There are four main forms of dividends paid out to shareholders: cash dividends which are the most common and distributed as currency; stock or scrip dividends paid out as additional shares of stock; property dividends or dividends in specie which are paid out in assets of the company; and other dividends which can include distributing financial assets, warrants, shares of a subsidiary company, or spinning off a new company by distributing its shares.
