Quetzal is known as the specialized fruit eating bird. Quetzals are small and loud but fascinate
many with their brightly colored feathers and body (WWF). As a defense mechanism, the Quetzal
will use its green body to blend into the green forest background. Quetzal s are omnivores. Their
daily diet is typically fruits and drinking water from bromeliads, but occasionally feast on insects,
lizards and frogs (WWF). Preferring to live high up in the trees, they nest themselves right in the

Igor Stravinsky, a Russian Composer
Igor Stravinsky is known as one of the most important and influential composers of the twentieth
century. Igor was born in Lomonosow, Russia on June 17, 1882 to Anna Kholodovsky and
Fyodor Stravinsky. When Stravinsky was only three he witnessed a musician at a Russian fair
singing, clicking his tongue, and making armpit noises. Igor was so excited to go try it at home.
This was one of Stravinsky s first memory of music. Igor s childhood was not a good memory for
him. He felt hated and neglected. Igor recalled that his schooldays no one had real attraction for
him and he was always lonely. The only thing that got him through it was music and his piano
lessons. In 1890, Igor heard his first orchestral performance The Sleeping Beauty. He was
awestruck at the grace of the piece. That performance fueled his interest in music even more.
When he was fifteen, he had mastered Mendelssohn s Piano Concerto in G minor. Stravinsky
also finished a piano reduction of a string quartet by Glazunov, who allegedly thought that Igor
was unmusical and considered him to have poor skills. His parents saw how much he loved
music but didn t want him to pursue it as a job. They enrolled him in the University of Saint
Petersburg in 1901. Stravinsky was told to become a lawyer. Vladimir Rimsky Korsakov, son of
composer Nikolai Rimsky Korakove, was a fellow student at Saint Petersburg. Igor s father died in
