I took a new approach with this project, where I thought about what type of room I was making the
shade for, as a person will have different lighting needs for each room, and shades should vary based
on that purpose. Many of the designs I saw were similar in their shape, but it was the decoration that

My Best Days Of My Life
Wednesday, December 16th, or as I like to call it, one of the best days of my life. Is it cliché to call
my first concert experience one of the best days of my life? Probably. But it was just such a surreal
experience. I went to go see The 1975 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California. My best friend
knew that I had never been to a concert before, so on my Birthday she gave me tickets to go see The
1975 as a gift. I had been looking forward to the concert for months, and when the day finally came,
I felt both nervous and excited to go see one of my favorite bands. The 1975 is an alternative
rock/indie rock/pop music band who I had heard of due to another band that decided to cover one of
their songs. The first song I heard was called "Medicine." It was two in the morning and I was
driving to Arizona. Such a beautiful song, something about it was almost therapeutic for me. I fell in
love with it instantly. After my trip to Arizona, I finally had time to do my research. I listened to The
1975's entire discography and they immediately became one of my favorite bands. I was glad that
The 1975 would be my first concert experience ever.

Follow the River Follow The River by James Alexander Thom is about Mary Ingles gruesome but
yet courageous tale of her remarkable 1,000 mile journey home after she had escaped form the
captivity of the Shawnee Indians. Through Mary Ingles hard work and determination she proved that
all obstacles big and small can be overcome.
The book started out with a bloody massacre at Mary Ingles Virginia settlement in 1755. Mary
Ingles was pregnant with her third child and twenty–four years of age when the Shawnee Indians
came and kidnapped her, her two sons, her sister–in–law, and her neighbor. The journey to the

The two courageous women walked through freezing rivers and climbed up small cliffs for forty
days, with hardly nothing to eat since everything was barren because of the winter, overall the two
women walked 1,000 miles. Finally Mary was able to find her husband, but after thirteen years she
was able to ransom for only one of her sons back and her sister–in–law, the other two children were
kept by the Shawnee.
Follow the River had a lot of dialogue leaving the reader with the feeling that they were battling the
Virginia wilderness right along with Mary Ingles. James Alexander Thom used vivid description on
everything that he wrote, he painted the picture for the reader with a myriad of words, and he left no
leaf undescribed in the Virginia wilderness. The only thing that seemed confusing about this book is
that the reader can never figure out where Mary Ingles is , it would help a lot if a map was placed
somewhere in the book showing the trail of Mary and her companion.
James Alexander Thom did seem a little bias in his book. He would call The Shawnee Indians
heathens, he always just looked at the English point of view and never the Indians point of view,
because at this time the reader should be informed that the Indians are being forced to be moved
from place to place by the white man, but I don't believe that the authors intent was to give the
Shawnee Indians a bad name he just wanted to get the point across that some young pioneer

During the spring semester of my junior year at Indiana State University, I had the opportunity to
tutor two second–grade students as part of my English as a Second Language (ESL) minor. These
students were motivated to learn and understand the material being taught. Upon being successful
on a follow–up assessment, the students no longer required services for English learning. I know
this was accomplished through a team effort of teachers, aides, tutors, and administration. It was a

In the book Matched by Ally Condie the main character Cassia changes drastically throughout the
novel. In the beginning of the novel Cassia has been just like everyone else and blindly following
the rules of the society. When she gets matched with her best friend she is so excited, but when she
sees another person on her microcard she slowly starts to see all the flaws of the society and what is
wrong with what they are teaching her. Cassia changes significantly and observably from the

Why People Follow
After completing the two readings, "Why People Follow" and "Salsa, Soul, and Spirit", I now have a
better understanding of leadership techniques that could strengthen communities as well as the
performance of companies. I wasn't very surprised when seeing the four needs of followers from
"Why People Follow": trust, compassion, hope, and stability. I thought that those were all
characteristics that were ideal to any strong and effective leader. Of the four, I felt the most surprise
with compassion. I didn't know how much being compassionate could have a lasting impact to those
that follow you. I thought before that leaders would focus more on instructing their workers rather

For example, in "Salsa, Soul, and Spirit", one of the eight communal policies was about leadership
as a social responsibility, the idea that all leaders should strive to bring equality and justice to
everyone, no matter what race or social status. I found that policy to align with the need of being
compassionate, seen in "Why People Follow". I feel that one needs to truly be caring for the
unfortunate before starting any equality programs. One shouldn't help out others just to get some
public fame. People need to understand the seriousness of income and racial inequality before
heading out and actually leading social responsibility. Another communal policy, generating a
shared vision, also aligns with the need of having hope. During both instances, you as a leader need
to have some direction going before you start leading. You and your partners need to trust
yourselves that you have the ability to move forward and inspire others. Believing that everybody
could would together and get things done builds confidence not only for you but for those around

Not sure what you value most in this life? Not sure where your passions lie? Ask yourself what
advice you would give your younger self, and you will discover some values and passions that you
have and may not even know about.

For instance, I would tell myself to not take things so seriously. Enjoy the ups and the downs.
Appreciate every moment that comes into your life. And, stop worrying about what is out of your
control.
I 've been adopting those habits into my life for a while now, and even though it can sometimes be
hard not to get caught up in the ups and downs of life, my awareness knows that it 's what I need to
do to be happy.
Take your own advice! Remember, it 's never too late to get rid of your limiting beliefs and start
creating the life you want.
