Section 6. Comments
What was the most positive aspect of the way in which this instructor taught this
course?
Comment
He did a good job making sure everyone's questions were answered
He went through many example to p is understand the material
He was very organized and well prepared.
Daniel is extremely organized and presents things in such a clear and straight forward manner. He makes sure
everyone feels comfortable and warns of things that may be confusing. He gives lots of examples and will answer any
questions.
he explained the concepts clearly and was always available for extra help
Easy to understand
Offered lots of examples
Did good example problems
He did a lot of practice problems in class which helped me understand the material. He sometimes went ahead of the
professor as well, which helped me understand the material during lecture.
Daniel alsways went over material throughly and really helped me learn the topics.
He used the full class time to go over lots of practice problems.
he had avery good teaching style and was very approachable when a student needed help.
he covered material enough and helped with the more difficult topics
He simplified the conten.
He definitely showed interest in the subject and wanted to help everybody learn the subject
What can this instructor do to improve teaching effectiveness in the classroom?
Comment
Not much, just continue going over the material taught in class and showing us examples that might help when it
comes to homework or an exam
He always seemed very nervous and uncomfortable infront of the class. He got better as the semester went on, but
never seemed comfortable.
I think just watch more for little mistakes. I mean everyone makes mistakes but perhaps after writing something on the
board double check it so people don't get confused.
he can make sure everyone knows what he is talking about
Nothing
Know what he was going to do as there are a lot of pauses. Also ask for questions more.
When coming up with examples, he seemed almost at a loss at some points, but would always recover quickly and
explain the problems thoroughly. It's hard to be prepared for every question, but Daniel did a very good job answering
these questions.
nothing hes a very good ta
I think he did a good job providing us with extra practice and understanding of the concepts.
maybe be a little more prepared for class
covering a little bit more in the time given
Be confiden.
Occasionally made noticeable mistakes on the board without realizing it, confusing students and later correcting them,
but other than that, was an effective TA

Please write any comments you have about the course or course materials.
Comment
None
The course went very well. It was always clear what the expectations were and it moved at a fair reasonable pace.
The course was great. I really feel I've gained such a strong foundation in Calc 1 and because the material was
presented to clearly and thoroughly. The book really made no difference so I would not suggest getting it. The web
assign videos and interactive help were extremely helpful.
he was available for extra help and was good at explaining the concepts
Text not necessary
The course was straightforward but sometimes taught too complicated. More than it should be. Quizzes were
confusingly worded and seemed like it was meant to trick you when the test was the complete opposite.
Textbook was pointless
textbook wasn't helpful at all, but i learned a lot through webassign
For courses with laboratory and/or discussion sections: were the
laboratory/discussion sections helpful to your learning?
Comment
Discussion was more helpful than lecture for me. It was where I understood the material better
The Lab was good to reinforce the learning.
The discussion was extremely helpful to my learning. Everything we did in lecture was reviewed in discussion. It really
helped to have someone else go over it in a different way and it helped to see material more than once to remember it. I
was also able to ask questions more and I really feel that discussion let me go deeper into understanding the basic
concepts presented in lecture.
yes this was a discussion section and it was very helpful
Discussion clarified a lot of things
Not much, sometimes made things more confusing.
The discussion sections were very useful.
The discussion courses were very helpful
yes they were i felt the TA explained things better than the proffesro
Yes
helpful enough but kind of repetitive to lecture

If your friend needed/wanted to take Calculus 1, would you recommend that he/she
takes Daniel Bloch's section? What would you say to him/her?
Comment
Yes I would. I would say he's very helpful clearing up subjects that might seem unclear.
Yes I would tell them to take it with Daniel if possible. He was very helpful in understand the material learned in class.
I would not, simply because of Daniel's lack of comfort speaking to the class. Although it was understandable, I would
have preferred him to be better at presenting to a crowd.
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Daniel Bloch! Daniel Bloch is the shining star of all the TA's I had this semester. He is
always willing to find time to help you or stay after his normal office hours. He was always so patient and so kind. He
always responds to any email you send with a question. I don't think I would have done as well in this class if it weren't
for his help. He is very knowledgeable and a great TA.
yes i would recommend Daniel because he always gives extra help and is good at teaching and explaining the
concepts
Yes. I would talk about Daniel's patience and willingness to help students learn.
No, take it with some who knows how the explain the material better.
Yes I would. Daniel is a very helpful TA with an interest in the subject, as well as making sure the students know what
they're doing, and explaining what they're getting into with upcoming sections and chapters.
daniel is by far the best TA he always went above and beyond what he needed to do and really cared about us learning
calculus. I would recommend him highly to a friend.
I would recommend they take Daniel Bloch's section because he's very happy to help a student who's struggling, and
goes over lots of different kinds of problems in class so that students get a really good grasp on the concepts.
