Second Generation FLIR ONE for Smartphones Featuring a Completely New LEPTON Core with 160x120 Pixels Resolution and 12µm Pixel Size
After the world’s first consumer thermal camera (FLIR One) in 2014, FLIR just released the second generation of the FLIR One featuring a completely new design and an upgraded Lepton core. The major achievement for FLIR has been to propose, in the same module size, a 4x improved resolution and a better FOV without consuming more power and at a lower cost!
Based on a complete teardown analysis of the new FLIR One for Android and iOS, the report provides a complete physical analysis and manufacturing cost estimation of the infrared camera and the Lepton infrared module as well as the technical choices made for this new generation.
The new Lepton 3 LWIR camera core shares almost the same dimensions than the previous Lepton core but offers a four times improved resolution of 160x120 pixels (versus 80x60 pixel for the Lepton 2). Despite this improvement, it consumes slightly the same power with 160mW versus 150mW. This achievement has been made possible by the reduction of the pixel size, from 17µm to 12µm in the Lepton 3. This new pixel size has been accompanied by new processes for the ROIC, the microbolometer and the wafer-level window with new technology node, new pixel integration with the ROIC and a simplified window which no longer needs an SOI wafer…
On the optical module side, strong efforts have been made to improve lenses resulting in a wider field of view (FOV). The lenses are still wafer-level silicon optics but area has been enhanced thanks to hexagonal shapes compared to square shapes previously.
To finish, a unique comparison between FLIR One 1st and 2nd Generation, Seek Thermal/Raytheon and Opgal Therm-App/Ulis cameras highlights the differences in technical choices and related cost made by each company.

MUSEUM ESSAY
All students will be required to visit the Tampa Museum of Art, the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts, the
Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, or the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota. Students will write a minimum
1500 word research paper (approx. 5 pages in length) based on one artwork of their choosing from the
museum to investigate in further detail. The completed paper is due at the beginning of class on the assigned
due date (see course syllabus for deadlines).
This assignment will require students to a thoughtful analysis based on accepted research as well as your own
developed point of view. Completed essays will be sustained thesis-driven interpretations of a single artwork
based on scholarly research (three sources minimum are required).
When selecting your artwork, pick the one that appeals to you and that you want to further examine. (Keep in
mind that you may want to select an object that has already had significant scholarly research within art
history.) A brief visual analysis of the selected artwork will ultimately support your thesis and lend credence to
your research. Meaning, your discussion of the artist’s selection and use of the visual elements and principles
of design should connect to your broader knowledge of style and pictorial culture, as we have discussed them
in class lecture. Your analysis should also move from description to interpretation as it relates to your central
argument – i.e., the particular qualities of the medium (ceramic, sculpture, painting, etc.) and how this relates
to the artist’s content or culture; how the visual elements found in the artwork reflect (or were affected by)
important cultural values found in the society in which it was made; how the work confronts the human
condition or experience of its culture; the expressive significance of formal elements, spatial design, or motifs
and their interaction; or how the artist has used visual elements to communicate a particular
message/experience to his/her viewers.

A museum exhibition consists of a carefully selected group of art objects that illuminates a specific artistic, cultural, or historical theme. It can explore the development of a single artist’s work (e.g. “The Prints of Albrecht Dürer”), reveal a range of artistic activity from a given time and place (e.g. “High Renaissance Artists in Rome under Pope Julius II”), or chart the depiction of a certain subject throughout history (e.g. “Images of War in the 20th Century”). Much like an academic paper, an effective exhibition makes an argument, using works of art as evidence for its thesis. Furthermore, an exhibition creates meaning through the arrangement of works of art in space. By sequencing works in a certain way, the exhibition’s organizer, or curator, structures the viewer’s understanding of the its subject.
This assignment asks you to create your own art exhibition devoted to a topic of your choosing, consisting of at least four works of art. Unlike your museum paper, this paper does require library research. Your final paper should have the following format:
I. Introductory paragraph: Introduce your reader to your exhibition’s topic. Describe its historical significance (in other words, why was this exhibition worth organizing? what can be learned from seeing it?) and state your thesis.
II. Checklist: Write at least two paragraphs for each work of art in your exhibition. Each entry in your checklist should contain a short formal analysis of the work and describe how it relates to your thesis. Consider how the sequencing of works in your exhibition affects the development of your argument.
III. Conclusion: This paragraph should not simply restate your thesis. What have we learned from your exhibition? What were the consequences of the works you have chosen? How do these works point to future art historical developments?
Requirements
1) Email me ([email protected]) with a potential topic by Wednesday, November 6th. You are not bound to this topic, but it is important to start thinking about this early, so that you can begin searching for sources during our library session.
2) Your research must make use of published sources (i.e. books and journals) and may also include appropriate online material. Best practices for internet research will be discussed in our library session.
3) Your paper must include color reproductions of the works included in your exhibition. Images should be captioned with the following information: artist, title (in italics), date, medium.
4) Your paper must include properly formatted citations and a bibliography. Details on formatting will be discussed either in class or in our library session.

Students will select four objects in the collection to analyze: one (1) from the Geometric period; one (1) from the Orientalizing period; one (1) object utilizing the black-figure technique; and one (1) utilizing the red-figure technique. Pay close attention to each of the object’s stylistic features, describing each element and integrating into your analyses comparisons to object(s) we have studied in the textbook or in lecture from the PowerPoints. Choose a topic that is debatable and has extensive sourcing. Prior knowledge of the event may be useful, even necessary. This assignment will require that you conduct a reasonable search for documentation and support. Start early and keep good notes. Start with an internet and library search. Good pre-writing protocol requires that you take notes as you read and that you document your sources accurately. Develop a thesis statement that is narrow enough to cover in a short (1700 – 2100) word paper and debatable—make a claim of value, fact, or policy.
Choosing a topic:
You may deal with various aspects of the topic: artistic, geo-political, scientific, moral, aesthetic, cultural, social, or economic. The following suggestions on the attached list may help you choose a topic.
You may wish to take a conservative or a liberal stance on a topic. Be sure that the essay is thesis driven. The essay should be developed according to the methods discussed in class and in the textbook. The paper should be 6 - 8 pages. The paper is worth 200 points. Introduction
As mentioned in previous weeks, the Signature Assignment is a comparative analysis of the particular work of art you've picked and your Major at Carrington. This is the final portion of this term long assignment.
Module 5:
The final draft is due.

: This paper will be a part of your ePortfolio, so use it as an opportunity to show your analytical and communication skills.

Module 5: Final Draft (200 Points)
Your Final Signature Assignment is due. This should be a culmination of everything you've completed in Weeks 1, 2, and 3. It will analyze a work of art that relates to your
Major
at Carrington. As you know, the work of art can be a painting, a type of music, a film, or any other type of art we have covered during this course.
This assignment will be graded based on the rubric located on the Course Documents page. To get to Course Documents, click on Pages in the course menu, then click View all Pages, then Course Documents, there you’ll see Final Draft Rubric.
There's also a minimum requirement of 4 outside sources and the paper should be no less than 3 pages in length (you can use the same sources you used in the week 2 Signature Assignment, but please don't include the descriptions)

Module 5: Final Draft (200 Points)
Your signature assignment is due. The student will analyze a work of art that connects to his or her career field. That work of art can be a painting, a type of music, a film, or any other type of art that we have covered in this course.
Grading and Assessment for Signature Assignment Final Draft
The final draft of the paper will be graded based on the rubric provided below.
Student Learning Outcomes: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
1. Given a representation of a work of art (such as a painting, poem, sonata, or cathedral), analyze the work's content, form, materials, meaning, and method of creation to enrich understanding of and appreciation for that work.
2. Given a representation of a work of art (such as a painting, poem, sonata, or cathedral), and a critical interpretation or statement of aesthetics, evaluate the artwork against the interpretation or statement in order to show differing critical and aesthetic perspectives on the artwork.
3. Given representations of two works of art of similar or differing disciplines (such as two paintings or a painting and a poem), compare and contrast their contents, forms, and/or methods of creation in order to identify the scope of the respective disciplines and to clarify disciplinary differences.
4. Given representations of multiple works of art, classify them using a variety of approaches (by discipline, genre, style, period, etc.), in order to demonstrate ability to.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing.
