Evaluation Question 7 –
Looking back at your preliminary task (Filming a
conversation), what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the main task?
Research and Planning
My Prelim tasked me with shooting a character walk
through a door and initiate a conversation with
    another character.
• Whilst producing my prelim I was arrogant of the
connotations shown through my work via my
choice of location, actors, costume etc, therefore
resulting in my prelim feeling very bland and
    without thought.
• The main focus of my prelim was to ensure I used
the correct shot position to create a match on
action which would further better my film making
    skills.
• This along with the process of ‘stitching’ it
together through Final Cut gave me a brief insight
into what it’d be like when I came to make my
    final product.
• So even though I feel that not a lot of thought was
put into my prelim, I strongly believe it gave me
the correct skills I needed in order to properly
create & produce my final product.
Research and Planning
• Through my initial research I deconstructed
The Sixth Sense film opening to create a
better understanding of what goes into an
opening and how I could recreate this
    professionalism within my own work.
• I also did research over the companies
behind the making of said films, as well as
some others. This was done in order to
help me create almost like a portfolio for
my product, deciding who I'd like to
produce it, why they’d like my product and
    much more.

An example of one of
My own logos 
Research and Planning
• I then went onto researching logo’s in hope of
finding inspiration for when I came to create my
own, whilst detailing the do’s and don'ts of
    professional logo’s .
• Another segment of my research went into
    researching stereotypes on the website
http://uktribes.com/ - this was primarily to
help create an idea of how I wanted my
protagonist to be perceived by the audience.
• I later learned the importance of things such
as mise en scene, costume, location etc
which helped me to plan what and how I
wanted my protagonist to seem as this is an
important element of film making, I had to
ensure my protagonist had a believable
identity and was also capable of being
empathised with to better the audiences
    relationship between my character and
    themselves.
Construction
In my final product the composition of shot s all
had meaning ( save a few) and all illustrated
some key point in the narrative, I utilized as
many camera shots as I could, from long shots
to close up ( and so on) I attempted to portray
the opening from as many different types of
shots as I could so that it felt as if it flowed
instead of using the same shot within each
scene. Most shot were handheld to make my
audience feel involved in the opening and
weren't merely watching what was going on
but experiencing it first hand, however, I
incorporated the use of a tripod to get the
steady shots I needed to have a variety of
shots in an attempt to bridge the gap between
    Professional and Armature.
Construction
Now if I was to compare the amount of thought
that went into creating my prelim to the
thought that went into creating my final
product there would be a big difference. With
my prelim being a very basic sequence I found
it quite hard to make it at all interesting, as I
said before, I was purely making this prelim to
ensure I could create match on action
correctly. However, after filming my final
product I became aware of many things I
could’ve done differently. Unfortunately as it
was my first taste of film making, the
sequence is very bland as I didn't have the
chance to use many different camera angles
therefore making the whole sequence feel
boring, However, when it came to the final
product I was given a lot more freedom to
create what I wanted, where I wanted.
Construction
When It came to sound my prelim didn't really
have any, as it was mostly diegetic and
captured the dialogue between both actors.
Where as in my final product I created a
sound track using Garage band which allowed
me to be creative and invent a soundtrack by
   stitching together sounds which was
extremely enjoyable. I used two distinctive
sounding track which I had created, the first
being an uplifting sound which seems to
contrast the strange goings on, on screen
which created a sense of mystery and the
second being a high score of violin music
which created a sort of crescendo, which
   concluded my product.
Construction
Location was another big aspect when it came to
creating my film as well as establishing the
narrative. The narrative of my product
followed a very linier path as it follows my
protagonist waking up, traversing a forest
path onwards towards a cemetery, therefore
this allowed me to use an array of different
locations which I believe made my product
feel on a whole, a lot bigger as were shown
many different locations which I believed
made the time of my film feel a bit longer.
This was a large step forward from my prelim
where it was all shot in one classroom which
may have resulted in it feeling to bland as it
did and I wasn't capable of experimenting
     with different locals.
