3. ACKNOWLEDGMENT
I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my
teacher Mr. Prajwal Prasanjeet as well as our principal Mrs.
Lipsita Mohanty who gave me the golden opportunity to do
this wonderful Art Integrated project on the states of Odisha
and Maharashtra, Secondly i would also like to thank my
parents and friends who helped me a lot in finalizing this
project within the limited time frame. This opportunity helped
me improve my research skills and helped me learn new things
about the state like administration and governance, etc.

5. Dams
A dam is a barrier that stops or restricts the flow of water or
underground streams. Reservoirs created by dams not only suppress
floods but also provide water for activities such as irrigation, human
consumption, industrial use, aquaculture, and navigability. Hydropower
is often used in conjunction with dams to generate electricity. A dam
can also be used to collect water or for storage of water which can be
evenly distributed between locations. Dams generally serve the primary
purpose of retaining water, while other structures such as floodgates
or levees (also known as dikes) are used to manage or prevent water
flow into specific land regions. The earliest known dam is the Jawa
Dam in Jordan, dating to 3,000 BC.

6. Dams in Maharashtra
With so many rivers flowing through Maharashtra, no wonder
there are numerous dams present in the state.. These dams are
used to store water so that the towns and villages nearby can
make good use of its water. Some of these dams also have
hydroelectric power plants. Apart from these uses of the dams,
they even attract a large number of tourists because of the
beautiful scenic views they offer. River Bhima, River Godavari
and River Mula are a few rivers flowing through this state.

7. Hydro-electricity
Hydro-electricity is electricity made by generators that are
pushed by the movement of water. It is usually made with
dams that block a river to make a reservoir or collect water that
is pumped there. When the water is released, the pressure
behind the dam forces the water down pipes that lead to a
turbine. This causes the turbine to turn, which turns a generator
which makes electricity. This renewable energy method makes
about one sixth of the world's electricity. It produces less
pollution than the fires of steam engines do.

8. Hydro-electricity in MAHARASHTRA
In our country, the total potential for generating electricity
through small hydro power projects has been identified at
15,000 MW. In Maharashtra alone, this potential stands at
732.63 MW of which projects with a capacity of 292.525
MW have already been installed by water Resources
Department. MEDA has taken an initiative to set up such
small hydro power projects in the inaccessible tribal areas

10. Conclusion
The purpose of this Art Integrated project is to show a
comparative study of geographical status and
environment of Odisha and Maharashtra with refrence to
thier water resources, dams, Hydro-electricity power
stations, etc.
It is concluded that Maharashtra has a highly effective
and efficient use of thier resources with modern
technology and engineering in thier dams and Hydro-
electricity power stations.
