2. SENSE ORGANS
Our sense organs allow us
to interact with the world
around us.
They detect information
which is transmitted to the
brain.
The information is
deciphered and the brain
reacts to the stimulus.
3. FIVE SENSES
There are five senses:
• Sight: Our eyes are the organs of sight.
• Hearing: Our ears are the organs of hearing.
• Smell: Our nose is the organ of smell.
• Touch: Our skin is the organ of touch.
• Taste: Our tongue is the organ of taste.
4. SIGHT
• We can see different sizes,
shapes and colours.
• Our are eyes are protected by
the eyebrows, the eyelashes
and the eyelids.
• The brain reads the signals
from our eyes and tell us
what we can see.
5. PROCESS OF SIGHT
1. Light enters through the pupil and
cornea.
2. The iris controls the amount of light
that enters the eyes and gives colour
too.
3. The lenses focuses the image.
4. The retina is covered by receptors
that send information to the optical
nerve.
5. The optical nerve sends information
to the brain.
6. HEARING
We can hear loud and
quiet sounds.
Our ears have three parts:
the outer ear, the middle
ear and the inner ear.
The brain read the signals
from our ears and tell us
what we can hear.
7. PROCESS OF HEARING
1. Sound waves enter the ear canal.
2. The eardrum vibrates.
3. The vibrations go to the small bones.
4. The vibrations reach the cochlea and become electrical
signals.
5. The auditory nerve sends the signals to the brain.
8. SMELL AND PROCESS OF
SMELL
We can smell different odours.
The process of smell is:
1. The air enters the nose and goes to the nostrils.
2. The nostrils are covered with receptors that send
information to the olfatory nerve.
3. The olfatory nerve sends the information to the
brain.
9. TASTE AND PROCESS OF
TASTE
1. The tongue is covered by taste
buds.
2. The taste buds are connected to
receptors.
3. The receptors are connected to
nerves and these nerves send
information to the brain.
4. The brain identify four tastes:
salty,sweet, bitter and sour.
10. TOUCH AND PROCESS OF
TOUCH
Our skin tell us if something
feels soft or hard, hot or cold,
rough or smooth.
The process of touch is:
1. The skin has an internal layer
called dermis are covered by
receptors.
2. The dermis has receptors and
nerves that feel what we touch.
3. The nerves and receptors send
the information to the brain.
