SYNOPSIS
‘Flag Chase’ is a dystopian thriller/mystery,
which tells the story of five teenagers, who as
part of their school’s seniors tradition, embark
on a quest to retrieve 5 flags from the woods.
Guided by a series of riddles as clues, they
have 10 hours to succeed or be cast as
outsiders for the remainder of their life.
However, things are not as simple as they
seem, can the five of them manage to work
together and over come the twist and turns or
will they all fall victim to the evil lurking behind
them?
INSPIRATION
GENRE
We decided on a creating a thriller because it
is a challenge to create a genre film and our
group wanted to push ourselves to try
something new and risky. In thrillers, there is
tension, suspense and scares but they come
from real-world understandable reasons taken
to extremes.
We also chose the thriller genre as it will
introduce us to some unique iconography to
help make our sequence more appealing as it
is important to keep the audience captivated
during the opening.
LOCATION/SETTING
For our location we have decided to film in
Alexandra’s Park. In the evening, a light fog covers
the trees creating a spooky and mysterious view.
This will help make the audience feel tense and
uncomfortable as they sympathise with the
characters for being lost with no way out of the
darkness.
The park is large enough for us to film freely and it
is a public location which means we have access
to film there. We will be filming at a time where it is
not crowded to avoid upsetting people if they
appear in the frame. (No need consent.)
CONVENTIONS
REASON FOROURFILM
We decided to explore the idea of human
nature and the determination to thrive in
society. We decided to look at teenager in high
school where being popular is seen as most
important. We will be using characters from
different cliques to analyse the relationship
between them and expose if their behaviours
and attitudes are a dominant feature in them or
is it just a person conforming within society.
PROPOSAL
U.S.P: Our universal selling point is that it is a
relatable thriller, this would appeal to a wider
range of people, especially young adults
because it has the aspect of life that everyone
goes through in secondary school, this is the
desire to belong and having a form of respect
from their peers.
