Jerome M. Mwanzia of the Kenya Forest Service presented on forest restoration efforts in the Enderit/Mau Narok Block of the Mau Forest Complex. The intervention engaged communities to leave forest areas and form a community forest association. Bare land was planted with mixed species, disturbed forest was regenerated naturally, and communities helped protect the forest. The outcome was enrichment planting on 2,500 hectares, mixed planting on 1,500 hectares, and natural regeneration across 15,241 hectares, restoring the forest and river flows and allowing wildlife to recolonize. Lessons learned included incorporating income-generating activities for communities and stakeholder participation for success.
