Birgitta Resvik gave a presentation at the Nordic Conference on Energy Quality Management in Reykjavik about developing new district heating networks in Stockholm that recover surplus heat from various sources. Fortum is creating an "Open District Heat Network" that establishes market prices for recovering excess heat from data centers, grocery stores, and other sources. This recovered heat accounts for an estimated 1 terawatt hour or 12% of Stockholm's annual district heating needs. The network has launched several pilot projects and aims to expand district heating's role in Stockholm's sustainable energy future.
