Personal hygiene is essential for food handlers to deliver safe food. Food handlers should bathe daily, wear clean uniforms, keep nails trimmed and hair short, wear proper head coverings, cover their mouth when coughing or sneezing, not smoke, and wash hands frequently, including before and after eating, using the bathroom, handling equipment or garbage, and touching their body. Proper hand washing helps eliminate germs and should be done before starting work and when switching between tasks.
