A group of college students seek shelter in their abandoned college after staying out late when their term ends, but find themselves trapped inside with an unknown creature. Summary:
Half term is anything but boring when a group of college students remain trapped in their
abandoned college after seeking safety.
‘Misfits’ meets ‘Skins’ and hints of ‘The Inbetweeners’. Lockdown features on a group of
friends who find themselves running for their lives away from an unknown being, after
staying out late the night term ends. Finding shelter in their deserted college, they soon
realise they have been locked in and they are trapped-not knowing whether the creature is
inside! The 10 episode series will focus on the group’s assorted efforts to escape over the
weeks they are trapped, while exploring the ever-evolving relationships of the group as they
aim to stay safe and survive each other’s company.
Audience:
Lockdown is aimed towards working/middle class students and young adults aged 15-35
who enjoy watching thrilling and action-packed fiction. Appealing to both genders, the
show is relatable in terms of the location, themes, and relationships between
characters, therefore the audience will find the narrative entertaining and relevant to their
own lifestyles.
Lockdown will appeal to a student (e.g. aged 15-22) due to the fact that the characters are a
similar age to them, while the older audience (23-35) will also appreciate their prior
experience of the student lifestyle as well as the engaging storylines and action scenes.

3. Style:
Our survey results- which we conducted on the target audience- found that the genres they find
most engaging are: thriller, drama, and comedy. Taking into account these
preferences, Lockdown will incorporate elements of each to create an entertaining and
exhilarating show. The overall tone will be one of intensity and suspense (referring to the drama
genre), while including heart racing action scenes (thriller) and comical qualities, such as the
use of one amusing character who brings opportunities for humorous situations. This merging of
genres means that Lockdown will have a perfect balance of intensity and joviality/light-
heartedness which the audience value, as we discovered in our focus group.
Feasibility:
Lockdown will largely appeal to the target audience through the channel: E4 which specialises in
‘cutting edge’, exciting new programmes where the target audience is the same as ours, such as
Misfits and The Inbetweeners. Our programme would undoubtedly fit in very well with the
existing shows of E4, as it would complement those which offer insight into the modern
student’s lifestyle (a theme proven popular in our product research).
Although similar, Lockdown is particularly unique in the way that it has a one-of-a-kind
combination of action/comedy and is suitable for pre-watershed broadcasting, meaning there is
no intrusion of unnecessary violence, gore, or explicit behaviour featured in this
programme, which can sometimes hinder the quality of narrative/characters in existing shows.
Similarly to the existing programmes broadcasted on E4, the budget for Lockdown is
modest, due to the benefit of limited locations, and the fact that the vast use of CGI and special
effects are unnecessary. The resources and locations which we are easily exposed to mean that
the filming process will be particularly unproblematic and result in a fluid production. The pre-
production work should be finished by 30th November 2012, allowing for the final production
piece to be completed by 25th January 2013.

Character profiles:
Becky: 17 year old female protagonist. She is strong minded, ambitious, and naturally takes a
leadership role within the group. The males in the group find her very attractive, and she is often
the subject of their attention, which she is quick to dismiss modestly.
Hannah: 18 years old, best friends with Becky, and presents a harmonising contrast in dominance.
She is friendly, light-hearted and a loyal friend. Hannah is not shy, but has the tendency to get
overshadowed by her friend.
Ross: 17 years old, not familiar with the group at first but becomes involved with them and get to
know them. He quite a timid, geeky character, and is unintentionally funny because of his
awkwardness around others.
Dan: 18 year old protagonist. Similarly to Becky, he is likely to take a leadership role, and as the
oldest male, he is idolised by the other characters-not only because of his dominance-but also for
his good looks and popularity with the female characters.
JJ: 17 years old, acts as a sidekick to Dan. He is cheeky, and optimistic, and is forever trying to
‘charm’ the girls, but inevitably gets declined each time. JJ brings a comedic element to the show
because of his light hearted humour and his ‘joker’ attitude.
