 Andhra Pradesh to develop infrastructure in 31 cities
The government of Andhra Pradesh has applied to the Union Urban Development Ministry for assistance
of INR 28,756 crore to develop basic infrastructure - water supply, sewerage, urban transport and green
spaces - under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), in 31 cities over
the next five years. Improving urban transport would include building 336.50 km of pathways at a cost of
INR 178.10 crore, 232 km of cycle tracks at INR 11.50 crore, 215 km of BRTS (Bus Rapid Transport
Systems) corridors at INR 702 crore and procurement of 710 buses at a cost of INR 376 crore. Total
investments in urban transport is estimated at INR 1,998.88 crore and another INR 673.12 crore is the
outlay for water supply projects and development of parks, while developing sewage is pegged at INR
6,814.85 crore.
 NSAC ready to take off
The Shipping ministry’s National Sagarmala Apex Committee (NSAC) is ready to be launched. The
Sagarmala project will promote development along India’s 7,500 km long coastline. The key purpose of
the project is to support port-led direct and indirect development. It aims to provide quick, efficient and
cost-effective infrastructure to transport goods to and from ports. As per the plan, the government aims
to develop 30 projects in the present fiscal year at a cost of INR 14,226 crore. The outlay for the
implementation of the project in 2015-16 is estimated to be INR 692 crore.
 Ken-Betwa river link may to be temporarily shelved
The INR 9,393 crore, Ken-Betwa river interlinking project in Madhya Pradesh is likely to be shelved for
now as it will negatively impact the Panna Tiger Reserve. Observations made by the Expert Appraisal
Committee could delay getting green clearances for the project that would submerge 5,258 hectares of
forest land. The project involves the construction of a dam across river Ken in Chhatarpur district in
Madhya Pradesh to irrigate 6.35 lakh hectare of land. Apart from the 221 km long Ken-Betwa link canal,
the project also includes two power houses of 2x30 MW and 3x6 MW each, a 1.9 km long upper level
tunnel and a 1.1 km long lower level tunnel. The project was allotted INR 100 crore in 2014-15.
 Neeranchal gets government nod
The National Watershed Management Project (Neeranchal), funded by the World Bank at a total outlay
of INR 2,142.30 crore has been approved by the government. It will be implemented both at the national
level, as well as in some states such as Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya
Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Telangana, to enhance irrigation facilities. The government
will bear 50 percent of the cost at INR 1,071.15 crore and the balance would be the loan component from
the World Bank. The programme will lower surface rainwater runoff, increase recharge of ground water
and improve availability of water in rain fed areas.

2.  Skywalk to link Taj Mahal with Agra Fort
A skywalk in Agra has been proposed which will link the Taj Mahal to the Agra Fort. The Uttar Pradesh
tourism department has already started work on the project at an estimated cost of INR 50 crore. This
facility will help tourists to avoid the fast moving traffic between Taj and Agra Fort. The skywalk will be a
round structure, built 25 feet above the ground, and will be connected by escalators and stairs. An
environment friendly, tree shaded stone pathway will be constructed. Ahmedabad-based International
Centre for Sustainable Cities will prepare a detailed project report, which will be funded by the World
Bank.
 DMIC to safeguard smaller positions development
The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) is going to have a positive effect on smaller locations
around the nodes which will assist in meeting urbanization demands of the country. The urban centers
which would profit in the first phase of DMIC are Noida, Greater Noida, Gurgaon, Manesar, Jaipur. A,
total of 24 nodes have been designed along the entire length of DMIC, and once all the phases are done
many jobs will be created as well.

 Paradip Port secures INR 1,438 crore for capacity expansion
Paradip port has secured approval for Mechanisation of East Quay (EQ) of Berths 1, 2 and 3 to increase
their capacity from the existing 7.85 million tonnes to 30 million tonnes at an expenditure of INR 1,438
crore. Of the amount, the concessionaire will receive INR 1,412.76 crore and the remaining INR 25 crore
will be spent on dredging. The project is scheduled to be completed within three years from the date of
award of concession. Pradip port is one of the prime ports of India serving eastern and central parts and
mainly deals with bulk cargo. The port has expansion plans to increase its capacity up to 270.50 million
tonnes by 2023 to meet the increasing demand.
