Colour grading
These two colour schemes are interesting because for the most part they clash as to the meaning of each
colour, for instance red can mean danger (depending on the context) and blue, particularly a dark blue is
generally used to represent a form of trust. On the other hand red can also be interpreted as a meaning of
affection, this can also contrast with a dark blue which can also reflect depressing thoughts. Brighter colours
like a light pink can also represent positive thoughts and emotions and feelings of hope, contrasted with
darkness that usually represents feelings of fear and helplessness. I want to be able to use these to create a
direct contrast in my film between the ideals of brighter colours and the darker ones, the darker blue and
blacks can be used to represent my protagonists fractured mind. The brighter colours can be used to
represent the illusion of happiness that my character is under.
Location was initially difficult to figure out,
however after searching around on google
maps I have figured out a path through York
that would be good to shoot my film, the
characteristics that make this a fitting place to
shoot are that York is a built up area and so it
creates that tense feeling of being surrounded
by the buildings, the urban environment goes
a long way to support the idea that my
protagonist is a working class citizen as many
working class citizens prefer to live close to
their place of work due to lack of transport.
But built up areas also allow for greater use of
varied camera shots and greater levels of
suspense due to the fear of the unknown as to
what is round any corner of the urban
environment, but also simply because my
story requires it to be set in a built up area for
the story to play out as required, my character
is going to be trapped in an alley for the end of
the film. However filming in York will create
some issues, the main one will be lack of
filming space, York is a busy city and it will be
difficult to find any space to film without
getting in the way of commuters and others in
the city, as a result the best way to go about
this would be to organise filming at a time
when most people and cars aren't out on the
street, aka early in the morning or late in the
evening. I will also have to check the locations
I'm planning to use before hand to make
sure that it's not too busy so that I can film
there, there may also be circumstances where
I can't use the location at all because it's
private property. I may be able to request
permission to film in these locations, however
under the circumstance that I can't do this I
will have to find a location I can film in as a
substitute.
Random Encounter
Random encounter is a café in York that I want to use as the area for the start of my film, this
because since my last visit to the café for a previous project, not only is the café bright and
colourful and so will serve as a valuable filming area for the start of my project, but it has also
recently gone under renovations which means an updated appearance, this however meant
that over the past week and possibly next the café will be closed due to these renovations,
with this being the case I will have the hold off filming there until it is ready. In addition to this
the café is incredibly popular and visited by many people in the city, this means that I would
have to arrange a specific time to visit when it isn't busy, perhaps nearer to closing time or
when the café has just opened for the business day. But the overall aesthetic of the café and
it's location in relevance to everything else in city is very convenient and so this would be a
good place for me to start filming.
9 Gillygate, York YO31 7EA
York railway museumIn the event that I am unable to use the random encounters café as my place of filming then I
will contact the York railway museum to see if I can use any location of their museum as a
place for filming, this would be the second most optimal location for filming as it is indoors,
has a adequate space for filming, and is a public location that doesn't require a fee to enter
unlike the York art museum which would have been my original option due to it's close
proximity to my original desired filming location, however if I do film at the railway museum
then I will have to map a different route for my actors to go as otherwise the route will be too
short for the full duration of my film.
LEEMAN ROAD
YORK YO26 4XJ
costumeMy characters clothing's are majorly
going to rely on mise en scene in order
to communicate to the audience the
motivation of each character, clothing
colour has always been a method used
to communicate to the audience who is
good and bad. One of the most popular
uses of this is in the film series 'Star
Wars', characters such as Obi-Wan
Kenobi use brown and white clothing
which would convey to feeling of good
and hope, whereas Darth Vader
uses black leather and an ominous mask
that creates a deep breathing effect. This
immediately tells the audience who is
good and who is bad, I want to be able to
use the same tactic in my film convey
which character has malicious intent, in
this case I want one character to wear
bright clothing of any colour and another
character wearing darker clothing.
The mask that I want my antagonist to
use has the same function as many
masks, it does a good job of
dehumanising the person wearing it by
not allowing us to see their face, so
we're left to question if there's a
human at all underneath it. My movie
will also have a lot of distanced shots
with many different people in them, if
my characters wear these distinct outfits
however then it will allow them to stand
out from the rest of the crowd which will
be crucial for the recording of my film.
props
Laptop/phone: This object will just be something for the character to interact with to make it
look like they're busy doing something at the start of the film.
Mentos: or some other object that can substitute for looking like pills or some kind of tablets, it
doesn't matter too much on what I use in that regard but I do require some kind of blank white
bottle to put them in without the brand label on.
communication
Some of the shots that I want in my film are going to require me to film the performers in
locations significantly further away than usual, making talking/shouting and inefficient form
of communication in the city, as a result I should find some way of communicating with them
at larger distances. The best way I can think of doing this would to use portable radios to
communicate with them, however if this fails we can just use our phones but this will be
costly due to spending money on calls.

Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Actors unable to show up on the day Either reschedule or have backup performers
Bad weather Check the weather in advance to make sure
I am filming on a day with good weather
Equipment malfunction Check all equipment works before taking it
off of college grounds
Camera battery dying Bring a spare battery on the day to make
sure I don’t have to cancel shooting to a
later date
File corruption/loss Backup files on separate devices and only
work off of one device to ensure files aren't
corrupted between computers
Transportation issues Pre-arrange it so that transportation to the
location of filming is both available on the
day and will get me there on time.
Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Trip hazards Setup equipment in a way that the wires
between devices do not obstruct any paths for
the public or ourselves
Shock from computers Check the computer for any faulty wiring or
other problems that could lead to shock before
using it
Back injury sustained from not sitting right at
the computer
Adjust the seat to the right height for myself,
then adjust computer to make sure it is at eye
height.
Possible injury from equipment Check the equipment for any malfunctions, be
careful when handling heavy equipment and
retract gear correctly to prevent injury to
others
Possible high stress levels sustained from
deadlines etc
Plan production time and use it accordingly
to make sure everything is completed on
time
location Don't try filming in any locations that may
pose any kind of serious threat of harm to
us.

But built up areas also allow for greater use of varied camera shots and greater levels of suspense due to the fear of the unknown as to what is round any corner of the urban environment, but also simply because my story requires it to be set in a built up area for the story to play out as required, my character is going to be trapped in an alley for the end of the film. However filming in York will create some issues, the main one will be lack of filming space, York is a busy city and it will be difficult to find any space to film without getting in the way of commuters and others in the city, as a result the best way to go about this would be to organise filming at a time when most people and cars aren't out on the street, aka early in the morning or late in the evening. I will also have to check the locations I'm planning to use before hand to make sure that it's not too busy so that I can film there, there may also be circumstances where I can't use the location at all because it's private property. I may be able to request permission to film in these locations, however under the circumstance that I can't do this I will have to find a location I can film in as a substitute.
  • 5. Random Encounter Random encounter is a café in York that I want to use as the area for the start of my film, this because since my last visit to the café for a previous project, not only is the café bright and colourful and so will serve as a valuable filming area for the start of my project, but it has also recently gone under renovations which means an updated appearance, this however meant that over the past week and possibly next the café will be closed due to these renovations, with this being the case I will have the hold off filming there until it is ready. In addition to this the café is incredibly popular and visited by many people in the city, this means that I would have to arrange a specific time to visit when it isn't busy, perhaps nearer to closing time or when the café has just opened for the business day. But the overall aesthetic of the café and it's location in relevance to everything else in city is very convenient and so this would be a good place for me to start filming. 9 Gillygate, York YO31 7EA
  • 6. York railway museumIn the event that I am unable to use the random encounters café as my place of filming then I will contact the York railway museum to see if I can use any location of their museum as a place for filming, this would be the second most optimal location for filming as it is indoors, has a adequate space for filming, and is a public location that doesn't require a fee to enter unlike the York art museum which would have been my original option due to it's close proximity to my original desired filming location, however if I do film at the railway museum then I will have to map a different route for my actors to go as otherwise the route will be too short for the full duration of my film. • 7. costumeMy characters clothing's are majorly going to rely on mise en scene in order to communicate to the audience the motivation of each character, clothing colour has always been a method used to communicate to the audience who is good and bad. One of the most popular uses of this is in the film series 'Star Wars', characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi use brown and white clothing which would convey to feeling of good and hope, whereas Darth Vader uses black leather and an ominous mask that creates a deep breathing effect. This immediately tells the audience who is good and who is bad, I want to be able to use the same tactic in my film convey which character has malicious intent, in this case I want one character to wear bright clothing of any colour and another character wearing darker clothing. The mask that I want my antagonist to use has the same function as many masks, it does a good job of dehumanising the person wearing it by not allowing us to see their face, so we're left to question if there's a human at all underneath it. My movie will also have a lot of distanced shots with many different people in them, if my characters wear these distinct outfits however then it will allow them to stand out from the rest of the crowd which will be crucial for the recording of my film.
  • 8. props Laptop/phone: This object will just be something for the character to interact with to make it look like they're busy doing something at the start of the film. Mentos: or some other object that can substitute for looking like pills or some kind of tablets, it doesn't matter too much on what I use in that regard but I do require some kind of blank white bottle to put them in without the brand label on.
  • 9. communication Some of the shots that I want in my film are going to require me to film the performers in locations significantly further away than usual, making talking/shouting and inefficient form of communication in the city, as a result I should find some way of communicating with them at larger distances. The best way I can think of doing this would to use portable radios to communicate with them, however if this fails we can just use our phones but this will be costly due to spending money on calls.
  • 12. Contingency Planning Potential Issue Solution Actors unable to show up on the day Either reschedule or have backup performers Bad weather Check the weather in advance to make sure I am filming on a day with good weather Equipment malfunction Check all equipment works before taking it off of college grounds Camera battery dying Bring a spare battery on the day to make sure I don’t have to cancel shooting to a later date File corruption/loss Backup files on separate devices and only work off of one device to ensure files aren't corrupted between computers Transportation issues Pre-arrange it so that transportation to the location of filming is both available on the day and will get me there on time.
  • 13. Health and Safety Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided? Trip hazards Setup equipment in a way that the wires between devices do not obstruct any paths for the public or ourselves Shock from computers Check the computer for any faulty wiring or other problems that could lead to shock before using it Back injury sustained from not sitting right at the computer Adjust the seat to the right height for myself, then adjust computer to make sure it is at eye height. Possible injury from equipment Check the equipment for any malfunctions, be careful when handling heavy equipment and retract gear correctly to prevent injury to others Possible high stress levels sustained from deadlines etc Plan production time and use it accordingly to make sure everything is completed on time location Don't try filming in any locations that may pose any kind of serious threat of harm to us.
