain an alert state of mind by engaging in conversations. Drivers of
cars or trucks sometimes find caffeine helpful to stay awake. None of these are
guaranteed to prevent falling asleep behind the wheel, and if it is possible the safest
solution would be to not drive until you are fully alert and able to give drivingthe
focus needed.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Impossible is an almost irrelevant word when creativity, determination, and
technology are combined with a common goal. Recent attempts to apply technical
advances to preventing and identifying accidents due to falling asleep while
driving have shown promise, but have not been able to go further than prototypes.
Cameras are able to record eye movements such as frequency and duration of blinks
as well as the space between the lids of the eye. This can be used to indicate the
level of alertness (R. Schleicher, 2008). The science is in place to make advances
to an in car alert system for drivers, but it would be unlikely to see it on the market
in the very near future. Concerns from researchers noted that the signal would not
be effective because the device would not pick up on the fatigue of the driver until
after the eyes were showing signs of microsleep (lids staying closed for more than
five seconds) and this would likely be too late. (R. Schleicher, 2008) In addition,
the cost of implementing a device is not one the car manufacturers are going to
want to pay for. Liability and privacy are more factors that I believe will prevent a
safety gadget of this type from being readily available to

Friar Lawrence Essay. Friar lawrence analysis essay - persepolisthesis.web.fc2.com

  • 1. Friar Lawrence Essay Crafting an essay centered around the character of Friar Lawrence is both intriguing and challenging. On one hand, Friar Lawrence is a complex and multifaceted character in William Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet." He serves as a mentor, advisor, and mediator in the turbulent events that unfold. Analyzing his motivations, actions, and impact on the tragic outcome requires a deep understanding of the play's context and the character's nuances. However, delving into Friar Lawrence's psyche and dissecting his role involves navigating through the intricate layers of Shakespearean language and Elizabethan cultural nuances. It demands a keen ability to interpret the subtleties of the text and discern the underlying themes that shape the friar's character. Unraveling his moral ambiguity, questioning his intentions, and exploring the consequences of his decisions add an additional layer of complexity to the essay. Moreover, a successful essay on Friar Lawrence necessitates a comprehensive exploration of the play's broader themes, character relationships, and societal norms of the time. Connecting these elements to Friar Lawrence's character requires a meticulous examination of the text, scholarly interpretations, and critical analyses. In summary, while writing an essay on Friar Lawrence may be intellectually stimulating, it is undeniably challenging. It demands not only a profound understanding of Shakespearean literature but also a keen analytical ability to navigate the intricacies of character portrayal and thematic exploration. However, the rewards lie in uncovering the layers of meaning within the text and gaining a deeper insight into the complexities of human nature as presented through Friar Lawrence. Second, diaspora engage in home state political party mobilization in order to influence home state politics and economics. Estimates of total remittances to the African continent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2009, the World Bank declared its 5x5 Initiative which aimed to reduce the cost of financial transfer from 10% of the total value of the transfer in 2009 to 5% in 2014. While the global average cost has decreased to 7.9% by the 3rd quarter of 2014, many prices of money transfer to sub Saharan Africa remain above 10% at 11.28%. Today, Money Transfer Operations remain substantially cheaper than commercial banks (about 5% cheaper). The international community has particularly focused on ensuring transparency in pricing with laws such as the United States Dodd Frank law which mandates that an individual knows the full cost of transferring money overseas at the moment that she/he sends the order. The hope of reducing costs and increasing transparency is to allow remittances to create income generating activities. To accomplish this goal within sub Saharan Africa, where 70% of all money transfers are controlled by a single company, greater competition is needed to drive prices down. Although there has been a significant effort in this area, sending states must be convinced that their tax system should be designed to reward remittance investment into business development and infrastructure so as to build a strong tax base rather than to seek quick profits from hefty taxes on the incoming remittances. B.Improving Efficiency of Remittances
  • 4. Synoptic Gospels Research Paper The Synoptic Gospels include Mark, Matthew, and Luke. Syn optic, meaning seen together , because so many of their stories are in common with each other and can be lined up columns and can be compared, often their words are verbatim. The reason John is not included in this group is because his writings are not as similar to those of the Synoptic Gospels. The writers of the Synoptic Gospels had a similar theme going on than that of John. John does incorporate information about Jesusthat seems to have come from some of the same souses as Matthew, Mark, and Luke, but he also seems to have a much different view of Jesus and includes many more stories that are unique to him than that of the other three. To break down the Synoptic Gospels and how they each portray Jesus, it is appropriate that I explain how they each relate to, and differ from each other. Mark, based upon scholars findings, appears to have been the first written and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is strange and much different from John as well as the other books. For us to know this today ... we entail for it have been passed on orally or through recorded documents of some sort. This clearly means that there is diffidently more to the story and Mark is not telling us all of it. Why he leaves so many events out much of Jesus life unwritten is unknown but there must have been a reason at the time just as there is a reason John had written all that he had at the time he did. Matthew and Luke are believed to have been written at about the same time. They both seem to have used similar sources but do not appear to have ever known each other, because they rarely are in agreement against Mark s wording. They both have used Mark as a reference while editing Marks within their own writings by reverbing or cleaning up his phrasing to be better and more fluently

We hope you enjoy everything they ve planned. And if you feel like exploring Madison during your stay, they re lots to do. Here are a few suggestions, in no particular order. If you d like more info, don t hesitate to call. 1. State St: This is a long pedestrian mall that connects the UW campus with the State Capitol. It has lots of coffee houses, bars, cafes, shops, etc. 2. UW Memorial Union Terrace: A true Madison tradition. Drink beer and have barbecue while overlooking Lake Mendota, sailboats, and people. 3. Monona Terrace is really neat, overlooking Lake Monona, designed by Madison s favorite son, Frank Lloyd Wright. Always open. Trivia alert: Annie and Jeff met when he portrayed FLW in a play at the Bartell Theater. 4. Water sports: Several locations where you can rent water boards, canoes, kayaks. My favorite is Knickerbocker Sq. on Lake Wingra, because it s a really interesting, diverse shoreline, it has food, and it s close to a phenomenal ice cream stand called Michael s Frozen Custard. Anne and I keep our canoe moored on Lake Mendota so if you want to borrow that let me know. If you want to borrow my kayak after Sunday, and feel comfortable in one, you can borrow that too. 5. Farmer s Market: Every Saturday morning. Always ranked one of the best in the country. It encircles the Capitol Square. 6. Running and hiking. Lots of options, but for folks staying at the Inntowner I d recommend the Lakeshore Nature Preserve on the UW campus. The trail starts at UW Memorial Terrace, and hugs the shoreline west to the next city, Middelton. It extends out to a peninsula called Picnic Point. It also has digital interpretive signs; just
  • 6. Robin Hood Research Paper Socrates once said, The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new. Robin Hood changed a lot from beginning to end. He started off being different, but in the end, he was the same as anyone else. People had affected his ways of doing things, and how he was as a person. Robin Hoodchanged over time by realizing what he has done, he changed because of the decisions he made, and he changed after the hate between him and King Henry dissolved. Robin Hood changed a lot over time. He started off as an outlaw, and almost everyone was his enemy. And so he came to dwell in the greenwood that was to be his home for many a year to come, never to see the happy days with the lads and lasses of sweet Locksley Town; for he was outlawed not only because he had killed a man, but also because he had poached upon the King s deer (Pyle 21; ch 1). But in the end, he was no longer an outlaw, he was part of royalty. Thus rode the King into Nottingham Town on that bright afternoon in the early fall season; and none rejoiced more than Robin Hood and his merry men to see him come royally unto his own (907; ch 21). Everyone knew who he was, even before he became royal. Time changes all people, and it really affected Robin Hood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robin Hood made decisions that were not so good, but he also made some good choices. He allowed new people to be his merry men, and tricked people into giving him things, or doing things for him. But after Robin left the little dell he strode along merrily, singing as he went; and so blithe was he and such a stout beggar (692; ch 17). He tricked a beggar into switching clothes with him, so no one would know who he was. I am right glad too see thee, Will, and thou wilt add great honor and credit to my band of merry fellows (327; ch 9). He added many more people to his band, including Allan a Dale. Robin Hood made good and bad decisions, and all of them affected his
  • 7. The Human Perception And Distinction Between Gender And... Evolutions in scientific thought have often contributed to overhauls of the human perception and distinction between gender and culture. Consequently, scientific revolutions have also triggered sociopolitical movements, which have had negative and positive connotations on culture and society. This overhaul in scientific thought began in the 19th century with naturalist Charles Darwinand his theory of Darwinism. In the minds of eugenicists of the late 19th and 20th centuries, the ideal and most fit race of people was Anglo Saxon. This obsession to breed a world dominated by the white Anglo Saxon race negatively skewed the societal perception of women. It placed extreme pressure on them to procreate and preserve the genetic integrity of the superior race. Women were held in high regard for their ability and fitness to bear and rear children, but little else. Women were adversely burdened with the stigma of possessing a diminished and often emotion driven mental capacity in comparison to male counterparts. Dr. Roswell H. Teenagers will experiment to see what they like and do not like. For the teenagers that opt out, they are likely to be harassed, tormented, and even bullied, thus causing them to withdraw from social interaction and form introversion. In this section, three main points will be discussed on how evolutionary, biological genetic, and environmental factors have an effect on the development of an aggressive personality. First, peer relationships especially during middle school can influence in the development of aggression. The failure or success rate of developing peer friendships during adolescence is a direct indication of the learning that is identified with early parent and child interaction. Consequently, the individual stages from birth through adolescence are like building blocks. It is essential that each block is just as strong as the last one because it has to support the next block (stage). This means if a child has a positive sense of worth then the child s mood is expected to be friendly, thus interactions

Burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas releases a huge amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This is because almost all fossil fuels are made of mostly carbon (Singer). Fossil fuels are used for many things such as providing gas for vehicles and airplanes, heating homes, and powering electricity plants. Power plants are what humans use to convert coal into electricity (Khemani). Although scientists are working on ways to make the combustion of coal safer for the environment, they still have not perfected it. There are large tube like structures attached to many power plants. They are also known as stacks. In many power plants across the world, these stacks are used to get the exhaust fumes out of the power plants (Black). The reason that this is harmful is because although a lot of the fumes coming out are just water vapor, other gases such as carbon dioxide are also mixed in. Carbon dioxide traps heat in the atmosphere, so these exhaust fumes are actually helping the process of global warming increase. Natural gas is a fossil fuel; however it does not create as much carbon dioxide as coal and oil do (Government Solutions to Global Warming). So if power plants used natural gas instead of coal and oil, they could reduce the amounts of carbon dioxide that get into the air (Government Solutions to Global Warming). Volcanic eruptions are a natural cause that can lead to global warming. Smaller eruptions can cause weather

Give an example of parallel editing that you notice in The Terminator. a.Parallel editing is method of editing scenes that shows two separate incidents happening at once. In The Terminator, this editing method was used when, after calling Sarah Conner pretending to be her mom, the terminator comes to the hotel that she and Kyle were staying at. During this scene, the scene where Sarah Conner and Kyle are talking and preparing to leave and the scene where the terminator is approaching the hotel crosscuts. Thus, the audience knows that the danger is approaching. b.Montage sequence is group of shots that marks the change in time or the unfolding of a process. (Nichols, 2010) c.Master shot is a shot that provides an overview of the scene showing all the characters movement and gestures. It is different from establishing shot in that establishing shot often puts a bigger action into play. In The Terminator, master shot is applied when Kyle, in the future world, enters the underground hut where human beings stay, master shot is used to show the movement and gestures of Kyle and all the other soldiers. 2.Briefly summarize Pudovkin s essay on editing. Factors To Reduce Climate Change Climate is increasing our global temperature, and we should be aware of the effects of climate change so we are conscious about how to alter our actions to reduce it. Climate is the overall weather pattern over a long period of time. Over the decades, climate has drastically changed. There are several key factors that contribute to how climate works. The atmosphere acts a greenhouse, trapping the carbon dioxideand other greenhouse gasses inside, gradually warming the earth. The clouds in the atmosphere act as a second layer trapping in the heat from water vapor, and blocking the sunlight. The albedo of ice caps and glaciers is high meaning their reflectivity is high, however, with the melting of ice caps, more heat is retained into the ocean rather than reflected off. Ocean currents also play a role in climate change in the sense that the conveyor belt keeps the oceans circulating. In addition, the Milankovitch theory which uses the earth s eccentricity, tilt, and wobble to explain the alternating warm and cool changes. Carbon dioxide plays a significant role in the effects of climate change. The trapping of greenhouse gasses, of which includes carbon dioxide, has overtime caused a global warming. Since the Industrial Revolution, humankind has tripled the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere(NASA, 2107). The burning of fossil fuels is a large contributor to the emission of carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide is gradually warming the planet which affects all

As stated in the second amendment of the constitution of the United States, The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. ( The Constitution of the United States: A Transcription ) The framers, however, could never have known the potential for destruction that our present weaponry can cause. So, the question to this day has been, to what degree should the infringement of our right to bear arms be prevented? There are many different possible answers to this question, however, to me, only one answer seems to stand above the rest. The government of the United States, in order to uphold the rights for the general good of the majority of United States citizens, should infringe on this right to the degree necessary in order to provide the utmost amount of safety for their people while continuing to recognize the original intentions of the framers. Comic books should not be viewed simply as aesthetic objects, but rather as texts which function when read by their audience within a specific context. Those first conquistadors documented their encounters with native peoples, emphasizing their desire to convert these peoples to Christianity and away from their heathenistic rituals. The documents presented by Stuart B. Schwartz portray accounts from the perspectives of both the conquerors and the conquered. His work does not provide much in the way of personal interpretation but rather displays the documents so the reader can compare better both sides of the New World inhabitants. These documents present an opportunity to consider moments of heroism, greed, and despair born during the clashing of Spanish and Nahua cultures and challenge the way historians view such cultures and the interpretation of primary texts. Schwartz s goal, it would seem, is not to persuade readers of the accuracy of one source over another but rather to call attention to how personal interests, class and ethnic biases, and politics influence the interpretation of the conquering of the Aztec empire. Irene Silverblatt examines the new Spanish lands after Spaniards have established themselves in and amongst the native peoples. She describes the development of a modern world through the views of Spanish imperialism and argues that the Inquisition provides such evidence. Using church records, sermons, and missionary guides, Silverblatt examines how the modern world was build, experienced, and understood by the

Fine Tuning Research Paper Science is defined as knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws as obtained and tested through scientific method and concerned with the physical world. The steps of the scientific method are defining a problem, forming a hypothesis, collecting research and data, conducting the experiment, and defining the conclusion. Fine tuning is the precision of the physical constants of nature, as the beginning of the universerequires extremely precise values. These constants serve to explain the nature of the universe, theories that potentially point to a divine creator. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The likelihood of being able to observe another universe is slim because information probably could not transfer between universes. Besides these reasons, a universe generator itself, or whatever universe production process would require many constraints and parameters, fine tuning(!) as well. According to probability, small patches of order are far more likely that large ones, so the most probable observable universe would be a small one inhabited by a single simple observer. Surprisingly, what is actually observed is a vast and fine tuned universe inhabited by billions of observers. The laws of nature are definitely hospitable to life, because humans exist. Otherwise, humans would not exist to notice this. If both necessity and chance are not indicative of the existence of the universe, finally, design seems to be the most probable option. The numbers one calculates from the facts seem to me so overwhelming as to put this conclusion almost beyond

The Social And Political Causes Of The Haitian Revolution The Haitian Revolution is based on the political purpose that France had when they fought to possess Saint Domingue (now called Haiti). France, like other empires at the time, was trying to extend its wealth and power. Therefore, possessing Haiti, having a lot of gold, sugar, coffee, indigo and others were one way to be strong and powerful. Being driven by the profits that Haitiwere emanating, African slaves were continuously brought to Haiti, first to replace the Aboriginals that had died previously, but also to increase their profits. This led to the slaves outnumbering the French colonizers. Later on, the free people of color were demanding more right to the French government and after their refusal, the slaves and the free people of color revolted which led to the Haitian revolution (Simpsons 1942, 487). The French colonizers were already struggling about the equality between themselves because there was a hierarchy present within the White community. Moreover, what created a reaction to help slaves to revolt was the religious ceremony performed at Bois CaГЇman by the Maroon voodoo priest Dutty Boukman, which was attended by representative slaves from several plantations (Laguerre 1989, 1). Boukman called the help of the spirits to revolt against the white colonists. The revolution of Haiti in 1804 was a social and political uprising in the French Colony of Saint Domingue. Voodoo rapidly became Haiti s way out of slavery, as it helped them reunite together and gain the

Especially, when you re in college, it seems like every meal option contains some animal product or meat within it. I remember during my freshman year of college, I was on the school meal plan and I struggled daily trying to find ways around the constant meat heavy items. Though the meal plan did have vegan and some vegetarian options, I still found it hard not eating the same meals every day. However, through trial and error I have come up with some awesome tips for anyone looking to go meatless while also attending college. Tip #1 Don t be afraid to ask about the ingredients! This tip applies to any vegetarian, whether you have a meal plan or not! I personally try not to eat foods with chicken or beef broth in them, and many soups and sauces may contain either. I also try not to eat foods cooked in the fats of animals and unfortunately, a lot of fried food is prepared with it. According to the NAP4 report, aspiration accounts for 50% of allanesthesia related deaths1. Aspiration pneumonia, sepsis and prolonged ICU admission are common among survivors. A Swedish study on 185 385 general anaesthetics reported an aspiration rate of 1 in 2131 patients, and four fatalities related directly or indirectly to gastric content aspiration into the lungs 2. While the overall incidence of aspiration is relatively low (1:2,000 1:4,000), its prevalence is much higher in certain sub groups of patients. One such group is patients undergoing emergency surgerywhere it is reported in 1 in 900 cases.3 The best way to prevent aspiration is to ensure an empty stomach at the time of anesthetic induction. However, at the present time our ability to distinguish an empty from a full stomach and low from high risk situations is limited. In many reported cases that have resulted in fatalities the underlying risk was not appreciated leading to inadequate airway and anesthetic management 4. Fasting time guidelines developed by the American Society of Anesthesiology are widely followed in North America 5. They suggest that for otherwise healthy patients undergoing elective surgery, it is safe to abstain from clear fluid ingestion for a minimum of 2 hours, and for a full solid meal containing fatty foods for a minimum of 8 hours 5. The Critical Period Hypothesis theorizes, at its most basic level, that younger learners are more successful than older learners in language learning. It also theorizes that language learning is difficult after puberty. Thus, a critical period or age limit exist in language learning. Arguments for and against the Critical Period Hypothesis (CPH) are found in many studies in second language acquisition. The purpose of this paper is to determine the acceptance of critical period and to find whether or not there is a support for a cut off age (set off of critical period) after which adults can no longer attain native like proficiency in a second language. Also, studies will be reviewed to determine if adults can attain native like pronunciation post puberty. Finally, studies from 1960 1999 are sufficient to determine the support for or argument against the CPH on second language acquisition (SLA). Evidence for a critical period in SLA The effect of age on second language acquisition is a subject of many studies. These studies use Lenneberg s CPH as a base in order to explain why adult learners have a difficult time in mastering a second language. A commonly asked question is whether or not there is an age limit to attain proficiency in second language acquisition. And, if there is an age limit, what is the cut off age? There is research in the body of literature to support the notion of age as a factor in second language acquisition. There are studies that sought to test the relationship between age and second language competence. Support for the age factor

Passengers or hands free devices can allow the driver to maintain an alert state of mind by engaging in conversations. Drivers of cars or trucks sometimes find caffeine helpful to stay awake. Recent attempts to apply technical advances to preventing and identifying accidents due to falling asleep while driving have shown promise, but have not been able to go further than prototypes. Cameras are able to record eye movements such as frequency and duration of blinks as well as the space between the lids of the eye. This can be used to indicate the level of alertness (R. Concerns from researchers noted that the signal would not be effective because the device would not pick up on the fatigue of the driver until after the eyes were showing signs of microsleep (lids staying closed for more than five seconds) and this would likely be too late. (R. Schleicher, 2008) In addition, the cost of implementing a device is not one the car manufacturers are going to want to pay for.
