This document discusses some of the struggles that Vietnamese students may face in their first year of college in the US according to admissions officers. These include difficulties with the level of reading and writing required, classroom participation, public speaking and working on teams, plagiarism and its consequences, cold weather, differences in social interaction, and lack of cultural knowledge about the US. Admissions officers note that the first semester can be particularly difficult for non-native English speakers.
