The majority of the most well-known and
‘must see’ films are dramas. The key part of
them are their dramatic storyline that
features themes that trigger the audience
to feel specific emotions that therefore help
them connect with the story and
empathise with the characters.
They key theme that I will explore in my film
is isolation. This being a common issue in
drama films that can be presented in
different ways and is usually resolved.
The film will be set in and around the college and
will feature students with the majority of characters
being around the age of 16-20. Therefore, the
target audience will be also be around that age
and younger as aimed at teenagers going into
some form of education including high school. It
won’t be targeted at any specific gender as being
a (college) student involves both genders and
there is no specific gender orientated themes in
the movie.
The film will be released around summer, before school
starts.
This is to make the audience, particularly the target
audience of teenagers, aware of a real life issue that
people they know, or even themselves, could be
experiencing just before entering back into a new school
year.
It could even be something that someone in the audience
could potentially experience themselves in their
upcoming school year so would be able to help them
prepare and be aware.
The movie will be based around one person – gender not
specific, although likely male – and will be around their
struggle with the social side of college. The theme being
isolation, the character will experience this and will be
alone and will struggle to cope with the idea of ‘not existing’
to their peers. The story will hit it’s peak when the main
character finds a friend who then, as the story progresses,
helps cure their loneliness and opens up a whole new
world of happiness, adventure and friendship.
The film will mainly be set in and around the college as the film
itself is based on an individuals hardship in college.
This may include such settings as
• The dinner hall
• A classroom
• The library
It will also feature scenes in large open areas such as The Walks
to present the idea of being alone as a mere individual will look
inferior to the large, open, empty space around them.
Other settings may include around a house such as a living room
for scenes including parents or a bedroom when the characters
is reading their monologue.
