COURSE DESCRIPTION
• Employment English delineates functional content standards
necessary for achieving reading, writing, and language
competency in the workplace and in community life. Reading
focuses on decoding and comprehending essential information
for successful community inclusion. Writing emphasizes
comprehending and using written information to communicate
with others effectively; and language competencies focus on
receptive and expressive communication modes, and the
mechanics, grammar, and usage conventions of standard
English. The student is expected to acquire and master the
skills in whatever mode of communication is appropriate.

English for the World of Work; Basic English Composition; Practical English; English
Composition; Basic English; and any other materials deemed necessary for learning
METHOD OF EVALUATION
Daily Participation Points/Quizzes/Assignments/Homework/Binder Checks/Student
Portfolios, School/Community Service Hours (total of 20 hours) will later discuss
Please note students can only pass this course with a 70% average or above and as a
requirement for graduation must maintain an evidence-based portfolio
*Homework will be assigned on rare occasions of the assignment not being completed in
class

  • 3. COURSE DESCRIPTION • Employment English delineates functional content standards necessary for achieving reading, writing, and language competency in the workplace and in community life. Reading focuses on decoding and comprehending essential information for successful community inclusion. Writing emphasizes comprehending and using written information to communicate with others effectively; and language competencies focus on receptive and expressive communication modes, and the mechanics, grammar, and usage conventions of standard English. The student is expected to acquire and master the skills in whatever mode of communication is appropriate.

OBJECTIVES OF EMPLOYMENT ENGLISH • Main Ideas and Supporting Details • Following Directions • Learning Strategies • Purpose of Writing • Reading to Gain Information • Applying Communication Skills • Applying Listening Skills • Vocabulary • Demonstration of Standard English Mechanics and Grammar

METHOD OF EVALUATION Daily Participation Points/Quizzes/Assignments/Homework/Binder Checks/Student Portfolios, School/Community Service Hours (total of 20 hours) will later discuss Please note students can only pass this course with a 70% average or above and as a requirement for graduation must maintain an evidence-based portfolio *Homework will be assigned on rare occasions of the assignment not being completed in class
