Explication Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
The Road Not Taken hole poem was about the roads that represent idea choosing paths of life.
The first stanza of the poem had one road that was not taken. And sorry I could not travel both
/ And be one traveler, long stood . (2 3) It indicated that he could not travel both roads because he is
one traveler. As he stood, he looked down at one of the roads as far as he could. However, walking
on during a fall day in the forest remind him of choice that he made. He was reconsider of his
choice. This roadwas compared to his life adventure, curiously, mystery and excitement. The

The cognitive behavioral therapy helps them to rationally think about situations when in panic
mode and to effectively remain calm through their panic. In exposure therapy they are exposed to
panic in a controlled environment where the patients can learn safe and healthy ways of coping.
Medication therapy is important. Antidepressants are giving for long term therapy and take a few
weeks to start working, so that is when the benzodiazepines come in. They act quickly and are
given to give rapid relief to symptoms during a panic

Tragic Events In Edgar Allan Poe
Each event in one s life whether important, meaningless, joyful or sickening has an impact on
that person s character. Harrowing tragic events occur often as it was for Edgar Allen Poe which
left a vast impact on his character. This author s stories focus on his wretched life and obstacles
placed in the forms of stories. His unfortunate events turned into eerie, emblematic tales such as
The Raven , The Black Cat , The cask of amontillado more which all have twisted plot lines such
as horror, sadness, revenge etc. Death was a main factor in not only the life but the stories of
Edgar Allan Poes. The raven was based off the death of his wife. Poe fell in love with his cousin
at a young age and got married while she was 13 and he was 27. Yet otherwise tuberculosis is
what killed Virginia when she was 24. Thus leading into poe s biggest lows in life as he took on
his alcohol abuse problems. The ravens setting is at a man s house when a raven appears on his
door and flies in. The raven continuously repeats one line through the entire story Nevermore .
This more so taunts this man who is already in a depressed state. Reminding him that he will
never get to retrieve what he has lost forever. This going back to the death of his wife and how he
will never get her back. During the lines of the story comes the word Nepthene. Nepenthe is
known to be a mythical drug that can take away memories or in this case his grief and pain
(Shmoop Editorial Team). The nepenthe would

Those in Poverty Impact Society as a Whole Essay
Surviving in a world where money matters is not easy at all. Try living on less than a dollar and
fifty cents a day. Go into a store and look for food enough for three meals that has enough
nutrients for a balance diet all under a budget of $1.50. Fresh fruit and vegetables along with
meat are out of the question, then what are the options? There really are none except a few
canned and dried goods. There are people who live on this on a daily basis. The amount of people

inflation. When adjusted for inflation, the highest federal minimum wage was in 1968, when it was

Research Paper On Aspartame
There has been many debates on whether aspartame is good for us or not. In the 1960s James
Schlatter, a chemist working for the G.D Searle company, was working on creating a cure for
stomach ulcers and accidently tasted it off of his fingers (Evangelista, n.d.). Little did he know
that his cure would become a popular artificial sweetner in America. The chemical additive
consists of, phenylalaine and aspartic acid, two amino acids, as well as methanol (Wells, 2011).
Aspartame is popular for people who want to lose or maintain a healthy weight. Since it is 200
times more sweet than actual sugara lot less calories are needed in order to have the same sweet
taste (International FoodInformation Council Foundation, 2011). Aspartame is found... Show more

After it was studied three times by independant scientists, it was determined to have a high
chance of inducing brain tumors (Evangelista, n.d.). 74 out of 166 investigations regarding
aspartame are sponsored by aspartame industries. All of the 74 studies claimed aspartame was
safe and most of the ones who weren t supported financially mentioned issues with the safety of
this additive (Zimmer Chiropractic, 2016). It shows how although many organizations support
the chemical additive and many researches have been conducted and support aspartame, we
should also consider analysises which prove aspartame is not safe. Aspartame is a type of
excitotoxine, which excites the brain cells so much they quickly die. This chemical plays a major
role in degenerative nervous system diseases such as Parkinson s and alzeihmer s (Lant, 2015). An
experiment has also been conducted on seven infant monkeys. They injested milk and aspartame
only. After 300 days, one of the seven monkeys died, five of the same seven monkeys had grad mal
seizures. The results of this experiment were hidden from the FDA when G.D Searle submitted the
inital applications (Evangelista, n.d.). Many medical effects have been known to be caused by
aspartame such as; dizziness, seizures, headaches, certain cancers and birth defects (The Healthline
Editorial Team, 2015). In short, people have cheated the system into accepting a chemical that is
not healthy. That is morally

Eleanor Conflict
During High School a teen goes through a lot of conflict with many different people. Eleanor, a
character in the book Eleanor and Park , is a great example of what some teens are going through
today. Eleanor is forced to sit next to Park, a kid that reads comics and listens to punk, on the
first day of school. They both could not be any more different. It also doesn t help that she is
over the average weight and is made fun of at school for her looks. And with Eleanor struggling
with her home life and her step dad Richie, Park becomes a safe spot for Eleanor. Richie is very
protective of what goes on in his house so when he finds out about both of them together, it s not
good. But Eleanor eventually finds a way to deal with everything and leave some things behind.
The first example of how Eleanor grows is a result of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One piece of evidence that supports this is when Eleanor and Park first meet. Eleanor is
struggling to find a seat on the bus. As the bus driver is yelling at her to sit down, everybody on
the bus is staring at her. A couple of people in the back are bickering about her and making fun.
But eventually Park unwillingly lets her sit down next to him. Eleanor couldn t tell if the Asian
kid who finally let her sit down was one of them, or whether he was just really stupid (Rowell11).
Eleanor is confused as to why Park let her sit down. She wonders if he is one of the bullies based
on how he yelled and sweared at her to sit down. Or, if he is just really dumb. This shows that
Eleanor grows as a result of conflicts with Park because she develops a feeling for Park. It may
not be a good feeling or good first impression, but he is the only one that let her sit down. A
second piece of evidence that supports this is when Park gives Eleanor a comic for the first time.
They were both sitting on the bus

The Importance Of The Evolution Of Sexual Selection
As a result of sexual selection, many male animals have evolved extraordinary structures, usually
used as ornaments for attracting females, or weapons, for fighting mating rivals (Douhard et al.,
2017; O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; McCullough and Emlen, 2013; Emlen, 2008).
The diversity of these structures is usually extremely high (both intra and interspecifically) and
have existed in many animal groups, including extinct trilobites and dinosaurs, to beetles, birds and
hoofed mammals (ungulates) found today (O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; Emlen,
2008; Emlen et al., 2005; Emlen, 2001). Although both ornaments and weapons will increase
mating opportunities for males, the mechanisms shaping the evolution of... Show more content on

This bias is likely influenced by the appearance of horns in many female bovid species as well as
caribou, the only female cervid to evolve antlers, possibly as anti predator defences, a result of
natural selection (McCullough et al., 2016; Stankowich and Caro, 2009; Emlen, 2008; Bro
JГёrgensen, 2007). Although investigating beetles, McCullough et al. (2014) determined weapon
morphology to be more effective against species typical fighting, with sexual selection through
male male competition enhancing horn diversity. Only relatively more recently, have effects of
male male competition, within ungulates, to the diversity of horn morphologies received
increased attention, despite such studies being present within the field for over 50 years
(McCullough et al., 2016; Bro JГёrgensen, 2007; Caro et al., 2003). The evolution of horns within
artiodactyls is thought to have arisen independently at least three times, with a change in habitat
from closed to open woodland and at a crucial body weight of around 15 18kg, which is thought to
influence territorial defence by males (Janis, 1982). As a result, many investigations on horn
morphology diversity among male bovids and cervids has been completed to environmental factors,
scaling relationships of body mass and social variables that may

Jainism is one of the oldest practicing religions, although, today Jainism appears in its present day

and Hinduism. In the beginning, however, the Jains prayed to the Hindu gods mainly for earthly
support like a male heir, long life, and prosperity. Jainism can be trace its beginnings to the Indus

This may cause some wonder since it is looked down to not limit one?s possessions, although they

Jainism earliest descriptions were thought of being a self centered search for personal salvation
without having a personal God. Jains do not believe in one creator or God. Heinrich Zimmer, an
expert on Indian Philosophy, states, ?Jainism is Tran theistic it does not deny existence of God
but that it goes beyond them.? (A 352) Others see it?s as a search for personal growth and a sense
of higher personal ethics. Jainism is founded on the goal of overcoming the temporary cycle of
earthly life in addition to be released from an endless cycle of existence. Human destiny was the
center of Jain teaching. They were to rely on themselves to seek that which will save them from the
domination of matter, this being moral elevation. Above all, Jainism is a religion of love and
compassion, with an eternal universe. They have made significant contributions in logic, art, and
architecture, grammar, mathematics, literature, philosophy, astronomy, and astrology.
Jainism was distinguished for their extreme practices, even to the severity of death by self

toward moral perfection by means of nonviolence. They especially avoid harming any living

The Generation Of The Workforce
There are five generations in the workforce, each unique and with similar characteristics as the
others (Noe, 2017):
Traditionalists/ Silent Generation, born 1925 to1945
Baby Boomers, born in 1946 to 1964
Generation X 1965 to 1980
Generation Y/Millennials/Echo Boomers, born in 1981 to 1995
Generation Z/Digital Natives, born in 1996 and on
For many years, many organizations focused on aging workforce issues; however, the shift is
moved to trying to manage a multigenerational workforce (Cekada, 2012). Many Baby Boomers
are still working with Obama Care, they are working to pay for Affordable Health Care costs and
prescriptions. With the Baby Boomers about to leave the workforce, there are steps that an
organization must take to keep the baton of knowledge from leaving with them. First is to assess
the training needs; second, set up a budget to meet the needs; third, choose between Traditional or
Technology based method to deliver the required training.
First, an organization must assess their training needs to set up a training program that s effective
and foundational. A training needs assessment is used to determine whether training is the right
solution to a workplace problem (Cekada, 2010, p. 28). Data must be gathered continually to
determine what training needs must be met and develop a plan to accomplish the organization s
objectives because training program is a costly expense for employers. Training needs assessment

Copyright And Copyright Of Copyright Essay
The first thing for a web site owner to consider when publishing web applications is copyright.
To protect the originality of a web site owner s work , copyright is important issue. Basically, if
someone violates one of the five exclusive rights given to copyright owner by the Copyright Act ,
it is considered as a copyright infringement. These include the right to reproduce a work, the right
to develop derivative works, the right to publicly display the work, or distribute copies3. Copyright
protection is related with following elements :
пЃ¬The text of the site
пЃ¬The pictures on the site
пЃ¬Any clips of videos on the site
Using graphics is one of the important hallmarks of some popular web sites such as Microsoft s
Internet Explorer logo . In addition, text on a web site is also important part of copyright. This is
because plagiarizing text from third parties without permission is illegal like images do. To be
more specific, copyright is an especially essential issue in several web sites of search engines
such as Yahoo and Bing, and Google. In the case of both Yahoo and Bing, they are good at dealing
with copyright infringement by disabling accounts who repeatedly infringe other s copyrights .
And, Yahoo particularly takes care of listening consumers complaints if there are any wrong
copyright infringement reports6. However, Google automatically lower ranking of a particular
web site in the search results list if they have a high number of removal notices regardless of

Bernie Sanders official campaign website boasts proudly of the candidate s stance on workers
rights. American socialism historically holds links with American mass labor. Socialism migrated
to the American continent with the immigrants of the nineteenth century. With the progress of
industrialization, immigrants both climbed the economic ladder and labored in the newly created
factories and stores, a level of economic diversity the senator likely finds grossly unfair. * Due to
deplorable labor conditions in certain industries, socialist voices gained an audience. Eugene Debs,
founder of the Socialist Party in America and its many time candidate for president, made this

Dreams Project (EDP) is for 3 years. Typically girls pursue their graduation while being a part of
this project. Almost all girls that I have interacted during the course of this study were a part of the
EDP.
Methodology
I initially wished to conduct the study on the basis of informal interactions of interviews. Prior
experience had taught me that it is rare that participants of the study are extremely comfortable
answering a lengthy questionnaire. Therefore I wanted to do away with the questionnaire. But
senior employees of Akshara made me realise that it might not be such a bad idea to get a basic
understanding of the issue through a questionnaire. Therefore I kept the questionnaire as the last
thing as part of the methodology. I had undertaken informal interactions then had gone into full
fledged interviews and then administered a questionnaire.
It was however, the informal interactions that taught me the most. I was glad that I could meet
both sections. There are several girls that I interacted with but many of them have not filled out the
questionnaire. Of the 30 40 girls that I did meet only 22 of them have filled out a questionnaire. Of
these 6 of them are from female headed households. Almost 95% of the gilrs in teracted

Essay about The Lincoln Assassination
John Wilkes Booth, born May 10, 1838, was an actor who performed throughout the country in
many plays. He was the lead in some of William Shakespeare s most famous works. Additionally,
he was a racist and Southern sympathizer during the Civil War. He hated Abraham Lincoln who
represented everything Booth was against. Booth blamed Lincoln for all the South s ills. He
wanted revenge. In late summer of 1864 Booth began developing plans to kidnap Lincoln, take
him to Richmond (the Confederate capital), and hold him in return for Confederate prisoners of
war. By January, 1865, Booth had organized a group of co conspirators that included Samuel

Booth arrived at Ford s at about 9:30 P.M. Joseph Burroughs, a boy who worked at the theatre,

s rights, safety, health and advocate for the patient. By treating the patient in an open area, invades

Measure For Measure
Measure for Measure is often described as a problem comedy because the themes and tones that
are presented in the play do not share the same optimistic themes and tones of Shakespeare s
previous comedies. The familiar formula that classifies Measure for Measure as a comedy are

Shakespeare s other comedies, marriage is not a form of punishment but rather a goal for the
couples to satisfy their mutual yearning for each other, and their communities demand for clear
kinship structures...to legitimate members of a new generation (Maus 2040). For Claudio and
Juliet, their union becomes official when the Duke orders them to be married. As for Angelo
and Lucio, marriage is a punishment. Angelo is ordered to marry Mariana by the Duke after the
bed trick of Mariana posing as Isabella is revealed to Angelo and that since he was already
betrothed to Mariana, the marriage is consummated. As for Lucio, he has to marry Kate
Keepdown, a prostitute who he shares a child with. For him he explicitly says marrying a punk
[prostitute] is pressing to death/ whipping or hanging (5.1. 515 516). Since the view of marriage

Risk Management and Contingency Planning
Project: A case of manufacturing, delivery and installation of a large power transformer.
1.INTRODUCTION
A project to manufacture, deliver and install a large power transformer is time and resource
(material and labour) consuming, relies on services and products provided by more than one
supplier, involves multiple expertise, and costs tens of millions of Rands. If a transformer fails,
the cost of rectification can go as high as over 70% of the price of a new one. By so saying, risk
management and contingency planning plays a key role in the management of such a project. In
this report, the need and process of risk management as well as the types of risks in relation to the
power transformer project are discussed.
2.PROJECT ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like in many other projects, the basic concerns in the power transformer project are schedule and
costs, while continuously ensuring that the product meets required specifications and performance
any deviation to what is planned constitutes a risk. In practice however, things do not always go
according to plan and therefore risk management is needed to ensure that chaos does not prevail.
The point that Kippenberger (2000) is making in his article titled there s no such thing as risk
free project is that almost everything we do in a project involves a risk of some kind by so
saying, it is therefore essential that we are prepared or able to deal with risks. Most literature
puts emphasis on the negative connotation that the word risk carries. For instance, Chapman and
Ward (2003) provide the meaning of risk as: hazard, chance of bad consequences, loss, and
exposure to chance of injury or loss. Galway (2004) defines risk as an event which is uncertain and
has negative impact, and similarly, Martin (2008: 38) defines risk as the chance of something
occurring that has an adverse effect on the project . This negativity highlights the fact that problems
can occur or things can go wrong and it is therefore important to have a systematic approach to
managing them. Therefore in project management, risk management is necessary to increase the
chances of the proposed project succeeding.

Analysis of the Article The Flip Side of Internet Fame
CONTEMPORARY COMMUNICATIONS THE NARCISSISM CONNECTION Introduction In
her 2008 article, The Flip Side of Internet Fame, Jessica Bennett explores some of the problems
created by the nature of the Internet in connection with the consequences of publicly released
information in the digital age. She details the account of a teenager whose life was affected very
adversely by someone else s choice to post an embarrassing video of him without his permission.
She also outlines some of the problems attributable to the fact that information posted online is not
subject to any filter for accuracy, fairness, or appropriateness. Public posting forums allow the
publication of defamatory statements about others with much fewer protections afforded by laws
applicable to other types of injurious and untrue communications about others. The issues raised by
Bennett illustrate that the Internet is still in its infancy in terms of how it is best integrated into
society and regulated by the same ethical, social, and legal principles as traditional forms of
communications. It is likely that the solution lies, not in the evolution of regulations or in
limitations on free speech; rather, the solution is likely to evolve naturally as subsequent
generations develop a better and more nearly comprehensive understanding of how to integrate their
offline and online identities in ways that maintain their privacy. Meanwhile, the deeper explanation
of the contemporary digital communications

The Isolation Of Women During The Victorian Era
1.This quote goes back to the concept of isolation and independence. Here just like in the
beginning of the book, Jane feels isolated and alone and feels like no one can help and ironically it
is her cousins who alienated her to begin with but now are bringing her in.
2. Another clear reference to gender equality and the lack of it as well as a comment on class roles.
Here Bronte shows the absurdity of gender restriction and attempts to shed light on the fact that
women during the Victorian era had no rights and were too restricted.

then let it pass round my shoulder: being so much lower of stature than he, I served both for his

metaphorically blind and used to support her, the opposite has just happened and now Jane leads
the actually blind Mr. Rochester and supports him because now she is rich.
2. Bronte addresses the reader personally which signifies that something important is about to
happen, and it does. Jane and Mr. Rochester have switched roles. Jane now can see while now
Rochester can t. This perfect role reversal emphasizes how it is possible to reach gender equality
and how someone from a lower class can actually work their way up and get lucky and end up in a
higher class while the opposite can happen to

Robin Hood Creed Quotes
Robin Hood Essay There is a legend that contains an outlaw named Robin Hood, who is also
mainly known for his skill in archery. In the movie, The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), he
leads a group of people named the Merry Men, who are all outlaws. They fight to steal from the
rich and give the stolen money to the poor and helpless. As the Normans believe that the Merry Men
are all bandits, they are more like knights in the eyes of the Saxons. They follow their own code
that is similar to the Knightly Code. They act upon the creed they swore upon, remembering that
they must defend the weak, grant mercy to enemies, and deal honorably with opponents in battle.
One knightly code that the Merry Men present was defending the weak and helpless. When an
order was given to hang certain people by Prince John, the Merry Men went to each and every
public execution to save each person before they are hanged. The people that were to be hanged
are obviously weak and helpless, but the Merry Men could have cared less. They could have let
them die without bothering and risking their lives to save helpless people that are not important to
them. Another example was when Robin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Impact of Advertising on Perceived Gender Roles
The role and function of advertising is a debatable one. Most would argue that since it is not
intended to be a governmental aid in ensuring and creating opportunities for equality, we are unable
to expect such efforts to be made within this industry. Advertisers have the job of selling, to
persuade and increase consumption as to satisfy the capitalist s pockets. The play on social injustice
often associated with this particular industry makes it relevant to question it though. Male
dominance in this area is evident, but are we not even to view men and women as equal in terms of
being potential consumers?
As illustrated by Spurlock and this piece of research, it is extremely difficult to not involve
advertisement in vocabulary and certain approaches to societal understanding. The present branding
culture is apparent and it is close to impossible to not have an opinion regarding this matter, which
incidentally causes discussion and debate, which in turn furthers the word of mouth usage of brands.
The impact of advertising on perceived gender roles is quite evident, and with plenty of
consequences, some of which we might not yet have experienced the full effect of. It is important
to remember that with a socialized consumer identity, the choices we make are not individual ones,
but is initiated by the manipulative skills of others . The high extent of advertisement we are put
through on a daily basis makes it very difficult to reflect upon the idea of choices and individual

Tracking Population Movements With Mobile Phone Network Data

Movements with Mobile Phone Network Data: A Post Earthquake Geospatial Study in Haiti
AUTHOR(S) OF ARTICLE: Linus Bengtsson, Xin Lu, Anna Thorson, Richard Garfield, Johan
von Schreeb PURPOSE OF ARTICLE: This article was about research conducted on movements
and disbursement of populations after the earthquake and cholera outbreak in Haiti in 2010 and
how the movement of populations after a sudden disaster can impede response and actually
increase the mortality rate. Research was conducted, using subscriber identity module cards, or
SIM cards, of the population of the affected disaster zone to research the movement of people
after the earthquake struck. TOPIC: The topic of this research article was whether or not the use
of SIM cards was a viable way to measure and track disbursement of populations after a disaster
occurred. MAIN CONCLSUION: The main point that can be taken from this article is that this
cellular data taken from SIM cards can be used, with success, to track population disbursement
after a disaster strikes. It can allow emergency personnel to dispatch to the areas where the injured
or stricken population have traveled to, instead of setting up posts only at the place stricken. It can
also give more specific estimates to the population that could not disperse and were present during
the event. They also found that this method using technology can possibly be used for the

Improvisation Theatre History
Improvisational theatre, often called improv or impro, is the form of theatre, often comedy, in
which most or all of what is performed is unplanned or unscripted: created spontaneously by the
performers. In its purest form, the dialogue, action, story, and characters are created collaboratively
by the players as the improvisationunfolds in present time, without use of an already prepared,
written script. Improvisational theatreexists in performance as a range of styles of improvisational
comedy as well as some non comedic theatrical performances. It is sometimes used in film and
television, both to develop characters and scripts and occasionally as part of the final product.

History The earliest well documented use of improvisational theatre in Western history is found
in the Atellan Farce of 391 BC. From the 16th to the 18th centuries, commedia dell arte
performers improvised based on a broad outline in the streets of Italy. In the 1890s, theatrical
theorists and directors such as the Russian Konstantin Stanislavski and the French Jacques
Copeau, founders of two major streams of acting theory, both heavily utilized improvisation in
acting training and rehearsal. Modern Modern theatrical improvisation games began as drama
exercises for children, which were a staple of drama education in the early 20th century thanks in
part to the progressive education movement initiated by John Dewey in 1916. Some people credit
American Dudley Riggs as the first vaudevillian to use audience suggestions to create improvised
sketches on stage. Improvisation exercises were developed further by Viola Spolin in the 1940s,
50s, and 60s, and codified in her book Improvisation For The Theater, the first book that gave

The Technology Of The Home Appliance Market
The ThermoWave is the newest advancement in the home appliance market, a device with the
capabilities to both heat food and beverages as well as cool them. Comparable in design to a
common countertop microwave, the ThermoWave has dimensions of 18 x30 x20 for our household
version. The ThermoWave comes in a stainless steel finish and is operated through a traditional
touch control numerical pad. Controls on the device allow for heating, cooling, defrosting, thawing,
as well as options for specific items such as poultry, beef, and popcorn. Our company has chosen to
market this appliance in department stores, discount retailers, and online. The ThermoWave is
priced at $159.99, which we feel is a fair market price for the devices capabilities and production
costs. Environmental forces that affect our product and company include: competitive,
technological, legal/regulatory, economic, and sociocultural. The environmental forces are
important because they are the influences behind the market and consumer buying. Lower
unemployment and inflation coupled with the current state of recovery that our country is in are all
positive forces for our company, while lower spending on appliances is a concern for us. Our
competition includes companies such as General Electric, Whirlpool, and Samsung, all titans of the
appliance industry. Though currently the ThermoWave is the only product of its kind, we are
expecting companies to emulate our product in the near future. Social media and the

Why Computers Don T Belong In The Classroom Summary
As the technology advances, more utilities become available to us that make our lives easier. This
correlates to the short essay Why Computers Don t Belong in the Classroom by Clifford Stoll.
Stoll argues that the high usage of technology in schools gives students the incentive have weak
thinking skills and not focus in class. I agree with the argument of Clifford Stoll as the usage of
technology simply motivates students to procrastinate, rely heavily on online resources and lose
interest in class activities. Technology provides a distraction for students as they would rather
watch TV or play video games. Clifford Stoll argues, If kids watch too much TV, why bring
multimedia video systems into schools. Stoll implies that the schools are allowing students to
expect some sort of multimedia in their classes. Showing videos during class may help some of the
visual learners, but most students consider this as a free time and not focus. Furthermore, Stoll
states that teachers show videos during class due to their lack of information. In this case, the
teachers should prepare beforehand and keep the students interested.... Show more content on

Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard
I seem to have lost my sight : Nobility s Privileged Blindness in The Cherry Orchard
In Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard, Lyubov Ranevsky loses her estate because she is
unwilling to resort to commercializing it and renting it out. Ranevsky tells Peter Trofimov, You
see where the truth is, and where untruth is, but I seem to have lost my sight and see nothing...
because you re young, because you haven t had time to suffer... You boldly look forward, isn t it
because you cannot foresee or expect anything terrible, because so far life has been hidden from
your young eyes? (167). However, in the play, Chekhov attributes the nobilitys blindness to the
romantic, superficial aspects of their lives as members of the upper class. They hold on to their
memories of the old social order, refusing to accept the inevitable reality that the Cherry Orchard
must be sold. Ranevsky and her brother, Leonid Gaev, represent the blindness and backwardness of
the aristocracy. They see the cherry orchard from a nostalgic, romanticized perspective and remain
stuck in their old, superficial habits. The cherry orchard represents the old Russia where class was
tied to land ownership and ruling over serfs. Ranevsky and Gaev stubbornly cling to the past. They
are unable to look towards the future and face the fact that the cherry orchard must be chopped
down. When she sees the orchard, Ranevsky exclaims, Oh, my childhood, days of my innocence!...
nothing has changed (149). She is wrong; Russia is

The Sea Wolf Sparknotes
The Sea Wolf In the novel, The Sea Wolf, by Jack London, there is an abundance of conflict of
drama. This book shows us the true power of corruption. A seal hunting schooner is ruled by a
evil man named Wolf Larsen who rules like a sovereign nation. Throughout the book, the
protagonists experience much death at the hand of Wolf Larsen. He acts like an animal because
he acts on his survival instincts and only cares about survival. The crew on the ships has to
become savage to survive. This is the story of Humphrey Van Weyden who had to learn this the
hard way and use all his survival instinct to overcome the adversity he faced. Even though he is
the main character, we are showed the vile presence of Wolf Larsen throughout the book. We see
how brutal and merciless he treats his crew and how he has no respect for humanlife. He represents
the word evil in every way throughout the book. This is why I believe Wolf Larsen is a evil
person on the outside and at heart. Since the beginning of the book, we can see how Wolf Larsen
acts. We are introduced to him as a puzzling character who seems like a touch and reckless
person. When Van Weyden says that working the schooner is easy work, Wolf mocks him and
says, Strain! Simple as A,B,C! Mathematical certainty! (London 1). After that, we see Wolf when
he rescues Van Weyden from the ship crash. Van Weyden automatically assumes that since they are

The Importance Of Beat Literature And Culture

Beat Literature and Culture
ENG317
The penchant for innovation and experimentation, so apparent from lifestyle to literacy form, was
born of a desire to reinvigorate and indeed revolutionize American culture. How accurate is this
assessment of Beat literature and culture?
The beats became a popular literary movement in the 1950s and 1960s when writers who shared a
distaste of American virtues of progress and power began experimenting with their writing styles
trying to revolutionize American culture. The Beat movement appeared in three major locations,
San Francisco s North Beach, Los Angeles Venice West and New York City s Greenwich Village.
Jack Kerouac one of the most documented about Beat writers is credited with defining the term
Beat Generation. In an interview Kerouac described the word beatific as down and out, characters
of a special spirituality who didn t gang up but were solitary Bartlebles staring out the dead wall
windows of our civilisation. Beat writers expressed their opposition from conventional society
through their works by using themes like drugs and sex and at a time after World War II people
wanted normalcy however at the time materialism and conformist careers were at the forefront. As
well as this at that time college students began to question the actions of the American society
which the beats took advantage of. Beat poets also wanted to liberate poetry from these
conformists and bring it back to what it was supposed to be; which

Difference Between Punk And Pop Punk
American musician and singer songwriter of the Ramones, Jeffrey Ross Hyman, known to the
public as Joey Ramone, once said To me, punk is about being an individual and going against the
grain and standing up and saying This is who I am (BrainyQuote). Punk has been present in music
since the 1960s, where it was starting to form in the garages of starting out musicians that did not
have any regulations to follow, simply because of the fact they didn t know the rules of music.
Most of this early punk music was unadulterated and often political, showing the thoughts and
feelings of the writer (Cooper). Meanwhile, about a decade later in the 1970s, a new style of punk
was forming. Combining elements of punk and mainstream music styles established a new genre of
music, commonly known today as pop punk(B.). While pop punk music branched off of punk, they
both have their distinct features of what makes them unique. Although the two genres share the
same artists, there is a distinct difference between the styles. Songwriter, actor, and singer and

deformities often experience. Due to the inferior mentality, race, and class in society in which
Mary Shelley lived, the creature s unappealing physical appearance played an immense role in the
abandonment he experienced; to this day, physical appearance still plays a huge role in society.

However, the disease is not what causes the physical deformities; it is actually the treatment
segment, chemotherapy. Chemotherapy drugs are powerful medications that attack rapidly
growing cancer cells. Unfortunately, these drugs also attack other rapidly growing cells in your
body including those in your hair roots (Mayo Clinic). Chemotherapy induces hair loss in
women more often than men (WebMD). Along with Cancer and chemotherapy, Dwarfism can
also cause deformities to a person s physical appearance. Dwarfism is a short stature that results
from a genetic or medical condition. It can generally be defined as an adult height of 4 feet 10
inches (Mayo Clinic). Whenever someone with dwarfism is out in public they probably tend to
feel a sense of not fitting in due to their size and the way they look. They are judged on their
physical appearance much like the creature in Frankenstein

Taking a Look at a Whooping Cough
What is Whooping cough?
Whooping cough is a bacterial upper respiratory infection that leads to episodes of violent coughing.
The disease got its name because of the characteristic sound that is made when affected individuals
attempt to inhale; the whoop originates from the inflammation and swelling of the voice box that
vibrates when too much air comes in when one breathes after coughing. (Medline plus) Whooping
cough is a very contagious disease. It spreads through close contact that includes a transferring of
oral secretions or respiratory droplets from one person to another. So it s easily spread through the
cough, especially when people are in close contact, like living in the same house with a person
who has whooping cough. It can also spread through sneezes or anything that causes a secretion of
respiratory fluids. (CDC) the people whom can be affected are children who have not been
immunized or people whose last shot of the immunization was done ten or more years previously.
There is evidence that suggests the first outbreaks I whooping cough occurred in the 16th century.
The bacterium that causes the infection was not found until the beginning of the 1900 s.
Why target whooping cough?
Whooping cough is most commonly found in infants. If a child were to obtain whooping cough
within the first three months of his or her life, the infant is highly likely to be killed by the
disease. The reason for this is because of how difficult it is to identify. It starts out

Anaacond Unity Of Command During Operation Anaconda
Unity of Command during Operation Anaconda Unity of command is defined as all forces operate
under a single commander with the requisite authority to direct all forces in pursuit of a common
purpose. (Doctrine for the Armed Forces of the United States, 2013, p. V 1). Combined Joint Task
Force (CJTF) Mountain only had tactical control of some of the organizations involved and due to
United States Central Command (CENTCOM) not being centrally located this caused delays in
decision making. Even though lessons learned from Operation Anaconda has help facilitate unity of
command for future operations; unity of command was a newer concept that the Armed Forces had
not fully operated under.
Leading up to Operation Anaconda Prior to the building up of forces for Operation Anaconda, the
command structure was set up that CENTCOM was working with two subordinate commands.
Those commands were Coalition Forces Land Component Command (CFLCC) and Coalition
Forces Air Component Command (CFACC). CFLCC and CFACC were both staged in the Persian
Gulf and were set to offer support to any operation in Afghanistan from there. Task Force (TF)
Dagger was the only ground force located in Afghanistan. (TF) Dagger consisted of 5th Special
Operation Forces (SOF) and Central Intelligent Agency (CIA) operations. During the build up and
planning of Operation Anaconda, elements of the 10th Mountain Division Staff were deployed into
the CENTCOM s area of responsibility. While doing their

A Slave By Solomon Northup Essay
The name of the book that brought several to tears, but gave us all hope was Twelve Years a
Slave by Solomon Northup. This book was written in 1853 and has been republished in several
editions. It s thought of to be a memoir and a slave narrative by Solomon Northup himself. In
1984, PBS created a movie referred to as, Solomon Northup s Odyssey, that was directed by
Gordon Parks and 2013 there was a movie product of the book that was directed by Steve
McQueen. There are several arguments that are realize throughout this book concerning why
Solomon needed to write his book telling his story. The reason Solomon Northup wrote this book
was to bring the treatment of slaves to the frontline. He wanted to express the reality of slaveryand
what it was like to be a slave. He strived to teach people that were blinded from slavery within the
North of how slave was in the South. Solomon decided to give an account of him being a slave
and the way African Americans were being treated within the southern states. Solomon wanted
others to see that slaves were people that grew weak and tired also. By reading this book I saw that
this was an experience of a naГЇve man. This book was in great detail and was ordered by
Solomon North s encounters while being a slave. He was able to think about all of the points he
believe was necessary enough to inform the world. This book is also inspiring as a result of most
slavery books that were written by ghostwriters. Many other slaves couldn t tell their

Understanding Diversity
For my leadership rubric I choose diversity. Understanding the diversity of a group is essential to
creating a productive organization. Each person brings a history, culture, and a set of beliefs that
shaped them into who they are now. These differences should be celebrated, because differences
are what help organizations accomplish positive change. The way I approach leading is heavily
focused on how I treat my followers. This is why I focus on understandinghow each one is unique.
Understanding diversity is an important concept that I try to consider when working with a group.
After considering the diversity rubric this is my evaluation on how I currently preform. In addition

I grew up not being as exposed to the world of diversity. This is why I decided on level three,
questioning and self exploration. At this point I am aware of all the information that I lack on
certain subjects. Because of this revelation I actively search out information about race, religion,
sexual orientation, gender spectrum and general opinions over commonly discussed issues. I
believe that in this globalized world people do need to become more aware of the differences in
people in order to embrace humanity as a whole. The next step to becoming more culturally aware
is to continue to gather more information. On the other hand Garrett was more generous and
decided that I am in level five, validation of diversity. He believes that I already have enough
understanding of different beliefs and practices. He describes how I take other people into
consideration when working with and talking to others. I appreciate his insight into how he views
my knowledge of cultural awareness. Before I am willing to agree with Garrett I know that there is
more information to know. I will agree with Socrates when he says One thing I know is that I know
nothing .
When interacting with others Garrett and I both agree that I fall into level five, validation. I support
the ideas and concepts that others add to the discussion based on their different backgrounds.

Film Noir Analysis
With its tone and specific style, Film Noir has become one of the prominent elements that helped
shape the American cinema. Within film noir, drama, romance, thriller, and crime are the main
genres that can be seen in noir films. From all this amalgamation of genres, the topic of whether
film noir is a genre or not does seem interesting, but it is particularly the themes and the style that
seems to generate this conversation. Film noiritself can be seen as more of a film movement than a
genre.
Paul Schrader mentions how it presents a specific period of film history, portraying the world of
dark, slick city streets, crime, and corruption. If this were to be about genres, this description would
generally belong in the crime category. Noir ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These include cars, cafes, offices, and trains, and the films would typically come up with public
places in order to emphasize how crimes can happen to anyone at any time and place. The intro
of Robert Siodmak s 1946 film The Killers places two hitmen in a diner with a customer and two
workers, and the intensity ensues right when the hitmen warn them of their violence, until Swede
is killed. In Detour, the cafГ© was presented as a place of reflection for the main character, but
The Killers presents it as a more dangerous place. The movie does not start straight from the diner,
but the outdoor area just right outside the diner, and that establishes the tone and the state of that
part of town, with obscure lights, silhouettes of the hitmen, night setting, and fog. Even in such a
confined space like a diner, certain imagery like the hitmen and their guns would elicit feeling of
intimidation and tension from the rest of the characters and also the audience, especially when one
of the hitmen hides behind the window and sticks his gun out, just in case Swede enters. The
imagery of places and characters thus reminds the viewers that the outward appearances are not
what they actually seem, and one would have to look deeply to understand the full

Domestic Mission Board Research Paper
In 1845, a group of men met in Augusta, Georgia to organize the Southern Baptist Convention, to
promote Foreign and Domestic Missions and other important objects connected with the
Redeemer s Kingdom, among Baptist churches in the South. Part of the strategy to promote
domestic missions was to create the Domestic Mission Board which would be located in Marion,
AL with the initial delegated tasks of developing and executing religious education for blacks in
the South and to aid the present effort, to establish the Baptist cause in the city of New Orleans.
During its infancy, the Domestic Mission Board had difficulty retaining its key leaders. Basil

March On Birmingham
On top of the different fundraisers going on in 1963, there was also an event called the March on
Birmingham in Alabama. Since public facilities were not being desegregated like the hope that they
had in Georgia, they needed to make a change and show what they wanted. The campaign that was
planned in Birmingham to make a change had planned demonstrations, boycotts, sit ins, marches on
the city hall, and even sending high school students to jail. Martin Luther King, and many other
activists wanted to be able to desegregate the lunch areas in downtown, they wanted blacks to be
able to have fair jobs, allow both whites and blacks to attend the parks, desegregate public schools,
and avoid charges against people who were demonstrators during this time. While gathering people
in the black community to participate in the fundraisers and campaign in Birmingham, the
musicians helped by providing songs within meetings, which helped to inform others about the
events, encourage the people to be strong and fight for what they wanted, gain support and rally
people for the boycotts, and they even sang and played to celebrate with the people. The events
during this march on Birmingham caused many violent attacks and sent a lot of activists... Show

Comparing Calculus 3 And Differential Equations
I have been very blessed in my life by excelling in school. Although I do very well in my classes,
there are a couple classes that I have had to work twice as hard in. To be specific, I have had to
work exceptionally harder in math and science. Most of my friends would be surprised to hear
that I have to work so much harder in these classes. Many of them know that I am in Advanced
Placement classes, so they automatically assume I am naturally gifted in all subject areas and that
the course matter comes easily to me. I am actually in the highest math class offered at my school, a
combination of Calculus 3 and Differential Equations. This course is two grade levels higher than

I go to my teachers and ask them questions about different lessons. I also have had to study more
for these specific classes. For example, one thing I do that is quite different from many students
is that I make my own quizzes and tests to study for Calculus 3 and Differential Equations. Many
of my friends say I am crazy for putting this amount effort into it, but I believe that it has truly
helped me do well on quizzes and tests. Additionally, I look up numerous educational videos on
YouTube and Khan Academy to get a different way of obtaining more knowledge on certain
subjects. I do this exclusively for AP Biology. My AP Biology teacher gives us review books for
the AP test, so I often take the practice tests and look at the answers to see if I know the
information. All of these tactics have helped me immensely. Although I eventually understand
the content, I do have trouble applying the information. I can know how to do a Chi square test
with fruit flies as well as how to do triple integrals, but knowing when exactly to do them is quite
difficult for me. For both of these classes, I also form study groups with my friends to review
material. It is very beneficial because we help each other with different concepts. Math and science
will always be challenging for me, but I am working hard to do

The Death Of My Mother
When I was a child, I dreamt about being a doctor helping others. I knew at the early age of 7

changed my mind about what I wanted to do with my life. I told myself that I would do
whatever it took to help bring justice for families that go through what I went through with the
death of my mother. As I was going through college I realized that criminal justice wasn t for me

Schick Razors Advertisement Analysis Essay
In a Game Informer magazine, I have found an advertisement for a Schick razor. The line of
pictures of bald men caught my eye, so I had to take a minute to see what this advertisement
promotes. Schick razors continue to rise as one of the most popular brands of razors for men and
women. You can find their advertisements virtually anywhere. This particular advertisement is for a
newly designed razorwith a curved front, making it easier to get a close shave. Schick targets the
male populations with this advertisement. This advertisement has two pictures. The first shows
four large, boldly framed pictures of professionally dressed, aged bald men hanging on the wall.
Underneath of these pictures, three younger men set in white chairs lined up against the same
wall, fidgeting with things. Another young man sits in a chair facing to the side, separated from
the others by an end table, looking up at the pictures hanging on the wall. All the young men look
sharply dressed and all have full heads of styled hair. In the top corner, it says interview starts in
15 minutes . The second picture shows the same scene, except the man sitting in the chair facing to
the side, has shaved all his hair off. Him and an older bald gentleman, who has just entered the
room to call someone back for an interview, exchange... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the men, trying to figure out why the all sat there and why one guy had a bald head so quickly
so I didn t even see the razor. I had to look a little to finally realize what the advertisement
promoted. If I plan to buy something based off an advertisement, I do not want to have to solve a

Harriet Jacob And Phillis Wheatley
Harriet Jacob and Phillis Wheatley, Incident in the Life of a Slave Girl and On Being Brought
from Africa to America both presents the existential conditions of being a black woman in a male
dominated society. Despite their years span differences, both author present different, yet similar
views of enslavement in America where black women struggle to reclaim their humanity and seek
freedom within their society. For both Harriet and Phillis, both women used literacy as their voice
to raise concern for the plight of enslaved African Americans, more specifically the women.
For both Harriet Jacob and Phillis Wheatley, their authority comes through narration in establishing
the authenticity of their character and their, which becomes a significant aspect in both Incidents in
the Life of a Slave Girl and On Being Brought from Africa to America. Both the narrative and poem
challenges the literacy framework in which their work reflected. From the beginning, Phillis and
Harriet identify their social identity as young African American women forced into slavery. Harriet
begins her narrative and states, I was born a slave; but I never knew it till six years of happy
childhood had passed away (1). Her narrative focuses on the horrendous conditions in which slaves,
especially women slaves endured at the hand of their white masters. Although it fits with the
framework of a melodramatic style that also copies resemble elements of romantic novels, Harriet
works outside the framework, but

Synopsis (I)
Many of the international alliances being formed today are still too young for us to evaluate
their full impact. The case of Xerox and Fuji Xerox gives us a unique opportunity to trace the
evolution of such an alliance over a long period of time. We can learn a lot from this experience,
and try both to avoid Xerox s mistakes and copy Xerox s success.
2
While this case is about a particular type of alliance a separate enterprise owned by Xerox and
Fuji Photo Film it also contains elements of other types of alliance. The relationship between Xerox
and Fuji Xerox, for example, is itself managed through a series of technology and marketing
contracts, organizational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1. Performance and the alliance before 1990 Evaluation of success Measure of the success Success
measure vs. success factors Key success factors Transition
11
An effective question with which to begin the evaluation of the alliance is: What was the role of
Fuji Xerox in Xerox s global strategy before 1990?
12
Key points
1. Fuji Xerox enables Xerox to sell in the Japanese market, as the government requires a joint
venture as that time. This point highlights the role of the government policy in alliance strategies.
2. Because Fuji Xerox was driven by the needs of the Japanese market, it developed capabilities
and products that were different from those of its American parent, and that later turned out to be
valuable. Simply put, it developed small copiers, while Xerox ignored this segment.
13
3. Later on, Fuji Xerox provided Xerox with a window on the Japanese competition their
technologies, the features they were working on, their strategies, and so on. Due to contacts
between engineers and general publicity in Japan surrounding new products, Fuji Xerox would
learn about new developments long before they were embodied in exports to U.S.. 4. Fuji Xerox
benefited directly from the technologies being developed in related industries in Japan, just as its
local competitors.
14
5. Fuji Xerox also helped Xerox learn new management approaches, I.e. Total Quality Management.

A Brief Look at Quantum Optics
Quantum optics tells us that left (l) and right (r) circularly polarized (CP) photon conveys integer
spin angular momentum, +в„Џ and в„Џ, respectively, although photon is massless elemental
particle. The nature of integer spin obeying Bose Einstein statics makes plural spins confine in an
ultrasmall temporalspace with the same quantum state, meanwhile, half integer spinlike electron
denies to share the same quantum state in a molecular space, well known as Pauli exclusion
principle. Intense CP photonacts as an energy source that preferentially generate optically active
substance from prochiral substances and/or to preferentially decompose one enantiomer from
racemic mixtures. On the other hand, weak CP photon is used as a probe to detect substance
chirality in the ground and photoexcited states, known as circular dichroism(CD), optical rotation
dispersion (ORD) and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) spectroscopy.1 Knowledge and
understanding an efficient generation and reversibility of optically active substances from achiral
precursors in the absence of chiral chemical influence has long been a challenging subject among
chemists and scientists. This approach called absolute asymmetric synthesis (AAS) is beneficial to
avoid multiple step synthesis that often require designed catalysts and specific chiral chemical
sources with high ee.2 So far, several AASs have been employed, including spontaneous symmetry
breaking crystallization, vortex stirring,3f 3h

Igor Stravinsky, a Russian Composer
Igor Stravinsky is known as one of the most important and influential composers of the twentieth
century. Igor was born in Lomonosow, Russia on June 17, 1882 to Anna Kholodovsky and
Fyodor Stravinsky. When Stravinsky was only three he witnessed a musician at a Russian fair
singing, clicking his tongue, and making armpit noises. Igor was so excited to go try it at home.
This was one of Stravinsky s first memory of music. Igor s childhood was not a good memory for
him. He felt hated and neglected. Igor recalled that his schooldays no one had real attraction for
him and he was always lonely. The only thing that got him through it was music and his piano
lessons. In 1890, Igor heard his first orchestral performance The Sleeping Beauty. He was
awestruck at the grace of the piece. That performance fueled his interest in music even more.
When he was fifteen, he had mastered Mendelssohn s Piano Concerto in G minor. Stravinsky
also finished a piano reduction of a string quartet by Glazunov, who allegedly thought that Igor
was unmusical and considered him to have poor skills. His parents saw how much he loved
music but didn t want him to pursue it as a job. They enrolled him in the University of Saint
Petersburg in 1901. Stravinsky was told to become a lawyer. Vladimir Rimsky Korsakov, son of
composer Nikolai Rimsky Korakove, was a fellow student at Saint Petersburg. Igor s father died in
1902. His death was a major cause for Stravinsky to become more

  • 5. Tragic Events In Edgar Allan Poe Each event in one s life whether important, meaningless, joyful or sickening has an impact on that person s character. Harrowing tragic events occur often as it was for Edgar Allen Poe which left a vast impact on his character. This author s stories focus on his wretched life and obstacles placed in the forms of stories. His unfortunate events turned into eerie, emblematic tales such as The Raven , The Black Cat , The cask of amontillado more which all have twisted plot lines such as horror, sadness, revenge etc. Death was a main factor in not only the life but the stories of Edgar Allan Poes. The raven was based off the death of his wife. Poe fell in love with his cousin at a young age and got married while she was 13 and he was 27. Yet otherwise tuberculosis is what killed Virginia when she was 24. Thus leading into poe s biggest lows in life as he took on his alcohol abuse problems. The ravens setting is at a man s house when a raven appears on his door and flies in. The raven continuously repeats one line through the entire story Nevermore . This more so taunts this man who is already in a depressed state. Reminding him that he will never get to retrieve what he has lost forever. This going back to the death of his wife and how he will never get her back. During the lines of the story comes the word Nepthene. Nepenthe is known to be a mythical drug that can take away memories or in this case his grief and pain (Shmoop Editorial Team). The nepenthe would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When adjusted for inflation, the highest federal minimum wage was in 1968, when it was the equivalent of $10.38 in today s dollars (CNN Money). • 7. Research Paper On Aspartame There has been many debates on whether aspartame is good for us or not. In the 1960s James Schlatter, a chemist working for the G.D Searle company, was working on creating a cure for stomach ulcers and accidently tasted it off of his fingers (Evangelista, n.d.). Little did he know that his cure would become a popular artificial sweetner in America. The chemical additive consists of, phenylalaine and aspartic acid, two amino acids, as well as methanol (Wells, 2011). Aspartame is popular for people who want to lose or maintain a healthy weight. Since it is 200 times more sweet than actual sugara lot less calories are needed in order to have the same sweet taste (International FoodInformation Council Foundation, 2011). Aspartame is found... After it was studied three times by independant scientists, it was determined to have a high chance of inducing brain tumors (Evangelista, n.d.). 74 out of 166 investigations regarding aspartame are sponsored by aspartame industries. All of the 74 studies claimed aspartame was safe and most of the ones who weren t supported financially mentioned issues with the safety of this additive (Zimmer Chiropractic, 2016). It shows how although many organizations support the chemical additive and many researches have been conducted and support aspartame, we should also consider analysises which prove aspartame is not safe. Aspartame is a type of excitotoxine, which excites the brain cells so much they quickly die. This chemical plays a major role in degenerative nervous system diseases such as Parkinson s and alzeihmer s (Lant, 2015). An experiment has also been conducted on seven infant monkeys. They injested milk and aspartame only. After 300 days, one of the seven monkeys died, five of the same seven monkeys had grad mal seizures. The results of this experiment were hidden from the FDA when G.D Searle submitted the inital applications (Evangelista, n.d.). Many medical effects have been known to be caused by aspartame such as; dizziness, seizures, headaches, certain cancers and birth defects (The Healthline Editorial Team, 2015). Eleanor, a character in the book Eleanor and Park , is a great example of what some teens are going through today. But eventually Park unwillingly lets her sit down next to him. Eleanor couldn t tell if the Asian kid who finally let her sit down was one of them, or whether he was just really stupid (Rowell11). Eleanor is confused as to why Park let her sit down. She wonders if he is one of the bullies based on how he yelled and sweared at her to sit down. Or, if he is just really dumb. This shows that Eleanor grows as a result of conflicts with Park because she develops a feeling for Park. • 12. The Importance Of The Evolution Of Sexual Selection As a result of sexual selection, many male animals have evolved extraordinary structures, usually used as ornaments for attracting females, or weapons, for fighting mating rivals (Douhard et al., 2017; O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; McCullough and Emlen, 2013; Emlen, 2008). The diversity of these structures is usually extremely high (both intra and interspecifically) and have existed in many animal groups, including extinct trilobites and dinosaurs, to beetles, birds and hoofed mammals (ungulates) found today (O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; Emlen, 2008; Emlen et al., 2005; Emlen, 2001). This bias is likely influenced by the appearance of horns in many female bovid species as well as caribou, the only female cervid to evolve antlers, possibly as anti predator defences, a result of natural selection (McCullough et al., 2016; Stankowich and Caro, 2009; Emlen, 2008; Bro JГёrgensen, 2007). Although investigating beetles, McCullough et al. (2014) determined weapon morphology to be more effective against species typical fighting, with sexual selection through male male competition enhancing horn diversity. Only relatively more recently, have effects of male male competition, within ungulates, to the diversity of horn morphologies received increased attention, despite such studies being present within the field for over 50 years (McCullough et al., 2016; Bro JГёrgensen, 2007; Caro et al., 2003). The evolution of horns within artiodactyls is thought to have arisen independently at least three times, with a change in habitat from closed to open woodland and at a crucial body weight of around 15 18kg, which is thought to influence territorial defence by males (Janis, 1982). As a result, many investigations on horn morphology diversity among male bovids and cervids has been completed to environmental factors, scaling relationships of body mass and social variables that may ... Jainism earliest descriptions were thought of being a self centered search for personal salvation without having a personal God. Jains do not believe in one creator or God. Heinrich Zimmer, an expert on Indian Philosophy, states, ?Jainism is Tran theistic it does not deny existence of God but that it goes beyond them.? Jainism is founded on the goal of overcoming the temporary cycle of earthly life in addition to be released from an endless cycle of existence. Human destiny was the center of Jain teaching. They were to rely on themselves to seek that which will save them from the domination of matter, this being moral elevation. Above all, Jainism is a religion of love and compassion, with an eternal universe. They have made significant contributions in logic, art, and architecture, grammar, mathematics, literature, philosophy, astronomy, and astrology. Like in many other projects, the basic concerns in the power transformer project are schedule and costs, while continuously ensuring that the product meets required specifications and performance any deviation to what is planned constitutes a risk. In practice however, things do not always go according to plan and therefore risk management is needed to ensure that chaos does not prevail. The point that Kippenberger (2000) is making in his article titled there s no such thing as risk free project is that almost everything we do in a project involves a risk of some kind by so saying, it is therefore essential that we are prepared or able to deal with risks. Most literature puts emphasis on the negative connotation that the word risk carries. For instance, Chapman and Ward (2003) provide the meaning of risk as: hazard, chance of bad consequences, loss, and exposure to chance of injury or loss. Galway (2004) defines risk as an event which is uncertain and has negative impact, and similarly, Martin (2008: 38) defines risk as the chance of something occurring that has an adverse effect on the project . This negativity highlights the fact that problems can occur or things can go wrong and it is therefore important to have a systematic approach to managing them. Therefore in project management, risk management is necessary to increase the chances of the proposed project succeeding. 3.THE PROCESS OF MANAGING PROJECT RISKS The process of managing ... Analysis of the Article The Flip Side of Internet Fame CONTEMPORARY COMMUNICATIONS THE NARCISSISM CONNECTION Introduction In her 2008 article, The Flip Side of Internet Fame, Jessica Bennett explores some of the problems created by the nature of the Internet in connection with the consequences of publicly released information in the digital age. She details the account of a teenager whose life was affected very adversely by someone else s choice to post an embarrassing video of him without his permission. She also outlines some of the problems attributable to the fact that information posted online is not subject to any filter for accuracy, fairness, or appropriateness. Public posting forums allow the publication of defamatory statements about others with much fewer protections afforded by laws applicable to other types of injurious and untrue communications about others. The issues raised by Bennett illustrate that the Internet is still in its infancy in terms of how it is best integrated into society and regulated by the same ethical, social, and legal principles as traditional forms of communications. It is likely that the solution lies, not in the evolution of regulations or in limitations on free speech; rather, the solution is likely to evolve naturally as subsequent generations develop a better and more nearly comprehensive understanding of how to integrate their offline and online identities in ways that maintain their privacy. Most would argue that since it is not intended to be a governmental aid in ensuring and creating opportunities for equality, we are unable to expect such efforts to be made within this industry. Advertisers have the job of selling, to persuade and increase consumption as to satisfy the capitalist s pockets. The play on social injustice often associated with this particular industry makes it relevant to question it though. Male dominance in this area is evident, but are we not even to view men and women as equal in terms of being potential consumers? As illustrated by Spurlock and this piece of research, it is extremely difficult to not involve advertisement in vocabulary and certain approaches to societal understanding. The present branding culture is apparent and it is close to impossible to not have an opinion regarding this matter, which incidentally causes discussion and debate, which in turn furthers the word of mouth usage of brands. A seal hunting schooner is ruled by a evil man named Wolf Larsen who rules like a sovereign nation. Throughout the book, the protagonists experience much death at the hand of Wolf Larsen. He acts like an animal because he acts on his survival instincts and only cares about survival. The crew on the ships has to become savage to survive. This is the story of Humphrey Van Weyden who had to learn this the hard way and use all his survival instinct to overcome the adversity he faced. Even though he is the main character, we are showed the vile presence of Wolf Larsen throughout the book. We see how brutal and merciless he treats his crew and how he has no respect for humanlife. He represents the word evil in every way throughout the book. This is why I believe Wolf Larsen is a evil person on the outside and at heart. Since the beginning of the book, we can see how Wolf Larsen acts. We are introduced to him as a puzzling character who seems like a touch and reckless person. When Van Weyden says that working the schooner is easy work, Wolf mocks him and says, Strain! Simple as A,B,C! Mathematical certainty! (London 1). The Importance Of Beat Literature And Culture B00714952 Beat Literature and Culture ENG317 The penchant for innovation and experimentation, so apparent from lifestyle to literacy form, was born of a desire to reinvigorate and indeed revolutionize American culture. How accurate is this assessment of Beat literature and culture? The beats became a popular literary movement in the 1950s and 1960s when writers who shared a distaste of American virtues of progress and power began experimenting with their writing styles trying to revolutionize American culture. The Beat movement appeared in three major locations, San Francisco s North Beach, Los Angeles Venice West and New York City s Greenwich Village. Jack Kerouac one of the most documented about Beat writers is credited with defining the term Beat Generation. In an interview Kerouac described the word beatific as down and out, characters of a special spirituality who didn t gang up but were solitary Bartlebles staring out the dead wall windows of our civilisation. Beat writers expressed their opposition from conventional society through their works by using themes like drugs and sex and at a time after World War II people wanted normalcy however at the time materialism and conformist careers were at the forefront. As well as this at that time college students began to question the actions of the American society which the beats took advantage of. Punk has been present in music since the 1960s, where it was starting to form in the garages of starting out musicians that did not have any regulations to follow, simply because of the fact they didn t know the rules of music. Most of this early punk music was unadulterated and often political, showing the thoughts and feelings of the writer (Cooper). Combining elements of punk and mainstream music styles established a new genre of music, commonly known today as pop punk(B.). The disease got its name because of the characteristic sound that is made when affected individuals attempt to inhale; the whoop originates from the inflammation and swelling of the voice box that vibrates when too much air comes in when one breathes after coughing. The reason Solomon Northup wrote this book was to bring the treatment of slaves to the frontline. He wanted to express the reality of slaveryand what it was like to be a slave. He strived to teach people that were blinded from slavery within the North of how slave was in the South. The nature of integer spin obeying Bose Einstein statics makes plural spins confine in an ultrasmall temporalspace with the same quantum state, meanwhile, half integer spinlike electron denies to share the same quantum state in a molecular space, well known as Pauli exclusion principle. Intense CP photonacts as an energy source that preferentially generate optically active substance from prochiral substances and/or to preferentially decompose one enantiomer from racemic mixtures. On the other hand, weak CP photon is used as a probe to detect substance chirality in the ground and photoexcited states, known as circular dichroism(CD), optical rotation dispersion (ORD) and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) spectroscopy.1 Knowledge and understanding an efficient generation and reversibility of optically active substances from achiral precursors in the absence of chiral chemical influence has long been a challenging subject among chemists and scientists. This approach called absolute asymmetric synthesis (AAS) is beneficial to avoid multiple step synthesis that often require designed catalysts and specific chiral chemical sources with high ee.2 So far, several AASs have been employed, including spontaneous symmetry breaking crystallization, vortex stirring,3f 3h ... • 58. The Savegre Biosphere Is A Diverse Environment The Savegre Biosphere is a diverse environment located in Costa Rica. Among the 59% of birds flying through the area, the bird that is mostly known by tourists and residents is the Quetzal. The Quetzal is known as the specialized fruit eating bird. Quetzals are small and loud but fascinate many with their brightly colored feathers and body (WWF). As a defense mechanism, the Quetzal will use its green body to blend into the green forest background. Quetzal s are omnivores. Their daily diet is typically fruits and drinking water from bromeliads, but occasionally feast on insects, lizards and frogs (WWF). Preferring to live high up in the trees, they nest themselves right in the fruittrees they eat from. The fruits that Quetzals eat are from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 59. Igor Stravinsky, a Russian Composer Igor Stravinsky is known as one of the most important and influential composers of the twentieth century. Igor was born in Lomonosow, Russia on June 17, 1882 to Anna Kholodovsky and Fyodor Stravinsky. When Stravinsky was only three he witnessed a musician at a Russian fair singing, clicking his tongue, and making armpit noises. Igor was so excited to go try it at home. This was one of Stravinsky s first memory of music. Igor s childhood was not a good memory for him. He felt hated and neglected. Igor recalled that his schooldays no one had real attraction for him and he was always lonely. The only thing that got him through it was music and his piano lessons. In 1890, Igor heard his first orchestral performance The Sleeping Beauty. He was awestruck at the grace of the piece. That performance fueled his interest in music even more. When he was fifteen, he had mastered Mendelssohn s Piano Concerto in G minor. Stravinsky also finished a piano reduction of a string quartet by Glazunov, who allegedly thought that Igor was unmusical and considered him to have poor skills. His parents saw how much he loved music but didn t want him to pursue it as a job. They enrolled him in the University of Saint Petersburg in 1901. Stravinsky was told to become a lawyer. Vladimir Rimsky Korsakov, son of composer Nikolai Rimsky Korakove, was a fellow student at Saint Petersburg. Igor s father died in 1902. His death was a major cause for Stravinsky to become more ...
