Pallavi started on time, had the safety glasses drawer out, and his prelab written on the board in advance.

General Comments:
Pallavi gave a very interactive prelab presentation. She asked her students to gather closer to make sure
they could hear her and her writing on the board was very clearly visible. Her diagrams were very nice. She
might want to write the signs of exothermic and endothermic as they are being covered during the prelab
lecture, so that students can refer back to them. Speaking about the food industry and the concern for
calories is a good lead-in for why students should be concerned about enthalpy.

time with only one group/student, exhibits an odd pattern of
circulating around the room when talking, e.g., only circles
around one or two tables, paces uncomfortably while talking

General Comments:
Pallavi promptly addressed safety concerns regarding lack of safety glasses and a backpack left out for
spilling upon. It did seem her students were having trouble setting up the MicroLab and could do with a bit
more instruction from her. It’s difficult to do this during prelab for all students, and all students don’t need it,
so perhaps announcing that she will be willing to help students who are struggling with MicroLab and
circulating the room looking for set-up issues would help address the issue. I think a student might also
have been confused by her explanation of enthalpy. It might help to keep a paper copy of the prelab slides
and use those to point to when questions occur, just in case students struggle with her accent. Of course,
please add on to the prelab slides as they are not all-inclusive.
