What Do You Think Influences Our Dreams Research Paper
What do you think influences your dreams? Do you believe that there is a scientific reason behind it?
A psychological meaning? Or maybe you believe that they re messages from a divine source?
Whatever it is, our subconscious mind behaves rather erratically when presented with a soft pillow,
warm milk, and a large number of sheep.
The human race has been long since fascinated with the concept that is our dreams. This separate state
of consciousness, an alternate reality if you will, has captured the interest of the nation throughout
history. Perhaps this is due to the fact that we spend a third of our life in this delusional state; roughly
about six years, at the most, of our life dreaming, according to George Bernard Shaw. Properly
knowing the fact that a great deal of our life is wasted in a sedated state, thus raises another question:
Why do we dream? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amazing, right? In the study, dreams were found to be highly visual and often illogical in nature, this
fact ultimately being true, it was said by Barrett that the uncanny nature makes it ripe for out of the
box thinking that certain problems require. Her initial statement, in which was discussed at the
Association for Psychological Science, went along the lines of dreams are no different than the
thoughts that go through our minds during the day they are in a slightly different state from when our
eyes are open, as stated by Barrett. But why does our mind do this? The newest thought that will
plague our dreams has finally produced itself, and we will continue to look for

Positive And Negative Effects Of The Industrial Age
Harsh. Unsafe. Dangerous. These are all terms to describe factories around a decade and a half ago.
This was during a time known as the Industrial Age. The Industrial Age, characterized by its advances
in technology and increase in urbanization, started in England in the late 1700s and spread to America
by the mid 1800s. The changes brought on by the Industrial Age affected the US both positively and
negatively. Workers were affected negatively. They had to work in the harsh conditions of the factories
where they were overworked and put into dangerous environments. These conditions, however, led
labour laws being put into place, changing the US for the better The people working in factories were
affected negatively negatively by the Industrial Age. Early factory workers would have workdays up
to 14 hours long (Farr). While this was around the same length as a preindustrial workday, the amount
of work done within that time changed. Preindustrial workers worked in bursts of energy. Factory
workers, on the other hand, had to work nonstop in order to meet demands. A worker as young as 10
years old could have a 16 hour work day with only one break (Doc 1). Even when machines broke and
production stopped, workers had to stay in the factory, though these unscheduled breaks were often
used for relaxation. These long work days were tiring for adults, but even worst for child workers.
Children as young as 6 years old were hired as factory workers. They crawled under machines to

Organizational Systems and Quality Leadership
Task 1
It is critical to have an understanding of nursing sensitive indicators in order to provide safe, quality,
compassionate and satisfactory patient care. In this scenario, applying restraints to Mr. J, a demented
patient with hip fracture seems appropriate. However, it is standard practice that restraints are to be
removed as soon as possible, and the patient in restraints may need assistance to change position every
two hours. In Mr. J s scenario, there should have been a bedside commode, and a urinal for him to use
at the bedside so he does not have to walk very far to the restroom. As for the CNA, if she was well
trained, she would have been able to recognize the marks on his spine ... Show more content on

J s scenario is pressure ulcer. From analyzing Mr. J s case one can see the correlation between the use
of restraints and pressure ulcers. Obtaining data listed on the Braden Scale such as moisture, mobility,
activity, and nutrition are important when assessing for pressure ulcer risks. Once the collected data
indicates the patient is high risk then the established pressure ulcer protocol needs to be followed.
Nurses will need to minimize friction, support bony surfaces, manage moisture, and maintain adequate
nutrition to advance quality patient care. The other nursing sensitive indicator in this case is restraints.
As I have mentioned earlier the use of restraints in Mr. J s case seems appropriate as he pose great fall
risk which may further complicate his current health condition. However, it is important to perform a
complete assessment on the parameters for restraint such as cognitive functioning, history of
dementia, physical impairment, and drug interactions to determine the need for restraints. When
restraint is clinically indicated, and the benefits outweigh the risks then protocol for restraints has to
be followed. Once the patient is restrained, it is standard practice that restraints are to be removed as
soon as possible, and the patient in restraints will need assistance to change position every two hours.
B) To improve quality patient care throughout the hospital, the quality improvement department
should scrutinize, and keep track of the

Dennis O Rouke s Cannibal Tours
Dennis O Rouke s documentary Cannibal Tours , filmed in 1988, the famous director at the time had
much thought in regards to how the civilized tourists diminished the primitives and their culture. The
documentary is based on the experiences of European tourists as they traveled through the boundaries
of Sepik River in New Papua, Guiana. In the documentary, at first it appears to be that the Europeans
want to learn more about the culture of the natives in the land and to better understand their way of
life. Yet, as these tourists begin their journey they are surprised that the native s culture is a lot
different from their own. The tourists begin to believe that the natives were poor and uncivilized in
comparison to them, all by European ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found this scene to be quite disturbing because although the children were naked an starving, the

instead of getting them cloth to conceal their bodies.Taking advantage of the natives not knowing that

being a savage.Cultural Relativism is well played out through the film. The Europeans make
judgments on the behaviors of native, because they (europeans) lack intellectual awareness and
education to understand the lifestyle of natives. In this scene the film reminded me of the theme of
Cultural Relativism, as the tourist were making judgments on the behaviors of the primitives without
understanding the amount of intellectual awareness these lack of the European culture. I believe that
every culture deserves respect; tourist traveling into new countries should not portray the natives as
uneducated or uncivilized, without first understanding their culture. This attitude not only diminishes
the culture of the natives but also makes them feel as if they are less than the

Class Conflict And Class Conflicts
Class warfare, also referred to as class conflict or class struggle, is a form of social tension caused by
conflicting and competing socioeconomic interests between people of different classes (Zinn, 19).
According to Karl Marx and several scholars, this struggle provides the lever for radical social change
and development. Class conflict comes in many forms: direct and indirect violence such as wars,
starvation, illness and poor working conditions; ideological, such as the production of articles and
books. Moreover, this conflict can take on a political form, which includes swaying government
leaders with enticing offers to fulfill personal or ideological interests. Pre capitalism: Ancient times:

In ancient Greece, the majority (up to 80%) were slaves. Cities were mainly engaged in governmental
operations and the bulk of the economy was agricultural. The slave owners were largely plantation
owners, government officials, philosophers/scholars, all of whom were members of the leisure class
that tended to live in luxury with little in the way of work obligations. As such, slavery was seen as
natural. This view was held mostly by slaves owners but was also accepted by some slaves. They were
ultimately controlled by the institutions and ideals mentioned earlier. The leisure class were also the
subject of these ideals. Because they found physical work to be beneath their natural station, work was
viewed as the lot of the lower classes. In fact, other societies followed in a similar vein. Notably
Rome, who had much stronger institutions, especially those related to law and religion. Feudalism
Much was happening in the world during this period, but it was very different from what was taking
place in feudal Europe. With the fall of the Roman Empire, a social system emerged that was not
founded on slavery. It was hierarchical in form, with free peasants (not slaves) at the bottom and
monarchs and the pope at the top. In between is a list of classes such as lords, earls, dukes, bishops,
and so on. The system was based on a set of relationships between the members. These relationships

Which Paper Towel Works Best
Which Paper Towel Works Best
When you come to the paper towel aisle in the grocery store do you ever get frustrated and annoyed
by all the brands to choose from? Every brand is telling you that they are the strongest and that their
brand will absorb the fastest. Have you ever actually taken the time to figure out which brand is
indomitable and absorbs the quickest? Well today I will fill you in on this mysterious secret and tell
you not only which brand is not lying to you but also which brand you are getting your money s worth
and if paying that extra dollar is worth the name brand I think that the most expensive paper towel will
be the strongest based on an ice cube suspended over a paper towel over a bowl held by a rubber band.

After that I waited until the entire ice cube melted. This took about two hours or so. Now that the ice
had all melted and absorbed into the paper towel I could see that the ice cube had either broke through
the paper towel, absorbed fully into the paper towel or leaked though in some spots. When I was
finished looking over what had happened, I wrote down the results and everything all of my
observations.
The first brand that I decided to start with was Scott. Scott brand claims to have fast absorbing ridges.
I bought a package of ninety six one ply sheets for a $1.69. I figured out that each sheet costs around
0.018 cents. The paper towel sheets individually are 27.9 by 27.9 centimeters. The Scott brand held up
pretty well with the ice cube. The ice cube did not break through or rip the paper towel. The paper
towel was fully wet and absorbed the entire red ice cube. None of the red water leaked through. I feel
that the Scott brand has passed the test.
The second brand that I tested was Giant Eagles Clean n Tuff . This brand claims to be strong and
absorbent. I paid eighty nine cents for a ninety six 2 ply sheet roll. The sheets had the dimensions of
27.9 by 27.9 centimeters. Each sheet costs around 0.0092 cents. After the ice cube finished melting I
observed what happened and found that the paper towel absorbed the water with no tearing or
dripping through at all.

How To Write A Summary Of Chapter 10 By Kuhn
Chapter ten starts with Kuhn explaining that during scientific revolutions, scientists start to see
different points of view when they look at familiar instruments. This is because they are being led by a
new paradigm. He poses the idea of saying that scientists are even responding to a different world
when this happens. These transformations are common occurrences of scientific training. Some
experiments tell us nothing about paradigms while others vary based on the persons previous
experience and training. What people see depends on their past experiences and what they look at
according to Kuhn. He also says that psychological experiments are unable to be more than simply
suggestive. These experiments show that it;s impossible for psychologists to take part in the ... Show

However, Kuhn says that it isn t necessary to have a full parallelism and that we can gain from
relaxing the standard. When scientists change their minds about fundamental matters, Kuhn suggests
that this is a necessary part of a philosophical paradigm. He also thinks that scientist s changing their
minds is neither a mistake or all wrong. When crisis s occur, they suggest what some of the new
paradigm s characteristics will be. Crisis s are unable to be postponed indefinitely which was
demonstrated by Newtonian dynamics. Again, Kuhn suggests that the world doesn t change when a
paradigm changes but the scientist tends to in a different world because their viewpoint changes with
the paradigm. Normal science is clarified as aiming to refine, extend, and articulate a paradigm. With
paradigms, the interpretation of data is crucial to articulating a paradigm. However, data isn t able to
correct a paradigm. Therefore, normal science leads to the acknowledgement of anomalies and then to

In Sisterhood is Powerful by a collection of women, which is a book of action, to which was
conceived, written, edited, copy edited, proofread, designed, and illustrated by women. These women
wanted to give concrete examples of their oppression, in regards to the book itself, this would not
simply have happened without the workings of different types of women in putting this collection
together. With women becoming more consciousness of the liberation, in cases where women wrote
articles for this book. There being many reprisals : five of personal relationships were severed, two
couples were divorced and one separated, one women was forced to withdraw her article, by the man
whom she was living with. While another s husband kept rewording her piece until it was
unrecognizable by her own writing. Throughout the introduction, Robin Morgan mentions things such
as the political change, where she regards the being and will be shared for other women and how it
should be explained. Though in Morgan s case what she meant is that she first began to work on this

Plato s Idea of the Emergence of Tyranny from Democracy Essay
What are tyrants, one might ask. In the current sense of the word a tyrant is pejorative term, applied to
an individual in power who is selfish and self preserving. A tyrant is an immoral being, ruling over
those around him through force, a tax on the freedom of those he subjugates. Yet the question that one
should be asking is where do tyrants come from? Plato proposed that tyrants are a product of
democracy, that the liberty inherent to a democracy allows the self interested to manipulate the
system(generally through appealing to the population at large) causing a system with little liberty. This
paper aims to defend the claims of Plato concerning tyranny, particularly the origins of tyrants, as well
as to propose the safeguards that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plato states that the ones who are by nature most orderly generally become the wealthiest ( The
Republic Book VIII 564e). Tyrants emerge where the drones manipulate the masses into despising the
prosperous. Regardless of what someone believes causes certain individuals in a society to become
wealthy and prosperous, it very hard to deny that the prosperous class does not provoke envy on the
part of the non prosperous. This is where the large uninterested portion of a democratic population
make it possible for tyrants to emerge. Both parties (the prosperous and non prosperous alike) select
and support drones that defend their interests, as one group is busy procuring wealth, the other
uninterested in pursuing political debate. The most successful of these drone are those that defend the
interests of those they support the best, generally by victimizing members of the opposite camps and
defending their own against the victimization of others. They gain power and prestige to the point that
they can be called popular leaders.
Tyrants evolve from popular leaders because they are able to victimize and scapegoat members of
opposing camps with the support of the masses. The masses benefit from supporting their leader as
he/she continues to defend their interests, and generally the loss of the victims

Chemical Reaction Essay
There are also some elements that are not a part of any type of family. These elements are mostly other
metals that are located right after the transition metals. There are some nonmetals that are included in
this group. Some of these nonmetals include silicon, nitrogen, carbon, and phosphorus. All elements in
this group are some what reactive. Nitrogen is the most common element. Compounds using nitrogen
consist of silver nitrate, potassium nitrate, and nitric oxide. Silver nitrate is used in many different
chemistry labs.

this group is s2p4. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason that they are the most reactive elements is because they have seven valence electrons, and
they easily can gain one from multiple other elements to form a compound. Stability is met when an
element has eight electrons in their valence shell, so they easily can bond with other elements.
Fluorine, the element with the highest electronegativity on the periodic table, is the most reactive
element on the periodic table. The most reactiveness goes from the lowest to the highest in the
Halogen Family. Compounds found within the halogen group consist of hydrogen fluoride, sodium
chloride, potassium iodide, hydrogen bromide, and and silver chloride.
Noble gases make up group 18 in the periodic table. These are the elements that make up the noble
gases: Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon, and Radon. Noble gases reactivity is very low because
they have no valence electron to give or share with other elements. Noble gases can be described as
odorless, colorless gases. Noble gases are stable because they have eight electrons and fill up their
outer shell. The intricate chemical details behind the reaction would take years to clarify and the
formula of the colorful solid was later modified as [XeF]+[PtF5] (www.acs.org). This compound was
the very first compound form by using a noble gas. It was said before this discovery that the noble
gases could and would never form a chemical compound. The significance of the experiment
remained clear Today

How Is Holden Alienated In Catcher In The Rye
Alienation: it s a touchy subject for many. For some, it s second nature to alienate themselves. But, for
others, it s a concept foreign to their knowledge. In the book Perks of Being a Wallflower, main
character Charlie goes through multiple stages of self discovery all the while experiencing highschool

Charlie is the main character of Perks of Being a Wallflower, a book set in the early 1990s. Charlie
taps readers into his sixteen year old world, cueing us in on all the gritty details of his life. One aspect
of it, however, requires inquisition. Charlie is surrounded by people by friends and family yet is
alienated. Ironically, those who re his friends have also been alienated by society. He also is
unmotivated to do well socially, too. Charlie is seen to be very passive aggressive, letting others have
their way over his. He even lets himself deteriorate when he needs help. So, this is my life. And I want
you to know that I am both happy and sad and I m still trying to figure out how that could be, Charlie
says on page 11. This quote proves Charlie s feelings towards his own life, leaving one to assume his
alienation is society s fault. Why be motivated to fix your attitude when you will still be considered
abnormal by your peers. Furthermore, people in Charlie s life know he s different and aren t afraid to
remind him. You re a freak, you know that? You ve always been a freak. Everyone says so. They
always have, Charlie s sister tells him on page 12. This quote shows people s opinions on Charlie and
perpetuates the fact that he s alienated. Although, the reason for alienation is unknown and left for the
readers to discover themselves. Is it his growing unmotivation that was ultimately his downfall? Or

Sympatric Speciation In Grey Fish
Divergent evolution occurs when two populations of the same species are separated and become
genetically different. Two types of divergent evolution are demonstrated in Figure 2. One type is
called Allopatric speciation; this occurs when a population or group of organisms belonging to the
same species, are separated geographically. Over time, the separated groups develop different traits
due to environmental differences. In Figure 2a, the grey fish evolved in a lake the receives salt water
runoff, they would need to have evolved traits to survive the increased salinity.
Sympatric speciation occurs in the populations are not separated (Figure 2b). For some reason the two
populations don t mix even though they are in the same environment. Differences in behavior can lead
to sympatric speciation. For instance, one population feeds on plants at the bottom of the lake , while
the other feeds on insects near the surface. Over thousands of years of separation based on behaviors,
they become different species because each population would have traits to make them better suited to
eating plants at the bottom of a lake, or eating insects near the surface. ... Show more content on

A Visit From The Goon Squad Analysis
Every work of literature requires a theme for it to be worth reading. Jennifer Egan s A Visit from the
Goon Squad mainly presents the theme of ruin and redemption throughout the novel. This theme is
present alongside with other minor themes like the shift of American culture, and how the characters
self centered ways are crush by time. All of the major characters will find themselves at some sort of
low point in their lives throughout the novel. Jocelyn becomes addicted to drugs and spends a great
amount of her adult life going in and out of rehab; Benny will lose his record label contract and will
be seen as a failure by most of those still in the industry; and Sasha will show falling into ruin due to
her stealing addiction, self isolation from family, and lack of self love. The idea of ruin and
redemption is also present alongside the characters setting. Theses characters live in a post 9/11 New
York City, where the towers are destroyed, the streets and rivers are polluted, and surveillance is
amplified, making New York City reflect this theme in a mournful way. The same for the story
Goodbye, My Love , Ted goes to Italy, and notes the ways Naples is degrading. Theses images of ruin,
that the characters are consciousness of, are a representation of ruin in their own lives. Despite the self
destruction that each character faces throughout the novel, a counterbalance for the self destruction is
created when a sense of redemption is introduced. Two of the stories main

The Truth about Video Games and Violent Children
Violent video games are not training kids to be murderers. The video game industries have been called

aggressive behavior ( Violent...). Not all kids are affected by violent video games, but people do not

football has its positives to it, it also has its negatives. When people get too into it, they start betting on

Opportunity in Ladies Kidsʹ Segment
As footwear retailing in India has remained focused on menʹs shoes, there exists a whale of
opportunity in the exclusive ladiesʹ and kidsʹ footwear segment with no organized retailing chain
having a national presence in either of these categories. This is especially surprising as in line with
global trends women are the key decision makers for buying footwear. Of the total footwear market,
ladiesʹ shoes account for almost 40 percent though the unorganised segment constitutes 8090 percent
of this market, indicating a significant marketing opportunity for organised players. With the Indian
woman becoming more brand conscious as opposed to the past state of being product conscious, more
and more internationally renowned players are expected to enter the Indian market to fill this need

Compare And Contrast Black Powder And Smokeless Powder
In this week s reflection assignment the required viewing material was a video that compared and
contrasted two types of gunpowder black powder and smokeless powder. The video covered the basics
of each of the types of the powders. The video also briefly explained the different types of black
powder. In the video, the black powder was loaded into a forty five colt round and was fired out of an
eighteen eighty four colt revolver. The video explains that the revolver has a black powder frame and
isn t designed to function with the modern smokeless powder. The video explains that when the
revolver was manufactured the frame wasn t considered a black powder frame because the black

Basic Equivalent Of The Border
Professor Gardner, I combined my answers for question 1 and 3 due to they support each other.
* What is the Fourth amendment exception as it pertains to border searches? Describe the functional
equivalent of the border? Although the Fourth Amendment protects citizen rights against unlawful
searches while it also identifies the specific criteria where probable cause is required, the Supreme
Court supports certain circumstances where an exception to policy comes into play. The exception s
under border searches grants permission for authorities the sovereign right to stop and inspect people
and their property entering into the country without contacting a magistrate, and having to obtain a
search warrant before the search, , (Kim, 2009, p.1). Even though searches for contraband are
conducted at the physical location of the border where physical barriers and control points are
established, the border searches may be carried out at locations other than at the border itself. Kim
identifies two lawful concepts of authorized searches; searches at the functional equivalent of the
border and extended border searches. Functional equivalent of the border (FEB) is the physical
location, usually the initial practical location where people entering the country are temporarily
detained and questioned after crossing the initial border or point of entry. Prime examples include
international airports, sea ports within the country s territorial waters, and facilities located at the

American Indian Tribes Research Paper
The myths, stories and purpose of this cluster of stars differs immensely among the American Indian
tribes.
The Blackfoot tribe tells the story of poor boys, riddled by anguish and disgrace, decided to become
stars when their parents were unable to clothe them in yellow buffalo calf robes. The Pleiades not
visible during the spring and summer seasons signified the time for planting seeds and hunting
buffalo.
The Cheyenne tribe tells a different story regarding the star cluster. Legend has it the stars are in fact
puppies born to the Cheyenne Chief s daughter and a dog being (dog in human form) and symbolizes
the love the girl had for the dog being.
The star chart (on the previous slide) is dawn on the hide of a buffalo scalp, it depicts the charting of

Douglas tries to change his readers beliefs about what it means to be dedicated to the idea that All men

Obasan Culture Essay
Canada, as we currently know it, is a country that was built by settlers. Through numerous amounts of
settlements and constant immigration from locations all over the world, Canada s populations have
quickly become diverse and multicultural. However, while the country presently prides itself on its
multiculturalism, there is a history of racism and massive cultural genocide to avoid this acceptance
for a multicultural country. This is heavily reflected in Canadian literature throughout different periods
of times, beginning with the Aboriginal tribes who were forced to assimilate to European culture.

isolation and rejection from Canadian society that eventually leads to George s suicide. Through the

Anthropocene Ecological Issues
Imagine a dying world, where organisms and resources are rapidly vanishing and the life sustaining
environment converts into a danger zone for its inhabitants. Imagination is not required for creating
such a world because humans are currently constructing one. As a result of human activities, Earth has
been transformed and a new geological age called the Anthropocene has been seriously proposed. The
Anthropocene will witness the necessity for all walks of life to face numerous, new challenges as
climate conditions deteriorate and resources deplete. In order to confront the ecological problems
brought by the Anthropocene, communities must be resilient and this resilience must rely on collective
decision making and frugality. Moreover, there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is an emphasis on the individual seen all throughout various mediums of today s society and this
egocentric view stems from the idea of freedom, which is central not only to contemporary politics but
also to the humanities, the arts, and literature (Ghosh 119). The concept of freedom is attractive as it
gives power and a sense of control to the individual. With freedom comes a sense of hope and
possibilities, but as ecologist Garrett Hardin argues this concept is dangerous in the complex,
crowded, [and] changeable world as it separates people from one another and their environment
(1245). As humans have become more complexy interrelated, [they] have also become more distant
from one another and [from the] environmental problems (Ostrom et al. 281). This separation of
humans from one another will pose a problem as humans must unite to combat the challenges of the
Anthropocene. There must be a change from thinking of freedom in an individualistic sense because
man is dependent upon other organisms both for the immediate means of survival and for maintaining
habitat conditions under which survival is possible (Crosby 1186). Society must embrace a collective
freedom where individuals understand how their actions affect each other and the environment, and
can make independent decisions that will promote the benefit of all as well as themselves (Ostrom et

Who I Am As An Individual
This paper discusses who I am as an individual, through gender, culture, my worldviews and the
difference between me and other people, why Social Work interests me and what fit and proper means
through the Social Workers Registration Board. The word culture can mean many things to different
people over the world, most of us are who we are today because of the different cultures we have been
exposed to over the years through, friends, family and community to name a few. A brief definition of
the word culture means the total of the inherited ideas, beliefs, values, and knowledge, which
constitute the shared bases of social action (Culture, 2012). Many of us would share a belief and/or
view on situations based on our culture and what we have been exposed to. For example, I discovered
some of my culture, values and idea through family, but because I left home at a young age of sixteen,
I then learnt different cultures, ideas, beliefs, through friends, community, work and study. As I
became older my culture slowly changed as I married, changed country and had a family of my own.
Therefore, my culture experiences kept changing with me, for example, my study culture , turned into
primary school and kindy . Now I am a mother I try and instil some of that into my children as well as
allowing them to create their own beliefs and values through their own culture, like school and
recreational activities. I believe I knew my gender at a young age, I cannot really say for

Feminism In Jane Eyre
As an artifact of the Victorian Era, Charlotte Brontё s, Jane Eyre, is seemingly scandalous. The novel
initiates the conversation as to if women can achieve longstanding success in regards to their desires
through the act of questioning authority despite societal standards. Using Jane as the female
protagonist, Brontё delves into how women are wholly capable of championing autonomy and
fulfilling female passion if they maintain a certain level of self respect, courage, and humility.
Throughout the novel, Brontё puts strong attention to the fiery and courageous nature of Jane s
character. Even at the beginning of the novel when Jane is merely ten years old, one can gain insight
into just how bold she really is: I am not deceitful: if I were, I should say I loved you; but I declare I
do not love you: I dislike you the worst of anybody in the world except John Reed... (Brontё 36). The
fact that Jane had the courage at such a young age to question authority proves her to be strong and
fearless unlike most of the girls during the Victorian Era. A part of what ignites Jane s female passion
to question authority is Helen Burns. Unlike Jane, Helen believes in turning the other cheek and not
obsessing over the bad treatment she receives from others that are of a higher status: It is far better to
endure patiently a smart which nobody feel but yourself, than to commit a hasty action whose evil
consequences will extend to all connected with you and besides, the Bible bids us

The Effects Of War And Music Together Essay
The Effects of War and Music Together
How are music and war related? Music puts a voice in the people s ears, and tells them whether or not
we should be involved in that war. It helped out the troops when they were over seas to not be so
home sick. Also, every war preceding the Vietnam War had music to help or support the war, but the
Vietnam War is where music during wartime changed.
The Vietnam War has been called quot;America s first rock and roll war quot; because of rock music
that was played and listened to by all Americans. As the draft was raised and draft dodgers were being
cracked down on, an overwhelming number of military personnel belonged to one generation: the

Because Vietnam government banned a lot of songs from the airwaves soldiers preferred to listen
cassette tapes, either brought from home or purchased on leave. The tape players were small, battery
operated, highly portable, and therefore easily carried into the field.
Rock music during this time period reflected on the Vietnam War, and since music helps define a
situation,
music helped define the Vietnam War and how people despised the fact that we were involved. Lyrics
of popular songs were used in the context of the war. Rock and roll substituted for lock and load,
referring to the procedure for readying the M16 for firing or for switching the weapon from
semiautomatic to automatic fire. Songs were written in protest to Vietnam. One song that protested the
war was quot;Purple Haze, quot; by Jimi Hendrix. The song is about a paratrooper, landing in the
jungles to purple smoke (Hendrix).
During the Vietnam War there was a catch phrase, quot;sex, drugs, and rock and roll. quot; Having sex
with anyone and everyone was acceptable during this time period. It was called Free Sex. The drugs
were experimented with as well. Marijuana, LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), Cocaine, and many
other drugs were tried. Many people believed that The Beatles quot;Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,
quot; was perceived as a song describing LSD. Of course rock and roll

The Terrestrial Planet Mars Essay
The terrestrial planet Mars is a topic of conversation many scientists have been invested in for the past
few centuries. There has been historical evidence found that astronomers had been drawing maps of
Mars since 1860s, with a very good attempt for its time being drawn by German/Italian astronomer
G.V Schiaparelli in 1877. One might begin to ponder why Mars has been such a large interest in the
astronomy field. The red planet is a huge topic of debate because scientists believe there is a
possibility of life, although this has not been vastly established it has yet to be concretely disproven.
Life consists of things that are able to take in energy from the environment and transform it for growth
and reproduction, stimulation fosters a reaction like motion, and anything that has life will grow and
develop.1 Finding life on Mars is more significant than one might initially imagine, Earth may
potentially see an end due to global warming, collision between the Milky way and the Andromeda
Galaxy, or many other causations, which is even more reason the human race may need to find a
second home. Mars is filled with new mysteries that we have yet to discover that may be the secret to
establishing Mars as our new beginning for the human race. Mars, also known as the red planet is four
planets away from the Sun measuring out a distance of 1.52 AU. The surface temperature of Mars
ranges from 87OC to 5OC. It also experiences twenty four hours of daylight, which is unlike Earth.

Social Classes In America Essay
The United States is often seen by many as a country of equal opportunity. A place where social
classes do not exist. Unfortunately, thoughts such as these are wrong because the US is far from being
the only country to escape this exception. When observed closely there are signs that each person
manifests that distinctively show what social class they belong to. Although money is the most
common marker of class, education along with health related topics such as heart disease and eating
habits are strong inicators of class. Throughout time one of the most obvious class markers has been
education and it still remains so. People who belong to the higher classes view education as a higher
priority and have more access to the best school in the country. When stuck in lower classes people
must attend schools where books, computers, and education are not found at the same level. An article
in the Atantic Times mentions that Kids who belong to lower social classes fell behind children in the
upper classes by about a year or so. Today, that gap is close to four years. For those in the upper class
their kids are placed in an abundance of classes from an early age such as foreign language, art, and
many sports. Children who are in lower classes have no way of getting a head start when compared to
children in higher classes Sarah Garland also mentions how When children have plenty of time to

Hamlet has a lot of emotion going on that he isn t able to think right. Laertes on the other hand is
quick to come back to Denmark. He wants to take immediate action on Hamlet. His rage is greater
than his emotion which is why he is hurried to take Hamlet s soul. Laertes is a man that reflects upon

The Underground Economy And Its Effects On Canada
While the underground economy might benefit individuals involved in the trades and make some part

when sellers and buyers trade their goods and services then on purposely unreported the business
activity to evade the price controls. That includes avoiding the price ceilings, the price floors and tax
rates set by the Government. The black market is the second largest type of market in the world,

an underground economy. The most commonly traded are goods and services that are available in the
official market, but at a lower cost in the black market, or goods and services that have a limited
supply in the official market, but are sold at an elevated price in the black market. Despite the trade
being illegal, as long as both the seller and buyer comes to an agreement on the price, they trade
privately with cash to avoid being detected. Although many sellers get away with this, at the end of
the day underground economy is a continued cycle of affecting the country and its citizens, including
sellers and buyers in the black market, mostly its tax revenues will be affected, then the GDP, and

Critical Appreciation Of Dover Beach
Eternal Note of Elegy A sensitive mind can often feel the essence of The Times more deeply than its
peers. Matthew Arnold is an obvious example. When British empire was beguiled by the prosperity of
the surface of Victoria Time, as a poet and scholar, he wrote in his top ranking poem Dover beach sang
desperate elegy for the crisis in the whole western civilization. In nature, Dover beach is a masterpiece
recalling with emotion. It starts with a peaceful picture, and ends with a feeling of reasoning, using a
sense of the word. But it is different from traditional feeling poetry, but it uses some dramatic
treatment techniques, in the way of the poet s monologue. The dramatic scene in the poem is the night
of the moon, in a house on Dover s seashore, where people sail across the English Channel to French
ports. The poem started when the tide was full, and the sea was calm, and everything seemed so quiet
under the moonlight. Such good night is a perfect time for the lovers to date. So, the poet could not
help but telling his lover, Come to the window, how sweet the evening breeze is! But then came the
waves at low tide from the gravel. It gently and repeatedly chanted the beat, recalled the poet endless
thoughts, turning the scenery into lyrical poetry, giving the expression with the development of the
poet s thoughts. The poet begins by connecting the changes of the tides to the fate of the people,
because the tides, though rising and falling, are always the symbol of

The Importance Of Modern Media
Modern Media Today s society revolves around the media. It is in sync with the clicks of a keyboard
and with the voices on the television. Every day individuals find it arduous to stroll down the street
without hearing the latest presidential or local controversy. Most toon into the news every morning
and night, like clockwork. Some cannot function without technology and media for extended periods
of time. Over generations, the media has been shaped by the social environment of the time period.
For example, the climate of 2017 has made audiences question the media. Nevertheless, even though
it may be unreliable and dishonest, the media is still necessary for the intent of keeping the public
informed and entertained. The media has always had two main purposes, and by accomplishing them,
companies hope to get more allegiance from their viewers. To keep the audiences watching, and
furthermore keep money flowing, the media educates and captivates people. To keep the business
afloat they want to show viewers what they want to see. Gladstone explains this through a comparison
of a myriad of mirrors. Even if they are not completely clear you can always find yourself, and the
people around you, inside (Gladstone xxi). Gladstone also questions, Are you safer not knowing if a
company dumps poison in your river? ... Are you safer not knowing why we invaded Iraq? (Gladstone

Rhetorical Analysis of The Killer Instinct
Rhetorical analysis of The Killer Instinct (January 2000) The Killer Instinct is an article published in A
Monthly Journal of Religion Public Life by Institute on Religion Public life in January 2000. This
journal, which started from 1998, contains various articles with opinions, arguments, debates and
commentary on religious and moral questions, and social issues going in American society. Thomas
Sally, a poet and a writer, argues in the article that it s the nature of boys who constructs them rough

from her own experience throughout the article making clear sense of support to her argument. This
article by Thomas Sally is a successful argument appealing toward its audience with a clear and strong

strongest persuasive proof to her argument. The motive for her use of reasoning is strong due to the
explanation of suitable examples from her real life experience on the subject. Thomas Sally explains,

In 1977 a drought reduced the number of small seeds available for the birds, forcing them to rely on
larger seeds and nuts, which were difficult for birds with smaller beaks to open. The number of birds
unable to eat reduced as they died and gave way to harder beaked finches. Within a couple of
generations they had evolved larger beaks. In 2003 another drought struck the Galapagos and as there
were many large beaked finches, the food source of nuts dwindled, making the ability to eat smaller
seeds an asset. The numbers of larger beaked birds dwindled as food became scarce, leaving the
smaller birds to survive and reproduce. Darwin s theory was not well received when first written in On
the Origin of Species, though many scientists today use it as a basis for research in evolution.
Both theories suggest that a species changes over time to be able to better adapt to an environment.
Though Lamarck thought that the entire population of that species would evolve as one, i.e. all
offspring changes together with same adaptation. Darwin concluded that only the specimen with the
mutation or an altered version of a feature to evolve a species as they would be able to adapt and
survive easier than those without it, thus causing the unevolved to die off while the evolved lived.
Over many many generations the species keeps evolving until it has perfected the new trait, also

Parenthood Vs Casey Case Analysis
Webster v. Reproductive Health Services (1989) sent shock waves through the United States as it
slowly peeled back the layers of Roe. To recap, Webster deemed it was constitutional for the Missouri
legislative chamber to include in a bill that the life of each human being begins at conception despite
this being a debated fact among the pro life and pro choice crowds. Another interesting distinction that
was upheld, and helped to light the fire for other states to enact this, was that abortions could not occur
at public hospitals or any state owned property. Essentially, what Missouri said was abortion may be
legal, but we don t have to outright endorse it . This issue was not addressed at all in Roe, but it clearly
was a massive blow to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Hellerstedt ruled in favor of the pro choice movement and did limit the scope that states could
regulate and restrict abortion access with, the other cases still expanded the states rights and built
several cases of precedent against the trimester framework of Roe. Nonetheless, the legal argument for
making abortion legal in the first place is still upheld to this day.
Legislation and Public Perception
According to the Guttsmacher Institute, which identifies itself as a pro choice organization, since 1973
and the Roe decision 25% of anti abortion legislation has occurred from 2011 present. This is not a
coincidence, but rather a product of various other factors ultimately arriving at the conclusion that the
time is coming for the Court to once again review Roe and determine its constitutionality.
Various forms of legislation have occurred in recent years, which were meant to limit the access to
abortion as well as in general strip away at the right. It would appear a majority of states enacting
these laws are trying to move as close to the line between current constitutionality and
unconstitutionality on this issue to ultimately force the Court to once again take the issue up and
determine its

Black Scholes Pricing Model
In 1973, Myron Scholes and Fisher Black developed the framework on option pricing and presented
the theory in their seminal paper. With reference to both approach and application the Black Scholes
Model is considered to be one of the most significant concepts in modern financial theory. For valuing
options the Black Sholes Model is viewed as a standard model.
Assumptions
To compute the value of a stock option the Black Scholes Option Pricing Model is used. Both call and
put option can be calculated with the help of the model. For the accurate application of the Black
Scholes Pricing Model it is necessary to be familiar with its assumptions. Black and Scholes specified
the following assumptions in their seminal paper (1973). (Ray, 2012)
I. Constant volatility
Volatility refers to the movement of the stock price whether upwards or downwards. The model
assumes that the volatility does not change and is known to market participants. This implies that the
variance of the return remains constant over the life of the option.
II. No Dividends
The model assumes that the underlying asset (stock) does not pay any dividends during the option s
life.
III. European exercise terms are

The Evolution Of The Internet
Before the conception of the Internet, music was sold wholly as a physical product. The gramophone
record commonly known as Vinyl dominated all music sales up until the 1990s. Vinyl was sold as EPs
(Singles or Extended play) and LPs (Albums Long play). In the 1980s the Compact Cassette exploded
in popularity, invented by Philips in 1962 the compact cassette had been around with little success. In
the 1980s there was a massive surge of high fidelity portable cassette players being sold, most notably
the Song Walkman released in 1979, the compact cassette thrived throughout the 80s overtaking sales
of vinyl LPs. It was in 1982 that the first compact disc was produced (CD),but it wasn t until a few
years later that CDs began to gain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Early 1999 Heavy metal band Metallica discovered that a demo version of their song I Disappear was
being spread throughout the online file sharing website before it had actually been released. This
meant that radio stations were able to access and play the track. Due to this the band filed a lawsuit
against Napster. A month later Rapper and music producer Dr.Dre also filled a law suit against
Napster, this was after a failed attempt in asking Napster to remove his music off the website. After a
year they settled both lawsuits, but this was the end of the dispute with the music industry and
Napster. In 1999 the RIAA ( The Recording Industry Association of America) filed a lawsuit on behalf
of many record labels who felt that Napster was infringing on their copyrights. By 2000 Napster was
ordered to remove any copyrighted music away from its sight and by early 2001 Napster closed down
its online sight as ordered by a judge. The digital music revolution it unleashed has since brought a
once mighty recording industry to its knees ; Many feel that Napster was the sole reason for the
destruction of CD despite the closing of the website, it only paved the way for other models to come
along and find a legal way of streaming music to the public.
In the early 2000 s many streaming methods came about. Pandora Internet Radio Station was
launched, allowing users to create radio channels that were tailored to their own music taste. Pandora
is free to use,

  • 2. What Do You Think Influences Our Dreams Research Paper What do you think influences your dreams? Do you believe that there is a scientific reason behind it? A psychological meaning? Or maybe you believe that they re messages from a divine source? Whatever it is, our subconscious mind behaves rather erratically when presented with a soft pillow, warm milk, and a large number of sheep. The human race has been long since fascinated with the concept that is our dreams. This separate state of consciousness, an alternate reality if you will, has captured the interest of the nation throughout history. Perhaps this is due to the fact that we spend a third of our life in this delusional state; roughly about six years, at the most, of our life dreaming, according to George Bernard Shaw. • 3. Positive And Negative Effects Of The Industrial Age Harsh. Unsafe. Dangerous. These are all terms to describe factories around a decade and a half ago. This was during a time known as the Industrial Age. The Industrial Age, characterized by its advances in technology and increase in urbanization, started in England in the late 1700s and spread to America by the mid 1800s. The changes brought on by the Industrial Age affected the US both positively and negatively. Workers were affected negatively. They had to work in the harsh conditions of the factories where they were overworked and put into dangerous environments. These conditions, however, led labour laws being put into place, changing the US for the better The people working in factories were affected negatively negatively by the Industrial Age. Early factory workers would have workdays up to 14 hours long (Farr). While this was around the same length as a preindustrial workday, the amount of work done within that time changed. Preindustrial workers worked in bursts of energy. Factory workers, on the other hand, had to work nonstop in order to meet demands. A worker as young as 10 years old could have a 16 hour work day with only one break (Doc 1). Even when machines broke and production stopped, workers had to stay in the factory, though these unscheduled breaks were often used for relaxation. These long work days were tiring for adults, but even worst for child workers. Children as young as 6 years old were hired as factory workers. They crawled under machines to ... Rtt1 Task 1 Essays Organizational Systems and Quality Leadership Task 1 It is critical to have an understanding of nursing sensitive indicators in order to provide safe, quality, compassionate and satisfactory patient care. In this scenario, applying restraints to Mr. J, a demented patient with hip fracture seems appropriate. However, it is standard practice that restraints are to be removed as soon as possible, and the patient in restraints may need assistance to change position every two hours. In Mr. J s scenario, there should have been a bedside commode, and a urinal for him to use at the bedside so he does not have to walk very far to the restroom. From analyzing Mr. J s case one can see the correlation between the use of restraints and pressure ulcers. Obtaining data listed on the Braden Scale such as moisture, mobility, activity, and nutrition are important when assessing for pressure ulcer risks. Once the collected data indicates the patient is high risk then the established pressure ulcer protocol needs to be followed. Nurses will need to minimize friction, support bony surfaces, manage moisture, and maintain adequate nutrition to advance quality patient care. The other nursing sensitive indicator in this case is restraints. As I have mentioned earlier the use of restraints in Mr. J s case seems appropriate as he pose great fall risk which may further complicate his current health condition. However, it is important to perform a complete assessment on the parameters for restraint such as cognitive functioning, history of dementia, physical impairment, and drug interactions to determine the need for restraints. When restraint is clinically indicated, and the benefits outweigh the risks then protocol for restraints has to be followed. Once the patient is restrained, it is standard practice that restraints are to be removed as soon as possible, and the patient in restraints will need assistance to change position every two hours. Dennis O Rouke s Cannibal Tours Dennis O Rouke s documentary Cannibal Tours , filmed in 1988, the famous director at the time had much thought in regards to how the civilized tourists diminished the primitives and their culture. Class Conflict And Class Conflicts Class warfare, also referred to as class conflict or class struggle, is a form of social tension caused by conflicting and competing socioeconomic interests between people of different classes (Zinn, 19). Class conflict comes in many forms: direct and indirect violence such as wars, starvation, illness and poor working conditions; ideological, such as the production of articles and books. As such, slavery was seen as natural. This view was held mostly by slaves owners but was also accepted by some slaves. They were ultimately controlled by the institutions and ideals mentioned earlier. The leisure class were also the subject of these ideals. In the current sense of the word a tyrant is pejorative term, applied to an individual in power who is selfish and self preserving. Two types of divergent evolution are demonstrated in Figure 2. One type is called Allopatric speciation; this occurs when a population or group of organisms belonging to the same species, are separated geographically. Over time, the separated groups develop different traits due to environmental differences. In Figure 2a, the grey fish evolved in a lake the receives salt water runoff, they would need to have evolved traits to survive the increased salinity. Sympatric speciation occurs in the populations are not separated (Figure 2b). For some reason the two populations don t mix even though they are in the same environment. Differences in behavior can lead to sympatric speciation. For instance, one population feeds on plants at the bottom of the lake , while the other feeds on insects near the surface. This theme is present alongside with other minor themes like the shift of American culture, and how the characters self centered ways are crush by time. All of the major characters will find themselves at some sort of low point in their lives throughout the novel. Jocelyn becomes addicted to drugs and spends a great amount of her adult life going in and out of rehab; Benny will lose his record label contract and will be seen as a failure by most of those still in the industry; and Sasha will show falling into ruin due to her stealing addiction, self isolation from family, and lack of self love. The same for the story Goodbye, My Love , Ted goes to Italy, and notes the ways Naples is degrading. Basic Equivalent Of The Border Professor Gardner, I combined my answers for question 1 and 3 due to they support each other. * What is the Fourth amendment exception as it pertains to border searches? Describe the functional equivalent of the border? Although the Fourth Amendment protects citizen rights against unlawful searches while it also identifies the specific criteria where probable cause is required, the Supreme Court supports certain circumstances where an exception to policy comes into play. The exception s under border searches grants permission for authorities the sovereign right to stop and inspect people and their property entering into the country without contacting a magistrate, and having to obtain a search warrant before the search, , (Kim, 2009, p.1). Even though searches for contraband are conducted at the physical location of the border where physical barriers and control points are established, the border searches may be carried out at locations other than at the border itself. Kim identifies two lawful concepts of authorized searches; searches at the functional equivalent of the border and extended border searches. Functional equivalent of the border (FEB) is the physical location, usually the initial practical location where people entering the country are temporarily detained and questioned after crossing the initial border or point of entry. The novel initiates the conversation as to if women can achieve longstanding success in regards to their desires through the act of questioning authority despite societal standards. Using Jane as the female protagonist, Brontё delves into how women are wholly capable of championing autonomy and fulfilling female passion if they maintain a certain level of self respect, courage, and humility. Throughout the novel, Brontё puts strong attention to the fiery and courageous nature of Jane s character. Even at the beginning of the novel when Jane is merely ten years old, one can gain insight into just how bold she really is: I am not deceitful: if I were, I should say I loved you; but I declare I do not love you: I dislike you the worst of anybody in the world except John Reed... (Brontё 36). The fact that Jane had the courage at such a young age to question authority proves her to be strong and fearless unlike most of the girls during the Victorian Era. The red planet is a huge topic of debate because scientists believe there is a possibility of life, although this has not been vastly established it has yet to be concretely disproven. Life consists of things that are able to take in energy from the environment and transform it for growth and reproduction, stimulation fosters a reaction like motion, and anything that has life will grow and develop.1 Finding life on Mars is more significant than one might initially imagine, Earth may potentially see an end due to global warming, collision between the Milky way and the Andromeda Galaxy, or many other causations, which is even more reason the human race may need to find a second home. In 2003 another drought struck the Galapagos and as there were many large beaked finches, the food source of nuts dwindled, making the ability to eat smaller seeds an asset. The numbers of larger beaked birds dwindled as food became scarce, leaving the smaller birds to survive and reproduce. Both theories suggest that a species changes over time to be able to better adapt to an environment. Darwin concluded that only the specimen with the mutation or an altered version of a feature to evolve a species as they would be able to adapt and survive easier than those without it, thus causing the unevolved to die off while the evolved lived.
