This document provides information about a band called Feminist/Gender including the names and roles of the three band members: Phillip Bennett as the lead singer, Katie Heil as the back-up singer and drummer, and Dominick Miller as the bass guitarist. It then discusses the origins and goals of feminist literature criticism, identifying its emergence in 17th century Europe when women were not allowed to write literature, and how authors would include feminist themes and critique gender roles within their stories. The purpose of feminist criticism is stated as attaining gender equality and breaking down gender stereotypes and barriers.

Barnard Zine Library: Privileging Creators
Barnard Zine Library policies and procedures are intended to be responsive to and reflective of zine community ethos. Honoring a zine maker's request to remove her zine from one's collection can provoke ethical fisticuffs in a zine librarian/librarian zinester's heart. To whom is the feminist archivist of living authors' materials more responsible, the authors themselves or researchers from the future? And to distant researchers? If we want the voices represented in the Barnard Zine Library--default female, as often as not queer, often young, usually radical, women of color emphasized, etc.--to be part of the archival narrative of the late 20th/early 21st century is it a mistake to privilege the zines' creators wishes? As Kate Eichhorn posits in The Archival Turn in Feminism can "…item-level cataloging of marginal materials holds more potential for subversion than simply digitizing the same materials." even for remote users of our collection? This paper will explore how, influenced by our location in an institution peopled by faculty and scholars that integrate intersectional feminisms into their lives and work, it is ultimately reasonable to have a creator-centric philosophy inform our decision-making.

Women's Liberation in the 1970's
Women's Liberation is also known as "the feminist movement", or "feminism". Although much of the successes of feminism took place in the 20th century, it has roots in American history that go back to the late 18th century. Some of the main issues that feminism refers to are woman's suffrage (the right to vote), political leadership, reproductive rights, sexual discrimination based on employment, and sexual and domestic violence.
The feminist movement can be examined in three "waves", or distinct periods of time. The first wave of feminism occurred during the 19th century, and was focused upon the issue of unequal rights women had at that time. Women in the late 1800's and early 1900's were becoming more educated, and were determined to have the same rights as men. This period of women's liberation only related to white, wealthy women, as ethnic minority women, and women without financial means had no voice at all in society at that time.
Second Wave Feminism
Second wave feminism, which took place from the 1960's to the 1980's, was geared towards removing the gender equality gap through taking on cultural and social issues such as those mentioned above. As discussed in previous modules of this course, the idea of "containment" applies when discussing the second wave women's liberation movement that began to take shape during the early 1960's. In terms of popular music for young women in the 1960's, musicians such as Carole King were writing songs from the perspective of independently minded, and sexually liberated women. This went against the dominant culture's attempts to contain women, and helped to shift the cultural values and mores of American society.
Gloria Steinem
One seminal contributor to the feminist movement is
Gloria Steinem
. Since the early 1960's, she has been a driving force in pushing forward the prosperity of women in the United States, and internationally as well. She began her career as a journalist in the early 60's, and during that time also worked as an undercover journalist for

Barin 1 Race & Gender In the late 19th Century.docxjasoninnes20
Barin 1
Race & Gender
In the late 19th Century and the 20th Century, there were serious social issues and civil
rights concerns that revolved around racial and gender delimitations which led to the rise of a
number of abolitionist movements who either championed for racial equality, women’s rights,
or even both. Racism was the main theme of W.E.B. Du Bois’ works in which he was a strong
opponent of lynching, discriminatory policies, and Jim Crow laws which hindered African
American freedom, work and education. Du Bois recorded some of his protests on this topic
in his collection of essays titled “The Souls of Black Folk” in which he premises that the
“problem of the 20th Century is the problem of the color-line”. (Du Bois 1-2) The author’s
arguments were a major stepping stone for African Americans in their fight against the
inequalities of separate but equal doctrines in social and political life.
Just as Du Bois’ literature served as inspiration to the civil rights movements by the
African American community, Kate Chopin’s works were viewed as integral promoter for the
feminist cause and women’s rights in 20th Century America. Chopin’s work selected for this
assignment, “The Story of an Hour”, portrayed the realities plight of women’s freedom and
rights in American society. In her story, she uses imagery through the eyes of a married
couple which demonstrates the unlimited choices in the lives of women in America. She
dictated in her story “Free! Body and soul free! ...” (Chopin 10), words that challenged the
society’s predisposed notions of roles of women in the 19th and 20th Century. Whilst she did
not view herself as an activist for women’s rights, the society in general viewed her as a key
figure leading the women’s rights campaigns because of the impact and influence her works
had towards the movement.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
