Static code analysis tools like Larastan and PHP-CS-Fixer were introduced to make code reviews more efficient by standardizing code formatting and catching errors. They help avoid trivial code formatting differences between pull requests that waste review time. Now reviewers can focus on architecture, algorithms and naming instead of minor whitespace and quote style fixes. These tools have reduced the number of file conflicts per pull request from over 10 to just important conflicts, allowing for more effective code reviews.

Docker Amsterdam Summer meetup, August 2014: using Docker at Cloud9 IDE
This talk showcases how we use Docker at c9.io, and highlights some of the challenged we faced in adopting docker for our use case.
By using a comprehensive feature-filled framework we can build software fast. On the other hand, by decoupling our applications we can build sofware that is independent of our framework and infrastructure choices, and therefore longer lasting.
We can't do both, is one approach always right?
In this talk we'll look at different decoupling techniques, what problems they solve, and when they make sense. We will learn some concrete techniques to discover where we should be investing in decoupling, and when we should let the framework maintainers do the work for us.

GCC Compiler as a Performance Testing tool for C programsDaniel Ilunga
This paper introduces you to GCC Compiler as a Performance testing tool. GCC Compiler has never been used before as a Performance Testing, but in this paper we’ll be discussing various points on how this can be implemented based on the objective of a Performance testing.
In performance testing, we don’t focus on the bugs in the code that we are testing, but its purpose being of removing the bottlenecks in the codes by taking under consideration parameters like CPU time, memory usage, Speed, Stability, scalability and so on.
To achieve this, we have used the GCC optimization options; different levels of optimization are also discussed as well as a comparative study between manual testing and automatic testing (by using Unix/Linux commands).
Gain a deeper understanding of how to debug and profile your content running with IL2CPP. In depth examples demonstrate how to diagnose problems and improve performance.
Scaleable PHP Applications in KubernetesRobert Lemke
Kubernetes is also called the "distributed Linux of the cloud" – which implies that it provides fundamental infrastructure, which can solve a lot of challenges. Let’s see how PHP applications fit into this picture. In this presentation, we are going to explore when Kubernetes is a good fit for operating your PHP application and how it can be done in practice. We’ll look at the whole lifecycle: how to build your application, create or choose the right Docker images, deploy and scale, and how to deal with performance and monitoring. At the end you will have a good understanding about all the different stages and building blocks for running a PHP application with Kubernetes in production.

The inability to iterate quickly is one of the biggest killers of productivity. This talk is aimed at anyone interested in improving the last of these points - it will provide insights into why compilation (and linking) take so long for C++ and will then provide an exhaustive list of techniques and tools to mitigate the problem, such as: - tooling and infrastructure - hardware, build systems, caching, distributed builds, diagnostics of bottlenecks, code hygiene - techniques - unity builds, precompiled headers, linking (static vs shared libraries) - source code modification - the PIMPL idiom, better template use, annotations - modules - what they are, when they are coming to C++ and what becomes obsolete because of them

PHP owes its appeal and popularity to its low barriers to entry. Anyone with access to a basic LAMP stack can get started in just a few hours, but if you want to write a production-level application, you need the right tools. The PHP community today relies heavily on Composer and PHPUnit as tools and PSRs as the common dialect. npm is the unavoidable front-end counterpart to Composer. Git, though not specific to PHP, is critical to developing a maintainable project. This talk will guide you through these topics so you have a basic understanding of the modern PHP developer’s toolbox.
OSDC 2017 - Casey Callendrello -The evolution of the Container Network InterfaceNETWAYS
The Container Network Interface (CNI) is a simple specification for connecting containers to an arbitrary network. It promises interoperability between diverse networking technologies and container orchestration engines. Since its release two years ago, the CNI standard has grown in adoption. It is now a cross-industry effort, with contributors from CoreOS, RedHat, Google, Microsoft, and WeaveWorks, for example. CNI is used by the Kubernetes, CloudFoundry, and Mesos container orchestration engines. After a brief overview of the project, this talk will cover recent and coming developments in the CNI. As a specification, the CNI must balance the desire for new features with that of stability. I’ll cover the implications of that need for balance, design considerations, changes in the CNI spec, and the new use cases made possible.

GDB - a tough nut to crack: only a few bugs found by PVS-StudioPVS-Studio
GDB is a tool that is hard to live without. Of course, as Brooks says: "The quality in software development is achieved through proper design, not by endless testing". However, proper design doesn't protect from logical errors, typos, null pointers, and so on. That's why various debugging tools, like GDB, come to help. My aim is to show that static code analyzers are also very useful tools which help to detect errors at the early stages of development. It's much better if the bug is fixed in the code before the testing and debugging stage. To demonstrate the benefits of static code analysis, let's delve inside GDB and look for errors, using PVS-Studio.
Advanced Eclipse Workshop (held at IPC2010 -spring edition-)Bastian Feder
Hyperion EPM APIs - Added value from HFM, Workspace, FDM, Smartview, and Shar...Charles Beyer
Application Programming Interfaces allow developers to leverage existing program code in an effort to build additional functionality, automate processes or present existing functionality in a different format. APIs exist for many of Hyperion products; however, clear examples of how to use them are not always easy to find nor are applications for the API readily available. Proper application of the APIs for HFM, Workspace, FDM, Smartview and Shared Services can simplify the daily routines of end users and administrators.
This session will provide a high level overview of how each of the APIs work. Additionally, real-world examples for each API will be provided. Fully working code will be available for download from the ODTUG 12 site which attendees can use in their own environments.
Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.
