Josh Eastham is presenting on his final major project for 2019. He decided to produce his project as a short film rather than a TV miniseries because a short film better fits the plot and can be fully shown at a screening event for all class projects. He discusses promoting his film through YouTube, creating a Facebook page, and advertising an event where the films will be showcased. Some of his promotion ideas include uploading the film to YouTube and using relevant tags, creating social media pages and groups to share the film, and advertising locally in New Earswick through Facebook groups.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Early research
■ Presenting my final product is something I looked at as far back as my market research phase of my project. When I looked at this I still hadn't
decided on the final format of my production. I was still unsure of whether it would be a short film or aTV miniseries. Despite my research
concluding that serializedTV was probably the best format for a modern audience overall, I've decided that the plot and content of my film would
be more suited to it being done as a short film distributed onYouTube as I am most familiar working in that format and using that distribution
platform. However I will also be looking at other methods such as creating a Facebook page or advertising on Facebook groups to reach a wider
audience. I will have to check the terms and conditions on this however in order to make sure I am not violating any self promotional rules they
may have. My decision to produce this project as a short film works better with the overall plans we have as a class to host a screening event for all
our FMP work.
■ We will be showcasing our films at New Earswick Folk Hall on the 24th June at 6pm. Because of the sheer amount of content that will be shown
the event may be very long and there will not nearly be enough time to show all the episodes of an entire miniseries as well as fit in everyone else's
work. The obvious solution to this would be to just show one episode of the series but then you wouldn't have a complete narrative which
therefore wouldn't get the message across fully this then defeats the entire point of me even producing this film. If it done as a film that is 5-6
minutes in length I would be able to fit the entire narrative in that timeframe thereby staying faithful to my original intentions for making this
project.
3. Promoting My Film
One of my main intentions for this film was to reach the largest audience that I possibly
could in order to get the films warning aboutA.I. out to as many people as I possibly
could. My intitial steps towards doing this was to make the video publicly available on
YouTube as well as including as many relavent video tags as I could. This will make it easily
findable to people onYouTube. As of the 12th July searching the word "calli" brings up me
film as third in the top 3 search results onYouTube. If anyone searches that word for
whatever reason they will hopefully see my film and maybe be enticed to click on it. I am
also taking advantage of social media for promotion. I've created a facebook page that
people can like to specifically host my film. I will also likely be uploading my video
presentation to this facebook page as a kind of "behind the scenes" featurette. I've also
provided some information on our films premier event that we as a class have organised
at New Earswick Folk Hall that way if people see this Facebook page they will also know
the date and time of when the film will be shown.
A good contribution for me to make would be to advertise this event to as many people as
possible in order to make sure that we get a good amount of people interested and
attending. This is were sharing my page or creating a new one and sharing it in facebook
groups would come in handy. Since the event is based in New Earswick then a good idea
would be to see if the villiage has a facebook group for the residents and then advertise in
there. I think that this would be a good idea to do as people that live locally will have less
of a hassle organising transport or dealing with associated costs and are therefore more
likely to attend.
I could consider other social media platforms such as twitter however for that to be
effective then I would need a large following. Unfortunatyl I don't have that so whilst I
could do it it might not make any difference. Word of mouth is another good way to
advertise especially if it is done on facebook. Once thing I plan on doing is asking those
that view it on facebook to share it and for them to ask others to share it so on and so
forth so that eventually it spreads and as much people have seen it as possible.

4. Ideas For Promoting My Film
Here you can see some of the ideas I have brain stormed
when thinking about how I can best advertise my film in
order to reach my intended target audience. As you can
see I looked at both physical print based mediums of
advertising as well as online methods. The reason I
looked at print instead of just online methods is that if I
want to reach as much people as I possibly can then that
may include certain demographics that don’t use the
internet as much such as elderly people. Therefore If they
don't have much of an online presence then print based
or offline media would be a fantastic way to reach them.
This was why I suggested things such as radio adverts or
printing out leaflets. However these are just ideas that
may not be acted on as a lot of these ways of advertising
(including some internet based ones) require payment
the cost of which I can't afford.
Things I will be able to act include things such as uploading toYouTube, Facebook pages, Instagram posters and trailers and shared
twitter links. This is because there are no financial restraints holding me back here. Also I think that using social media would perhaps
be a lot less intrusive then posting leaflets through doors for example. For me it makes the most sense to use Facebook andYouTube
as my main platforms to advertise on as on Facebook I have more followers then the rest of my social media platforms.YouTube is
the ideal place to host my film as that has always been the main website for viewing video's online.
5. YouTub
e
Facebook
Conventions and standards of mediums that I will use.
YouTube is arguably the most popular video hosting website on the internet as well as the most advanced. This means it is the ideal to be the main hosting platform of my
film.YouTube supports super high definition videos as high as 8k video.Although I only filmed in the standard 1080p 4k is quickly becoming the new standard so if I had the
facilities to film in that resolution I would have done andYouTube would still be able to host it. Even though I did only film in 1080p because of the sequence settings that I
used in Premier meant that the final export was in a 1440p resolution. This actually does make a difference even if you are viewing it on a 1080p display as the video is
encoded with a higher pixel density.A handy thing aboutYouTube is that its comments system allows people to comment and give constructive feedback whilst automatically
filtering out spam and abusive behaviour. This will allow me to take notes of the feedback quickly so that I can act on it in future projects.
One other system thatYouTube has in place that could help me promote my film is advertisements via google AdSense. In effect I could create something like a 30 second
trailer for my film, create an AdSense account, pay a fee and then that trailer would appear as an advert on otherYouTube videos. I would also have the option to target
different demographics and types of videos which could help me reach a certain target audience such as Sci-Fi fans if I wanted. The only issue with this is that these ads tend
to be a bit intrusive and people often get annoyed and skip them after 5 seconds. I don't want my film to be notorious for spamming people so I would have to be careful in
order to avoid that.Unfortunately the cost of advertising in this way is also very high which is the only thing preventing me from doing this.
The good thing about Facebook is it is very community based so that If I wanted to find a specific group of people to show my film to I could easily do that but since I want it to
reach as many people as possible Facebooks sharing functions could help a lot with that. I could create a dedicated page for my film then post it to my timeline and ask
everyone to share it and for them to do the same, so on and so forth. If it is shared by enough people then eventually it could become viral enough to spread to many people
some of which would perhaps be outside the typical demographic that would watch this film. Facebook also has a similar advertising system toYouTube in that I could pay for
advertisements or to "boost" my film if I could afford it. Facebook also has a very advanced page creation system were you can create pages with different features and
functions that specifically suit the type of page and what it is for. For example if I were selling something you can set up a bartering system or if I were planning an event
(which we are) I can set up information and ways to purchase tickets as well as contact info/options with automatic responses. Were Facebook is let down is the resolution
that it allows you to stream video in.You only have an option for "HD" or "Not HD" in the form of a button that you can toggle. However it is not clear when you press it if you
are turning HD on or off and it is often difficult to notice a difference in the video quality especially when you are using a mobile device. It is because of this that whilst
Facebook would be a good tool for promotion I won't be using it to replaceYouTube as the primary method of hosting my film.
Instagram primarily is a photosharing platform. That makes it great for me to post promotional material such as posters or behind the scenes photos. Instagram also provides
many different filters as well as a basic photo editor so that I can make any last minute tweaks to these images before I post them. Since my personal acount is set to private I
would have to make a new acount probably a business one so it isn’t set to private.A good way of gaining followers and attention to these instagram posts would be through the
use of Instagrams hashtagging system. If it was a new acount it would have no followers and as a result no one would see the posts. That is unless I hashtag them. If they are
hashtags they will appear on a feed of other photos with the same hashtags and if people are browsing those feeds they my see my posts and their interests may be peaked. In
order to get this to work I will have to use hashtags that are relavent to the topic of my video such as: #artificialIntelligence for example. Instagram also has a short video feature
which I could use to publish something like a 10 second teaser that people would just quickly see when scrolling through their feed.

7. New Earswick Screening event
As a class we have organised a screening event at New Earswick Folk Hall for our films. I
wanted to get involved and help promote the event as it is very important for a film like
mine were it is trying to get across a message to people. It also helps others promote their
films as well and get people to watch them. This is something we would all like as we have
all put so much effort into our projects and the payoff is being able to watch people enjoy
them. I feel like I have an obligation to do my bit for this and since the actual organisation
of the event had been done working on promoting and advertising it to get people to
attend seemed like a good thing for me to do. I decided to create a facebook page as they
have a really good system for advertising events. I added neccasary information such as a
brief description of the event, notices on things like parking and information on wether
you could bring children or not as well as date/time and location. I also contacted one of
my other classmates that had been designing posters for this event and asked them if it
would be ok for them to send me them so I could use them on the page. He agreed and so I
put them up there.
Once I had done this I tried sharing a video to the page that was a preview of some of the
films we had produced that another one of my classmates had put on facebook.
Unfortunatly due to the privacy settings on that post I am unable to share it to the page. I
messaged him asking if he would change those settings but he has yet to respond. The day
previously in lesson he did actually give the the original file to the video and gave me
permission to upload it myself to the page. However I hit some unexplained technical issue
were facebook wouldn't let me post the video. I had uploaded it but the post button was
grayed out for whatever reason. I did check through the pages settings on video's being
uploaded to it but there were no settings enabled that suggested this type of thing would
get blocked. I was also doing this whilst logged in as page admin so this was clearly not the
issue. Never the less I decided that the page was ready and began inviting people to like it
which a number of people have accepted. Others have declaired the interest in going to
the event and some have even shared the event or page.
